Fans Showing Movie Love

Twilight Series Theories is starting a "Belting It Out For Billy" campaign.  According to TST, "We know that many of the actors in Twilight have gotten a lot of attention lately for their roles in the movie, and rightly so. But one of the stand-out performances that we here at TST have really loved is that of Billy Burke. Billy plays Charlie in the film and we really think that he deserves some love for bringing some comic relief, as well as a lot of heart, to the role…To show some recognition to this great actor, we are creating a new campaign called “Belting in Out for Billy Burke!” Since Billy was once in a band, we want to put together a video of the fans singing about all of the reasons they love him."

Via YouTube, here’s a great holiday inspired movie parody. For whatever reason it doesn’t want to embed, go figure. Here is the direct link.

So if you want to particpate in this project here’s what you do. We’re making a video. By December 20, send a Volturi themed photo, graphic, or a brief quote as to why they rock to [email protected]

Make-up 411 breaks down Ashley Greene’s Alice look. TY to Kaila.

Though things are still very tense, some A-list stars have vocally come out and taken a "no-stike stance" when it comes to SAG (the Screen Actors Guild). A SAG strike could cripple the movie industry this year if a strike is called.

The LA Times has some great commentary on reading between the lines on Chris Wietz.

Fan Projects

If you are looking to get together with other Twilight fans this summer at Twicon, their celebrity list just got bigger. According to their most recent press release:

The nation’s No. 1 motion picture will come to life in Dallas next summer, as five stars of the film "Twilight" have now confirmed their attendance at the US’s largest fan convention dedicated to the Stephenie Meyer’s series of books by the same name. Peter Facinelli – starring as Dr. Carlisle Cullen in the fall blockbuster; and Jackson Rathbone – who portrays Jasper Hale- will join Kellan Lutz (Emmett Cullen), Ashley Greene (Alice Cullen) and Mike Welch (Mike Newton) at TwiCon ’09 — which will be held July 30 – Aug. 2, 2009 at the Sheraton Dallas Hotel and Convention Center.

Book News

One teacher talks about the Twilight Saga and the value of reading.

NOVEL NOVICE Another teacher, Tiffani Truitt of Novel Novice, writes a paper that explores how female fans, particularly female Twilight fans, are misrepresented in various popular culture outlets.

This is a result of two main issues: (1), the line between fan and fanatic is often difficult to define, thus large fandoms are often written off as obsessive, dangerous and unable to think for themselves. (2), Female fandoms suffer this cruel and uninformed misrepresentation the most. While society has accepted the buying power of female consumers, it repeatedly tries to write off this power by declaring it a product of superficial desires.

Here’s where Stephenie’s books are this week.

Robert gave his two cents to the UK’s Times on the whirlwind his life has been in the last few years.

New Moon News-Major Media Chimes In

The Wallstreet Journal’s MarketWatch has more on who’s leading New Moon behind the scenes.

The La Times, which in our opinion is the newspaper who’s Twilight Saga coverage has been second to none, gives their spin here.

MTV points out something that is obviously missing, but does not persay mean anything as Kristen and Rob’s names have frequently been the only two names cited in Summit press releases.

Official News from Summit and Stephenie Meyer

Stephenie Meyer’s official web site has been updated today with the announcement that Chris Weitz has indeed been given the director’s position for New Moon.  The announcement comes with her own feelings about missing Catherine Hardwicke as an authentic voice for the Twilight world and a good friend, as well as her hopes for working with Chris in the future.

There is a letter from Chris to the fandom because, yes, he is very much aware of how much these books mean to all of us.  He talks about how much he enjoyed Twilight as a film and how devoted he is to bringing a faithful version of New Moon to the big screen.

Stephenie also updated her movie page with photos from the premiere.
