Hollywood.com Interviews Charlie Bewley

Charlie Bewley, who has done some seriously impressive homework prepping for a relatively minor role, shares the backstory he created for his character’s motivation:
“Do you actually know Demetri’s backstory, based on what’s in the book?
CB: I made it up.
Tell us!
CB: Demetri was obviously Italian. And at a young age, he was orphaned. He was living in the foothills of Mt. Vesuvius – the big, volcanic mountain – and in 900 A.D., it erupts. Lava starts pouring down, and his parents get caught in it. Their house gets taken apart. I outrun the lava, into the foothills, where I found a place where I was safe, essentially. But I couldn’t provide for myself, so I was thrown into slavery. I went through various masters but they couldn’t pin me down, because I was so nonchalant and arrogant and just ran away from everyone; it was really frustrating. I kept getting sold on to the next guy – the next master, for the best price they could get – and I was too nice for someone just to kill me….”

What a great imagination, Charlie should try his hand at writing too.
Interesting backstory, except for a few flaws – Dimitri isn’t an italian name, it’s Russian; the dates don’t jive: Comodus didn’t rule until 180 AD, and Dimitri doesn’t get killed off. A for effort, tho.
The rest of the interview with him is great… until he talks about how Dmetri is recurring until he gets killed off at the end. Which he doesn’t. Maybe Charlie got confused.
I love Charlie, he’s super and sooo funny!always find myself laughing at his interviews.
I love ths story he made up for Demetri, however the spelling of the name, although uncommon does make Demetri most likely of Greek origin, but bless his cotton sock!
Can’t wait to see New Moon!
he didn’t say he was killed off – he said he was too nice for someone to just kill him (so they turned him). i like the background and hes yummmmmmmmy in this picture too.
he does say he gets killed off. When the interviewer asks if he is recurring.
didn’t evsuvious erupt in 79A.D.? Or am I just being a moron for a bit?
No, exactly right. And there is or was no town called Mt. Vesuvus. Please, c’mon, there are well know cities he could have taken instead. Pompeji, Herculaneum, Oplontis, Stabiae… Mt. Vesuvus isn’t very creative.
I give him an A for effort but i do hope that by him saying Demetri gets killed off he didn’t let something slip. I’ll b very disappointed if they killed him off for no reason.
i admire the guy, this is how actors are *supposed* to study for roles! and i wouldn’t call Demetri a minor role… not anymore…
No way can he get killed off. Breaking Dawn would be in shambles if he was dead. The book is all about what she can do to keep her family safe from him. Seriously? Maybe he just misspoke… I really, really hope so.
Great imagination indeed.
