Robert Pattinson Italian Vanity Fair Interview

The staff over at Robert Pattinson News managed to snag a translation of the Robert Pattinson’s interview with the Italian version of Vanity Fair.

Is it true that the first thing you do when you are given a script is read the first and the last line?

“If the screenwriter is good, the beginning and the end work and there’s a 75% chance it’s a good story. Otherwise, the best thing to do is forget it. Today the problem is that scripts with the worst-written first pages are those that are made into movies and and make more money.”

-Are you saying that Twilight is badly-written?

“Things don’t always work this way. But it’s true that when I first read it, it didn’t appeal to me. I couldn’t understand what was so special and why everybody was so into it.”

  1. …but I was an out of work actor and like all unemployed actors I took the first available project and hoped for the best. Which Twilight definitely is. Yeah, Twilight!!!

I am one of millions who is thankful Rob looked beyond the bad scripts to become Edward. The screenwriting is indeed the weakest link in all of the movies. M. Rosenberg just doesn’t get it. I used to blame C. Hardwicke (my apologies, Miss Catherine), but as the movies continued, the one thread that made them the most disappointing was the screenwriting.

Just my opinion, haters need not apply.

    • I have to agree with you. I also blamed Catherine Hardwick for Twilight’s weakness but now realize it is the script writing. The books were so amazing it is a shame that the movies couldn’t follow that.

    • Agreed, the screenwriting is indeed the weakest link in Twilight movies. I’m dreading what Melissa did with Breaking Dawn… she just doesn’t get this series.

Great article if you read the whole thing. Interesting to read the cultural issues, not many American magazines would ask about empathisizing with sexual infidelity. And such a charming response! I’m in danger of developing a Rob obsession ….

  4. When I read the excerpt, all I could think was how people would crucify Kristen if she made the same comment about Twilight. But I do love Rob’s honesty (and Kristen’s) when so much in Hollywood is fake.
