The Newborn Army Is On The Move

Filming of Eclipse continues in Vancouver. A recent scene, that those present surmise involves the newborn army because Xavier Samuel and Jodelle Ferland were present, was shot down at the waterfront. Various onlookers got to see quite the site by standing on public land on the opposite shore.  Mandy who ended up using the public rest room, got the shock of her life when she came out of the stall to find red-eyed extras waiting to use the facilities, now there’s something you don’t see everyday!

Vancity Allie, whose photo appears left, described the scene as:

“I had a chance to see a new set being filmed for Eclipse… the scene where the newborns arrive in Forks. It’s a picturesque scene, with mountains and water framing the background of the shot, and a sparse unoccupied beach for the newborns to arrive on… then they disappear into the forest. The vampire newborns looked absolutely chilling, and their rugged military-like outfits along with steely, determined glares just added to the mood. Filmed early in the morning, this scene was designed to look as if it had been shot at night, possibly just after dusk or just before dawn.”

Mandy also visited locations similar to Allie. Mandy says:

“The vampires would simply go underwater once the camera was rolling then one by one emerge out of the water and walk slowly, menacingly towards to the shore. I love the darker angle David Slade is taking to this movie. I can’t wait for Eclipse to come out… but I have to wait for New Moon first… which I can’t wait for either :)”

  1. I’m sure it will be a cool scene with the right music behind it with them rising out of the water but I just hope that David doesn’t put the things that happened at the beginning of the book second and just focus everything on the newborns.

  2. is it just me or does the new newborns coming out of the water seem more of a zombie thing? im just curious. it does seem cool but im still iffy on this idea.

  3. I agree Matty, maybe the newborns should have been scaling trees (since Forks is filled with them)at light-speed instead of the water thing. But its great we get to see things Bella didnt in the book!:)

  4. I’m starting to get a bit worried that all the focus in Eclipse will be on the newborns, hopefully we will get loads of Edward and Bella because at the end of the day they are what the stories are about!

  5. I agree with all of you the newborns are not the main focus in eclipse. But I’m sure david is going to do an amazing job.

Just as an FYI, the reason you don’t see more footage of the main cast is that those locations are not accessible to the general public.

So rest assured there is lots of E&B action, it’s just under wraps.

    • Thank you for being the voice of reason, it seems that every time these types of shot get out people get all agitated, LOL!!

  7. I never thought of Eclipse as a dark book, to me it was a relief after the intense pain of New Moon. I actually thought of the new born army as not military at all, but pretty wild and unruly, killing each other and not listening very well. The thought of military formation seems kinda opposite of book…did he read the book?

  8. Sounds interesting.. and weird. I guess they are going to show the newborn army approaching Forks and a water scene looks more dramatic than them running in a forest. I just hope David won’t do anything too over the top, this scene reminds me more of a zombie movie than a vampire one. But I’m probably worrying over nothing, I’m sure this will look great in the finalized film.

  9. i think that it’s an awesome idea to have them coming out of the water because victoria uses the water to escape from the wolves a few times. it would make sense that they would use it as a means of getting there unharmed.

    • Good point! Vampires have definitely used water to travel in the books. We don’t know exactly the route the newborns took to Forks, but we do know that Victoria has used the water to her advantage before. Edward also mentions that Carlisle went by water to get to France. Since they don’t need to breathe, it seems like a pretty good way for them to travel.

I’m not sure why people are saying that going into the water is a zombie thing… I guess maybe I haven’t watched enough zombie movies, lol! :D

  10. Can anyone elaborate on whether it makes geographic sense travelling from Seattle to Forks via water?

  11. I’m a very excited to see what David does with the newborn “army”. The books are from Bella’s point of view, the movies need to show the things that in the book Bella and everyone else could only speculate. He has full creative license to show the things beyond Bella’s POV because there is very little to go on in the books. As long as (which I’m sure is the case) he works with Stehpenie I’m sure it will be awesome. I’m a little confused by some of the comments that seem to say that the books/movies are ONLY about Bella and Edward. Maybe it’s just me, but it’s all the other things, the outside forces that shape and/or direct the course of their relationship. I don’t know…….

  12. I’m a little concerned about the scene looking too zombie-like as well. I don’t mind the “darker side” of things, I only hope at the end of the day that the movie is still a love story and not a horror flick (there are already too many of those).

  13. WOW! it looks eerie. If they had open Eclipse “newborn” casting I would totally audition!

  14. It’s a little weird to see Eclipse set pictures when I haven’t watched New Moon yet.

  15. Those newborns remind me of the vampires in 30 days of night. Super creepy.
