Filming for Cosmopolis With Robert Pattinson Begins Today

Now that Breaking Dawn has wrapped, Robert Pattinson hasn’t taken much of a break!  He’s heading right into his next film, Cosmopolis, directed by David Cronenberg as well as starring along side Paul Giamatti, Juliette Binoche, and Samantha Morton.  The film is based on the book by Don DeLillo and is about a millionaire who goes across Manhattan to get a hair cut and ends up in a series of crisis that turn his finances and world up side down.  Principal photography begins today in Toronto and will run through the end of July.

Tell us in the comments if you’ve read the book and how you feel about Rob being cast in the roll.

  1. So that means we won’t get him for the MTV awards right ? Sucks. At least well have Taylor and Kristen ? They might as well have the Cullens introduce the clip. But good for Rob !

    • I don’t think he’ll miss the MTV movie awards. He was in the middle of filming Water for Elephants last summer and still attended the show. Since he’s the leading male in Twilight, they accomodate his schedule so that he can attend events like that. Don’t worry we’ll see him,Kristen and Taylor introduce the much anticipated teaser trailer for Breaking Dawn part 1. We’ll all be on the edge of our seats for that one.

I wonder of the reason he doesn’t take long breaks is because of the paparazzi and fandamonium. If he’s working, then he gets to met and hang with people. He has somewhere safe to go.
I look forward to seeing him play something other than a romantic lead with a little more action. :-)

  3. I’ve read the book. He is playing the role of a comlpete jerk. He really needs this roll to distance himself from EC. I have high hopes that it will be good for him.

  4. I looked for a copy of Cosmopolis months ago before it was republished and eventually managed to find an old copy. I can’t wait to see what they do with the movie because I thought the book was awful and a very hard read but I was determined to stick with it to the very end. Luckily it’s quite a small book. I just don’t know how they will make a good movie out of a man spending most of the day in a limo on his way to get a hair cut.

I can see RP as Eric Packer but Daisymay may be disappointed because there’s not a lot of action in the book. Hopefully they will put more in the movie.

Rob works because he is hot now and can. Gotta make the money while the iron is hot. And I know he is learning and growing as an actor. I can’t wait to see him in all the movies he makes in the future.

Sounds like a good character role. I wonder how playing a jerk in Bel Ami will impact this role?

  7. Lynne Stringer says:

I just hope he doesn’t wear himself out.

  8. The book is horrid. Sorry, but I’m a librarian and have read thousands of books in my lifetime, and this one was one of the worst I’ve attempted to read. (Didn’t buy it, by the way. I read it online.) I never got past the 1st chapter. It sounds like a college student creative writing assignment where the kid is trying to impress the professor with big words that don’t make any sense. I had to reread paragraphs over and over to understand what the man was trying to say!

The script/film can only be an improvement of this terrible book. And of course, ROBERT PATTINSON will DEFINITELY be an improvement!!

Can’t wait to see Rob play this emotionally barren character…

    • Lynne Stringer says:

Well, I guess the big words won’t be in the film. Maybe it will work better visually.

    • OTB, I’m so glad I wasn’t the only one who had to keep re-reading page after page to try and understand what the author was trying to say.

I agree, the big improvement will be having Rob in the movie.

  9. I read the book. I think it will be unlike any roll he has played previously. Although the Bel Ami character is a cad, he is trying to get ahead by using everyone. In Cosmopolis Eric Paker is already on top and the story seems to be his personal downward spiral. I am sure he will do a fantasitc job and am glad he chose something so unique.
