Kellan and Ashley Still To Sign on the Dotted Line

kellashAccording to a report in the industry trade paper, The Hollywood Reporter (THR), Kellan Lutz and Ashley Greene have not yet signed on for Breaking Dawn.  THR goes on to state that other actors with similar sized roles such as Billy Burke and Peter Facinelli have already signed on.

“The studio is close to finalizing agreements with leads Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner, all of whom will get big raises to return for a fifth installment of the vampire romance saga…But Summit is having a harder time locking in some of the franchise’s secondary characters. Deals for Peter Facinelli (who plays Carlisle Cullen) and Billy Burke (Bella’s father, Charlie Swan) are done, but we’re told the actors who play the Cullen kids (especially Kellan Lutz and Ashley Greene) are trying to sink their teeth into bigger paydays that, at least at this point, the studio behind the billion-dollar franchise is unwilling to provide. “We may have a situation where one of them is thrown out on the street to make a point,” says a source close to the dealmaking.”

The Hollywood Reporter is generally accepted as a credible industry source, second only to Variety. So this is interesting information to take in.  Check out the whole article, there’s a lot to absorb in there. What do you think?

Victoria had a bit part in the first 2, I won’t miss her. But Ashley IS Alice! Who could replace tiny, adorable Ash as Jazz’s pixie? Throw an extra few $$$ at her if she wants. It will be worth the memories that we will share with OUR grandkids. There is more to Twilight than just “The Big Three”. (Like my room full of Alice/Ashley posters!) TEAM GREENE!

  2. Wow, everyone has an opinion!

As much as I love Ashley and Kellan, and it would be awful if they were replaced, I have to admit that it’s somewhat presumptive if they’re asking for too much money. As awesome as they are in their roles, they have to accept the fact that they are not major characters and minor characters get smaller paychecks. Every movie so far that these two have done have been smaller or indie movies. they aren’t at the level yet to be demanding super-large amounts of money.

What is people’s problem with Summit? They seem dedicated to these movies being better and better, even if it is for money-I mean, it’s a business. Yes, they are making alot of money, but seriously if Ashley or Kellan want as much a Rob, Kristen and Taylor then they’re deluded.

And that comment about Rob and Kristen not being able to act(?) I can’t get. If they were such horrible actors really would people be watching these movies? Especially Rob-if you have seen Remember Me there’s no way you can say he can’t act.

I hope this gets resolved before Ashley and Kellan start looking a bit like divas to the fans, and I certainly hope it doesn’t come to the point that they’re replaced. That would be sad…I hate to say it, but I don’t know how far their celebrity would take them if they bowed out of BD.

I look at it like this: It depends on what they’ve been getting paid. Kristen and Rob were guarenteed $2 million for Twilight, and were offered up reportedly $7.5-10 million a peice for both New Moon and Eclipse. Kristen, Rob and Taylor are now believed to be getting paid $12-15 million a piece for the first Breaking Dawn film. So if Ashley and Kellan are getting offered about $5 million, that’s fine. Less than that, then I’d question Summit’s commitment financially to the films and stars that not only have made them highly profitiable, but bailed them out of having to file for Chapter 11 or maybe even Chapter 7 bankruptcy.

Summit is making craploads of money off the series, and a few K’s of the green won’t make a difference considering that Twilight and New Moon have made nearly a billion dollars world wide. Summit is one of the few companies, media or otherwise that have turned a major profit since 2008.

But you have to consider the fact that if Summit is greedy, it’s not entriely unfounded, since they want to become known for more than the Twilight Saga movies and that just two years ago, they were nearly bankrupt. Wouldn’t you want to spend as little money as possible as long as most everyone is happy.

But there may be a trump card. Stephenie Meyer is a producer of Breaking Dawn, and she owns the copyrights to the Twilight novels(LB Teens/Hatchett Book Group own distribution rights, and Summit owns film distribution rights), and Stephenie wanted Ashley as Alice. If Steph sees something she doesn’t like, she, being one of the richest women in America, can buy out her contract and hand the BD movie rights to someone else. For Summit’s sake, I don’t want it to come to that, but if they’re as seedy as some say they are, the deserve it.

To add to my original post:

But then again, Summit paid Michael Sheen about $7 Million dollars for being on screen in New Moon for only about 15-20 minutes. That’s not far off the low end of what I heard that Kristen Stewart was offered for NM, and she was on screen over 95% of the movie. Grant you, Kristen probably could care less about the money as long as she get’s her cut and she sees something in the charater that she plays(the got craploads less to play Joan Jett in The Runaways). But giving a guy $7million for being on screen for 20 minutes? No knock against Mike, as I like the guy, but c’mon!

The truth may be in the middle, but Summit has made enough questionable moves and has what some have deemed to be questionable /self-serving motives behind the films(such as saving themselves from bankruptcy)to give hardend fans of the films some pause.

  4. Here’s what Entertainment Weekly has on the story:

“Greene and Lutz had initially banded together with fellow co-stars Nikki Reed and Jackson Rathbone to form a united front, but sources say Reed backed down and is now close to finalizing her deal, which is said to be in the $750,000-$1 million range per film — the amount Summit initially offered the four cast members. (Rathbone’s status remains unclear, and his reps had not returned a call for comment at press time. Reed’s manager declined to comment.)”

“The studio declined to comment on the negotiations. But sources tell EW.com that Greene and Lutz believe that because the supporting actors do as much publicity as the lead actors, and have to log almost as many hours on set, they should be paid accordingly. One source involved in the negotiations says that Greene and Lutz just want to get $1 million or more.”

For a film that could make a billion dollars — BD is awesome in its scale and action-packed storyline — that doesn’t seem like too much to ask, does it?

    • You only put in part of the story…

“Greene and Lutz don’t have huge roles. Greene portrays Alice Cullen, the future-seeing sister of Edward Cullen and Bella’s closest friend in the Cullen clan. Lutz plays older brother Emmett Cullen and his part, so far, has been minor. Yet sources tell EW.com that the duo are asking for $4 million a piece for each of the final two films.”

So in answer to your question, no 1 million doesn’t seem outrageous…but 4 Million??? That’s just wrong

  5. I seriously don’t care about replacing them, since the whole series was ruined by replacing Rachelle.

Kellan and Ashley seem like stuck up little hollywood kids.

As long as Kristen and Rob are in, then I dont care

  6. Danielle says

I still cant believe Summit is letting this happen… youd think they would release a “we have it under control” out by now or confirm or deny what THR had to say…. unprofessional idiots!!!

  7. All I know is they better not recast!!!! The WHOLE cast has to come back for BD!!!! Especially the Cullens!!! Summit has made a tone of $$$ off these movies & the actors deserve a rage. I hated that they recast Victoria & if they do it again Summit will have A LOT of VERY ANGRY fans on their hands!!

  8. KSmithGray says

Let’s break this down by numbers.

If Kristen makes $12,000,000 for 90 minutes of footage in Breaking Dawn, that puts her cost at $133,333 per minute. If Ashley miraculously sees even five minutes of footage and “demands” $5,000,000 for it, that puts her at $1,000,000 per minute. A million dollars per minute? As a very minor supporting role? Are you freaking kidding me?

If these rymors are true and Kellan and Ashley are demanding more money, I have a few things to say about it. First and foremost, they should heed extreme caution when they make their demands; I don’t think Summit takes too kindly to primadonas. Secondly, no one knew who these people even were before Twilight. Kellan was a hot sometimes-Abercrombie model and Ashley was a waitress. Twilight has given them more money, fame, an opportunity in a single year than either have seen in their entire career. Thirdly, we’ve given up our loyalty for one replacement before, don’t think it will create an uprising if you quit and Summit has to find another pretty face to butcher one-liners.

For spokespeople for humanitarian groups, demanding exessive amounts of money sure is greedy.

  9. How stupid are Summmit..and GREEDY they have made a WHOLE LOAD of money, to start a retirement fund for each of them..they cant raise the actors salary? I mean its so ridiculos, I swear to god if they dont keep them in the movie, I will not watch it..oh and someelse mentioned something super important…ashley WILL be huge role in BD two, and they WILL cut to a few scenes of what she and jasper are upto…urgh friggin summit…if they think they can get away with it, they have another thing comming

  10. It was sad to see Victoria recast, but it’s Victoria. It’s like in Harry Potter, Angelina, Katie, they got recast, but it wasn’t a big deal. If they recast Dean or Seamus it would be. Alice and Emmett are big and even if their part in the books is not huge, them being replaced would be more noticeable.

  11. KERLYNNE says

DID ANYONE get the part where they are going to move the shoot to louisanna?? OH GOOD GOD that is insane!! How can you make a swamp look like the pacific northwest?? “yeah let’s do the battle scene outside of New Orleans, it looks like th meadow in forks, washington”!!!WHAT the hell???
Kellen and Ashley need to calm down and compromise. They both are replaceable as even the stars could be if they screw up.
