Melissa Rosenberg Gives Thumbs Up to Slade

Melissa Rosenberg updated her Facebook page regarding Eclipse director David Slade.

“Finally got to spend some time with our new director for Eclipse, David Slade. And I gotta say, he’s great. Very smart, funny, creative. I already knew he was a really talented and visual filmmaker, but now I know he’s terrific to work with as well. Collaborative and, most important (from a writer’s point of view) smart about story, character and emotional arcs. He gets it. And he’s going to make Eclipse into a fantastic movie. So relax Eclipse fans! We’re in good hands.”

  1. mananda says:

not so much worried about the director as I am HER! lol

  2. Rose says:

i second that mananda. all the drama surrounding directors when really what they should be focusing on is the screenplay writer.

  3. Twifanatic Amanda says:

Too bad her word doesn’t mean a thing to me. Haha!

  4. Cheryl says:

Good hands? *growls* That’s funny, Melissa! David Slade did 30 Days of Night, which was your typically crappy horror flick. I hope he doesn’t try to make Eclipse horror. I heard him diss Twilight on the radio, and then try to cover it later on. I’m not buying it. For all I know he’s just in it for the money. I’m not even gonna go into how bad the Twilight script was.
God! Chris Weitz should direct Eclipse and Breaking Dawn. Summit NEEDS to hire a new screen writer.

  5. Amanda says:

Ok what is up with that comment? “I think his is a creative….” And “No worries Eclipse fans! We are in good hands” Ya I wish we were in good hands. I wish they would just stick with Cathrine. She was pretty good about Twilight and made it pretty close to the book. Although Chris Weitz would be ok too. But not David Slade. He is not the man for a Twilight movie

  6. Marky says:

ok so whattheforks.wordpress.com somehow got ahold of the script for New Moon (it’s not up anymore, it got taken down the same day) but anyway I read it, and it’s suuuuper good. Nothing important was left out and all the crucial parts were in there, trust me! Now I don’t know if that script was the final draft or whatever, because the only scene that was missing was when Mike, Bella & Jacob go to the movies, and I remember seeing somewhere (maybe here on the Lex?) that they were shooting that scene. I THINK the girls over at whattheforks can email a copy of the script, but I’m not sure. Let’s just all hope that David really is “smart about character and emotional arcs.” because if he is, I don’t think we have THAT much to worry about.

  7. Marky says:

I know, basically my point is that since she’s working with David on the next film and if that script is as good as New Moon’s AND he’s smart about character arcs & storytelling & all that, that Eclipse will turn out as good as we all want it to be. It better anyways…..

  8. Blue Bell says:

Give me a break…neither one of these people have Twilight’s best interests in mind. David only apologized because summit told him to…he had no intention of doing it or he would have said something way before now. Melissa butchered Twilight so bad it was criminal. Many scenes were way off base. The meadow scene was the heart and soul of the book and it was a joke in the movie. Edward and Bella never said “I love you” and they were angry and confrontational in the scene. Shame on both of these people for thinking the fans will overlook all this!

    • Minaminx says:

I really honestly couldn’t agree more with this entire statement. I understand books are 99.9% of the time better than the movie’s they make out of them. But there’s no excuse when you have such AWESOME material to work with, it’s almost like she had to stamp out all the good Stephanie created out of spite or jealousy and put her own little pale shadow of a mark on the movie. Director writer whatever, someone messed up and big time.

  9. Luthien says:

OMG! We’re in the hands of Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee! Heaven help us all…..no, on second thought, I’d better just go see the Volturi and ask them for a favor…..

  10. Ms Lisa says:

So WHO is this Melissa and why do I care what she says. Proof is in the pudding. I’ll save my absolute judgments and opinions for when the movie comes out. If it’s an awesome movie I’ll be the first to say so and eat crow. If it sux, guess I won’t have to say, “told ya so”.

    • ishta says:

but if you love it will you say you were wrong. Told you so has it opposite side

      • Jane says:

Ishta I’m curious… every time someone writes something negative about Slade you get on them for it. Doggedly so at times.

Why is that? Why can’t anyone dislike Slade?

  11. Bella Jane says:

Gosh I wonder if Melissa Rosenberg even has the slightest inkling as to how much of a joke she is in {much of} the Twilight universe. Newsflash, MR, you massacred Twilight, do you think we have much faith in your opinions?

    • Bella Jane says:

Hmm I wonder what triggered the moderating…lol i purposely tried to use safer words. sorry lexiconers =(

  12. Amanda L. says:

Lol, I love how blissfully unaware Melissa is that a lot of Twilight fans don’t like her.
I don’t mind her, and I liked Twilight, but her opinion of Slade just does not mean anything to me! If she thinks her opinion matters to the fans I think for the most part she’s very wrong and it even has an adverse effect of calming fears.
Also, I think Slade is the wrong director for Eclipse. Hopefully he proves me wrong and the movies get better with each one.

  13. Thparkle says:

I think Melissa Rosenburg talks out of her as_ most of the time. I’m with pretty much everyone when I say I think they should have gotten a new screen writer for the next three films. I’m pretty sure she writes or co writes the screen play for Dexter on Showtime. I like that show a lot but its probably because I didn’t read the books. Like everyone else her opinion really has no weight. I personally didn’t like 30 days of Night (which Slade directed) either. And Hard Candy (another film he directed) was so so so disturbing. It was good, but really disturbing. I too think Melissa Rosenburg is oblivious to the fact that not many Twilighters or Twihards like her. Maybe when she finds this out she’ll stop messing with the chronology of the plot pertaining to the book when it comes to writing another screen play.

  14. Leah b. says:

Well now I’m worried…because if Melissa Rosenberg — the screenwriter who butchered the initial potential of the Twilight movie through cheesy lines and unfaithfulness to Stephenie’s masterpiece — if she thinks this David Slade is “great”, then I have serious doubts about Eclipse’s eventual direction. I wish both David and (especially) Melissa were going to be replaced for Eclipse and beyond! David’s poorly patched up “apology” over his derogatory comments on Twilight was clearly necessary in order to secure any kind of fan support. And Melissa’s taste in actors (Channing Tatum? Really? For Riley, an incidental character?) and apparently now directors is disturbing. Summit does not understand the true/original fans’ open disapproval of Melissa’s work. The actors, direction, etc. for Twilight were all in place, but the principle reasons it wasn’t Oscar-worthy were:
    1) The lame script
    2) The tiny budget
Well, budget solved. Screenwriter…? Apparently not.

P.S. Luthien, I couldn’t agree with you more!

  15. Trish says:

Does she really think her comments were going to makes the fans feel better. Summit needs to hire people who are devout fans of the book. That way we will get the movies we want. I want to see the written pages of these books come to life, not MR version of The Twilight Saga!!!!!!!!!

  16. M.P. says:

Hell yeah!!!! I couldn’t agree more with u LEAH B. I think is time for the folks up there hear us up, ‘cuz for the 1 movie (that woman almost screw up with the lame script, killing all the magic of the medow scene… etc.) we gave them what they want: our money. Now is time for they give what we want: an amazing movie, no more or less… Seriously don’t get me wrong, I’m not worry ’bout the director I’m worry about the screenwriter, & u Ms Rosenberg has fallen from my grace. Would be great if Summit hired Stephenie Meyer for this job or at least cowriter… What do u guys think?

  17. KAREN says:

I AGREE WITH SO MANY ABOVE, MANANDA, I’M WITH YOU,
ITS MELISSA WHO WAS PROBLEM WITH TWILIGT. THEY NEED A
GOOD SCRIPT. THE OTHER DID NOT CONNECT WITH BOOK VERY WELL. I MEAN, TRUTHFULLY, IF THERE HAD BEEN NO BOOKS,
NOBODY HAD EVEN READ BOOKS, THAT MOVIE WOULD HAVE NOT
BEEN A HIT IN ANY WAY (EXCEPT THE SOUND TRACK, IT WAS GREAT) THANK GOD WE HAD READ THE BOOKS, OR THE MOVIE WOULD HAVE HAD US SCRATCHING OUR HEADS LIKE ALL THOSE WHO WENT WHO DID READ BOOKS.

  18. Carly says:

Good heavens, what’s with all the negativity and bashing people? I thought MR did a pretty good job with Twilight. It wasn’t perfect, but I think a lot of that had to do with Catherine as the director and the fact that they were still trying to figure out what was important to people and in the story. The meadow scene sucked because of the special effects and the music, not the screenplay. Regardless, I think she has a good handle on the series and knows what is important, and especially working with the new directors, they point out any flaws in her thinking and vice versa. I know Chris sent the script back for rewrites a few times and I’m sure David Slade will as well. They don’t want to direct a bad screenplay, so I’m sure they’ll let any qualms they have be voiced. I totally trust her and what she says. Be nice people!

    • Minaminx says:

“”The meadow scene sucked because of the special effects and the music, not the screenplay”"

Well if the screenplay called for music instead of dialogue then there isn’t much anyone could blame on special effects is there?

    • Minaminx says:

I’m of the opinion that the author of the book ought to be the one to write a screenplay when at all possible.

  19. mschicklet says:

Ok Melissa…. but the question is… do YOU “get it”? ;)

    • shavei7 says:

      LOL. good question!
I’m still in the fence with this Slade character. He just better not eff up Eclipse. Apologies mean nothing until he delivers.

  20. Folk says:

Hahaha I don’t even need to post! Everyone covered my feelings on this whole thing beautifully. Does the lexicon have a forum? I’d be in heaven chatting with all of you over these things. Paradise indeed!

  21. Fiona says:

You guys need to give Melissa a break. I read the N.M script..im not gona say how..but i had my doubte to..but by the time i was finished i SWEAR i was almost crying because it was WAY better than i ever thought it was going to be and i didn’t leave anything improtant out!!!It is going to be WAY better than Twilight in my opinion and i think and so i think she would do good with Eclipse too!

    • Patty says:

I agree…give her a break! She is writing all the movies no matter what.. so deal with it- lol!

Have faith, I know I do. I want all movies to be perfect but no one is perfect. I was very happy with Twilight because I went to watch it with my mind open knowing that somethings were going to be different from what I wanted to see. And no matter anyone says around me I LOVED the movie.

  22. Cait says:

And here I was thinking I was the only one who hated MR…what a wakeup call. I should read comments more often. ^.^

    • Harvin says:

Same here!! I had no idea so many eyes had finaly been opened to her lack of talent! I’m setting my hopes high for Chris and David to rise above her butchering scripts!

And pleeaaaassseee David, pretty pretty please put your all into Eclipse. That’s my favorite book!

  23. safina says:

Well, let’s just hope what she said turns out right.

  24. Jane says:

Melissa, how clueless can you be?

I will relax when you have your hands OFF of the series!!!

  25. Amanda L. says:

    @ Ishita
Nobody should have to apologize for having an opinion. We are paying our money to see this movie. There is nothing wrong with wanting it done right, and being skeptical of him since it’s not his type of movie. Everybody just wants him to succeed and do a good job. Nothing is wrong with that.

  26. switzgal says:

Meh, I don’t trust her. And this Slade guy, whoever he is!!! LOL!! If he didn’t like Twilight before, he’s just saying all the right things NOW that he is contracted to direct it and know he’s gonna make $$$$ and tons of it!!

He BETTER NOT mess up Eclipse!!! It’s my favorite book of the series and it’s very emotional! If he makes it into a horror vampire flick, I’ll be p_ssed!!!

As for MR, I hope she realized after Twilight that SHE HAS TO STICK TO THE BOOKS!!!! Reading comment from people who’ve read the script gives me some hope that she NOW gets it!!! Just hope Mr. Slade does too!!! I’m still not sure about the whole thing!

    Summit better wisen up!!!

  27. natashaxoxo says:

I was just watching a muse interview on youtube and they mentioned how david slade directed some of their earlier music videos like ‘Bliss’ …. The muse/twilight connections continue!!
    I love them both!
