Bryce Dallas Howard in Saturday Night Magazine

Saturday Night Magazine which has previously done spreads on Ashley Greene, and Alex Meraz, is now featuring Bryce Dallas Howard. Bryce is insightful and incredibly gracious in the article.

SNMag: Did you feel pressure coming into this, with the character already being established?

BDH: Yes, of course I did. Rachelle [Lefevre] did an extraordinary job at creating Victoria and part of the joy of a franchise like this is getting to see not only the characters grow but the actors continuing to grow with the characters. That’s a lot of the joy in the Harry Potter series. Every time I see one of those movies it’s so exciting to see them because they’re all getting a little bit older and different things are happening to them. It’s like watching a TV show. You start to connect with the actors really deeply. It was really unfortunate for everybody that Rachelle left. I did feel, I don’t know if I should say a pressure, but an enormous responsibility because the fans felt really strongly about the role of Victoria and they felt a deep connection to Rachelle, which they should because she is also beautiful and talented. I really did do my best and I hope that whatever work I did can somehow honor what had been created before and what was created by Stephenie. I felt really grateful to this because Rachelle and I have connected. She’s an amazing woman and has been enormously and overwhelmingly helpful.”

Check it all out on Saturday Night.

Love her! Bryce is not only a greet actress, but a sweetheart too.

    • Rosalie's Pain says:

I saw “the village” and I loved the movie. I don’t think she is all that or a movie star for that matter. I’ve yet to hear BDH is starting in a movie that she can open on her own. I hated Lady in the Water and Spiderman 3. She goes into this movies thinking they are going to be a huge success and she can have braggin rights that she has been in a movie that made so much money. BDH is box office poison if you ask me. She jumps in franchises that have already proven themselves, or with directors that are well known for having blockbuster(M.Night Shamalan). I will not be watching Eclipse at the theater and it wont be because of BDH. It will be because of the way that Summit treated Rachelle. I am sick of big companies crapping on their employees just because they have the power to do so. Rachelle was not only grateful for having the part, she was huge in promoting the franchise as well. Remember, Rachelle went to a Wal-Mart and was autographing copies of Twilight when it first came out on video.

  2. Sylvia says:

She seems very sweet, I really don’t want to hate on her because of how the suits decided to deal with Rachelle. I’m withholding my opinion until I see the movie.

  3. Sara says:

Sorry, but I still can’t stand her! nothing to do with her acting skills, it’s personal. (Thief!!)

    • tanisha says:

it’s not her fault though, so it wouldn’t be fair to blame her for that. blame summit, not her.

and i agree with sylvia, i want to see how she portrays victoria before forming any opinions.

  4. cmomma says:

Yeah… it’s “personal” because I, like, totally know her personally and all.

    (Sarcasm)

  5. Luthien says:

I recall a certain amount of furor over Rachelle’s firing on this website. And rightly so. I really think a lot of the upset has nothing at all to do with BDH’s acting skills, but the way that Rachelle’s exit was handled, and then there’s the fact that BDH didn’t want the role of Victoria in the first film because she thought the role was too small. And now suddenly, voila. Here’s a quote from the New York Daily News in August:

“The San Francisco Chronicle reports that Dallas Howard initially turned down the role of Victoria in what became one of the biggest teen hits of the year. “I know we originally asked BDH (Bryce Dallas Howard) to do the first movie,” Hardwicke said, “but she thought it was too small a part at that time.”

And now I guess it’s not too small a part…..

    • Amber says:

Really? I was…quite unaware of this. That’s really not cool.

    • sara says:

Yeah that and in the interview on this post she says that Rachelle left the part, when that was in fact not what happened. I’m sure BDH is just saying that because she doesn’t want to upset Summit by telling the truth, but she shouldn’t lie either. Rachelle didn’t leave the part of Victoria and she actually loved the saga. Its sad that she was replaced by someone who didn’t even originally want the part.

    • Erin says:

And that is a big part of why I don’t like her as Victoria. The other is that I’m not impressed with her acting skills; I’ve seen her in one good part in “The Village” but after that it was like a bunch of small stuff that any competent actress could have handled (“Spiderman 3″ anyone?) but she was cast and exclaimed over because she was BDH. I’m not saying she doesn’t seem like a nice person, but I just don’t like how this whole thing was handled – and her part in it.

    • Pamela says:

Once again, thank you Luthien! This is the VERY reason I don’t particularly care for her. You can see how careful she chooses her words when speaking about the whole Rachelle thing..because she knows she didn’t want to the part from the get go! She felt it was “too small.” Now do the rest of you see that this very action from BDH shows you that she is “not exactly the sweet actress who is just helping out Summit when they don’t have an actress to fill the part so close to production” kind of a person.

She was Catherine’s first choice in Twilight, she said she didn’t want it cause it was too small, Twilight is HUGE, grossing like $300 million, and now, all of a sudden, she’s Victoria!!!! Like I’ve said before, I’m sure she’s a good actress and all but as a person, now that’s questionable.

    • Donna says:

Amen Luthien! Glad this little tidbit is finally coming out!! I’m so disillusioned with this actress right from the start, and I haven’t even seen her act in anything. She seems opportunistic. Everybody wants a “bite” of Twilight now.

  6. Leigh says:

Yea, I’m in agreement with all you guys and I keep getting the sense with BDH that she ‘weasels’ her way into big parts, like “Spiderman 3.”

I don’t think her Dad acts on her behalf but I’m sure SHE thinks that’s enough to bully people with and she seems like a self entitled princess. Hearing that she didn’t want the role to begin with makes it even worse. It’s like a blemish on our beloved franchise.

Rachelle was always so grateful and appreciative too. She didn’t think the role or the story was beneath her and really put her all in getting into the character. The size of the part didn’t cross her mind she just wanted to be an actress, do her thing, bring this character to life and be a part of something she respected. BDH is NONE of that.

I hope she realizes she is NOT welcome. We can be cordial to her but she is not like Rachelle or like other actors such as Peter F and so on who are so enthusiastic and supportive and just care all around.

  7. RockinRobbin says:

‘It was really unfortunate for everybody that Rachelle left,’ Left?????? How about unfortunate that you managed to get her squeezed out because you saw how big the role you originally thought was ‘too small’ for you actually is now? Can anyone say ‘vulture’? Just be glad that she is only going to ruin one movie of the series with her pathetic over acting.

  8. This has no bearing on BDH’s acting skill… but it’s personal. I’m Team RACHELLE!!! I believe daddy had A LOT to do with it. I do blame SCUMmit! Between Twilight and New Moon – most of the cast did small projects. Rachelle didn’t leave, she was kicked out and left to fend for herself. Ron Howard and Imagine Entertainment better not touch BD (1 or 2). BDH is a thief with a side of vulture!

  9. Zookie Monster says:

I like BDH. :) Although, I don’t know much of her personality, but I think, Victoria isn’t that small of a part, actually. >_> In all reality she’s huge, just not as huge as Edward or Bella, obviously. But I liked her in Spiderman 3 and Terminator: Salvation. :)

I thought what Summit did to Rachelle was totally rude and it makes them look like idiots. She asked for what–a 10 day break to help work on another movie, and they hated that? Come on…ten days, seriously, Summit? :/

    • Twi-ing says:

I am not familiar with BDH work but I can’t imagin anyone other that R.L. playing victoria. She is not only beautiful she played the part brilliantly. I also believe she fell in love with the character and thats why she went for the part. I am so gutted that she was taken out and pissed at summit for the way they treated her. I have also thought of not watching Eclipes because of it but I am curious as to how BDH will do. My guess is she will not be anywhere as good as R.L.

Summit (or SCUMit, as someone so rightly said)should be ashamed of themselves. I also believe that BDH’s father was an influence and the fact she originally turned the part down in the first place is sickening.

    • yolla says:

ok I don’t have an opinion on the matter…at first I was all “wtf? 10 days? and she gets booted?” but in all seriousness they shot the entire movie in 3 months. and the part of victoria is quite large in this one. So that 10 day conflict could have totally jacked up their shooting schedule. I mean in a 3 month period 10 days is epic, and the actors work around the studio not the other way around. I think its gonna be hard seeing another person play victoria, but I think that due to the fact that we have no clue what went down other than that small bit of info that we should just calm down, accept what happened, and move on.

  10. safina says:

I really miss Rachelle. I don’t have anything against Bryce, but every time I see her, I remember what happened to our dear Rachelle, and I really get angry. I won’t judge Bryce just yet, I need to watch her performance in Eclipse before saying anything.
