The St. Bernard Project: Kellan Lutz Backs His Cause With His Wallet To the Tune of 15K

Kellan Lutz has tweeted about his involvement with The St. Bernard Project several times over the past eighteen months or so. The organization has nothing to do with lovable dogs; it has to do with putting displaced New Orleans families back in homes. Recently he had castmates Rami Malek and Casey LeBow building houses with him.

Kellan just sent out a Tweet that lead to this page on the St. Bernard Project website:

“It’s Mardi Gras season in New Orleans and there are still many families whose homes were flooded by Katrina 5 1/2 years ago and have not been able to rebuild and move home. So I’m doing something about it. I’m the Grand Marshal of the St. Bernard Project’s Get on the Float campaign and am funding a family’s home by donating personally and raising money from the cast and crew of Twilight.

Now I need my fans to join me too. Can I count on you to help?

The St. Bernard Project is amazing and I want everyone to get involved with them. This Mardi Gras Season, Get on the Float for St. Bernard Project by donating today. We want to get at least two families back home and we can do that by raising $40,000.”

So after looking at the entire write up, I scanned down the page to see who donated and I gained a whole new respect for Kellan Lutz. He donated $15,000 to start the project off.

Kellan Lutz and Rami Malek Ask Fans to “Get on the Float”

The other day Kellan Lutz Tweeted a photo of him, Rami Malek (Benjamin) and Casey LeBow (Kate) spending the day building houses for the St. Bernard Project. The St. Bernard Project has nothing to do with lovable dogs, rather it’s all about building homes in post-Katrina Louisiana. They routinely partner with other well-known organizations such as Americorps and the United Way

Here’s the link to the fund Rami and Kellan are talking about.

According to their press release this is what the “Get on the Float” initiative is all about:

Get on the Float — Help SBP rebuild 20 families homes and raise $ 350,000 this Mardi Gras Season.

Carnival season is New Orleans’ biggest time of year. Hundreds of thousands of travelers from around the globe descend upon the Crescent City for the celebration that is Mardi Gras. [Read more…]
