Kristen Stewart and Anna Kendrick Featured in Controversial Vanity Fair Issue

Vanity Fair’s new cover features one of their regular pieces that they have been doing for a number of years: a piece on rising female talent in Young Hollywood. This year it has drawn fire because of it’s utter lack of diversity for the second year running.

No one is discounting the talent of the actresses involved in the cover or accusing them of anything inappropriate, but Hollywood insiders are wondering where other names are. Yahoo’s shine stated, “Every woman on its new cover is extremely thin and very, very white. Unless Vanity Fair considers one redhead to be diversity, we feel the need to cry foul.” EW has a pole asking which of the lot will be remembered in 10 years. Currently Anna and Kristen are doing very well in that pole.

So what do you think? Did vanity fair miss the mark? Will Anna and Kristen have substantial careers 10 years from now?

Congratulations to Anna. I’m sure she could never do it alone. I’m an actor and have been looking to be represented for over 2 years. I can’t even get a call- back from anyone. I wish I had a manager to believe in me. Here’s to CAA & Kim Matuka for believing in her.

I don’t think the people of the magazine were being racist but it would be a lie to say that hollywood doesn’t care about race, gender,or weight. I didn’t like the cover because it was boring and ive seen it before and also theres no white people on ebony or latina magazine because there specifically for those of nationalitys and vanity fair isnt.

I think it will vary from year to year. I don’t think they should feel pressured to feature non whites. That is also discriminatory. That being said, I’m not sure about some of their choices…white or not…. Abby Cornish? She doesn’t have a big American fan base because of her choice in relationships…. the one from mama mia? I don’t think so…. Kristen Stewart, I think she’s a good bet. They are all very very thin. But, they are also very young. A lot of 18 and 19 year olds are quite thin….. I don’t know where I stand on the issue…..

It’s just not a very good selection. Kristen can’t act her way out of a paper bag, but she gets on the cover because she’s pretty and her on the cover will appeal to the Twilight demographic. I don’t think anyone is being deliberately racist, just ignorant, and they think it would look pretty if a lot of attractive thin young girls were on the cover. The only two I think will be around in a few years will be Anna and Carey, as they are actually very good actors, and if you want to stay around you don’t just need looks and hype, people get bored of that, you’ll need to do some really good performances in interesting films.
