Cake Eaters Blog Lobbies For Oscar Nomination

The Cake Eaters blog is rallying to bring Kristen Stewart’s performance in The Cake Eaters wider recognition. They hope this then leads to an Oscar nomination for Kristen Stewart.

The Cake Eaters, directed by Mary Stuart Masterson. According to their official site,  “‘The Cake Eaters’ is a quirky, small town, ensemble drama that explores the lives of two interconnected families coming to terms with love in the face of loss.” Kristen Stewart plays “Georgia Kaminski, a terminally ill teenage girl wanting to experience love before it’s too late…”

  1. October 13th many of us here (on Lexicon) had a discussion on her great performance. My comment:
“In 2007 Kristen did The Cake Eaters (currently playing on Showtime). She’s not mentioned in the listing, but if you want to see her range… great performance as a teenage girl with Friedreich’s ataxia. Destined to be of our great American actresses.”

this movie was amazing and Kristin did an excellent job on her role. I would love to see this get nominated.

  3. I loved this movie. It was serious and had funny moments at the same time. I thought Kristen did an incredible job. It must have been so hard playing someone with the condition and I was very impressed with her performance. I love that she tries so many different things and doesn’t get stuck in the same roll in every movie (Jennifer Aniston!). It makes you look forward to see what project she’s going to be involved in next. I hope she gets recognized for her performance here.

    • Took the words right out of my mouth!!

      Kristen Stewart is amazing!!

    • This movie had a very real feeling to it. Kristen is a very talented actress.

Also another movie she did that is being overlooked is Adventureland.

Keep up the great job and like I stated in the past. I would love to see the things she will do in 20 years!!

  4. Kristen was absolutely brilliant in The Cake Eaters and I hope she’ll get the recognition she deserves for this role.

  5. Yep. Kristen was absolutely fantastic, and her performance was a clear refutation to anyone who claims that she lacks acting chops. From what I’ve seen, she’s doing brilliantly in New Moon, as well.

  6. I liked this movie o.k. By the end I think it fell a little flat. However, there were great performances in it, including Kristen’s! She was definately a stand-out in it!

  7. She was very good in the cake eaters, but not oscar worthy.

  8. This is a really great movie, one of Kristen Stewart’s best performances. Or the best that has been released so we can see it. (Still waiting for Cutlass, and The Yellow Handkerchief) And considering that she was just 16 when she was in this movie, she should get an award for her deeply moving performance. This is a story which could only be told by an actor as passionate as Kristen. I’d be great to see her get the recognition for being more than “Bella”, because she is a great talent who was in like a dozen movies before Twilight BLEW UP in her face.

i think her acting was good but the movie itself was kind of a let down, it built up to something really great and flatlined in the end.

  10. Yeah it wasn’t bad and Kristen was okay in it but absolutely not oscar worthy, I’m going to get creamed for this but she kind of acted the same in some of this and Twilight, I just don’t think she’s that versatile. I’m sorry that’s just my opinion, I was so excited to see this and then it wasn’t that great, Kristen was good, but I don’t think she’s going to have an oscar performance any time soon. At some point in her life quite possibly but right now it’s just not there, it looks like she may have improved for new moon, but her cake eaters performance not oscar material, I did like the guy in it though.

  11. Kristen was phenomenal in this role. It is most definitely oscar worthy. She deserves recognition for this role as movie critics have previously pointed out. I really enjoyed this movie, it was a poingant coming of age story about a young girl with a disabling disease. However, regardless of the movie, Kristen’s portrayal of this young girl was outstanding.

  12. Loved Kristen in this movie!! She makes the movie worth watching!

  13. I don’t think that The Cake Eaters is eligible for Oscar nominations considering it first premiered at The Tribeca Film Festival in ’07, and played at several film fests throughout ’07 and ’08.

You need to have an actual regular theater run of at least 7 days in LA County during the qualifying year (that would be this year) to be eligible, and if my memory serves correctly, I don’t recall seeing The Cake Eaters have a regular run in theaters out here. The DVD release doesn’t count toward eligibility. Sorry, but the lobbying might be a waste of effort. =\

  14. We saw this one before seeing her in Into the Wild and we were blown away! She is perfect in this role and seemed so natural playing this difficult part.

  15. I want to see this movie so bad. I actually like Kristen’s hair cut short like that. She looks very pretty, chic. 🙂

  16. I think this is Kristens best work. She did a superb job in this film. I would love to see it get nominated.

  17. i absolutly love love loved this movie
    i highly recommend it
its very deserving of an oscar

  18. Very touching film and superb acting by her and the other actors. The characters are so realistic and you get so drawn it, love it.

  19. Impressive article. When will I get the more info?
