Total Film went on a date with Rob Patinson and shares with readers all the details the star talked about over dinner. Be warned, the language of the interview is rough in some places and isn’t appropriate for younger readers.
Ever wonder what a date with Rob is like?

Love you Lex!
Is this a real interview? It was so strange…
did I read this right – Edward and Bella’s reunion is NOT like the book.?
I read that too :s Kind of disappointing; I’m open for new things but their “new” reunion need to be spectacular and with REAL emotions & love to compete with the book! Kristen Stewart also needs to do a great job having the “this-can’t-be-real”-feeling. But again, I’m open for options but it better be a good one!! :p
Sounds like a date I might go on – odd, slightly confusing, a little dysfunctional. Lol! Not sure why they think that fans are going to love reunion if it’s NOT like the book! I mean really – don’t they know that support for the movies is driven by lovers of the books just as they are?!?! I’ll be off to see it anyway, but….really?
I thought it was bizarre, but for some reason just what I would expect from Rob. Seemed pretty short. It was a bit sad that he doesn’t read fan stuff online anymore, or at least not admitting to it.
The comment about the reunion being different set my nerves on edge. How different and in what way? Why on earth didn’t that interviewer ask about it instead of goofing off about the wine. Especially after that adoring introduction.
I wonder if he is speaking of the reunion in Italy, which hasn’t filmed yet, or in her bedroom. I would gladly sacrifice time in Italy for a more true representation of conversation in the bedroom after they get back. For me, that conversation is second only to the leaving-in-the-forest scene.
I can see now that little dribbles like this will continue up until the movie is in the theatres. I just don’t know how I’m going to remain conscious.
“Edward and Bella’s reunion in New Moon is good. It’s different from the book so I think people will be happy.”
Can’t wait to see it! I hope they’ll make it great!
He can take me on a date anytime..lol I might be a little old 4 him
Odd…first, that doesn’t even sound like a real interview with him. It honestly sounds as though they pieced together other interviews and made up questions to fit his answers to other things. Second, Edward and Bella’s reunion is different from the book?! How is that going to make fans happy? One of the biggest gripes I heard about “Twilight” was that some of the scenes (such as the meadow scene) were so drastically changed from the book.
It’s getting harder and harder to stay non-judgemental about where the franchise is going.
what do you mean the reunions not like the book
how cant they do that its a huge part!
He just said it was different, not excluded. We will just have to grit our teeth and trust Chris.
remember…they are filming in Italy. So, Edward will still go to the Volturi…we know that much. Bella will most likely save him. We still have Melissa Rosenburg! She wants to stay true to the book for the fans..and she wrote the script! Steph has our backs on this one…so we need to give back a little and at least try to trust Chris on this.
ok….I’m trusting Chris…trusting…breathing in, breathing out…..ok.
Now, I know that Rob can sometimes be a little confusing when talking about the movies. So, maybe this isn’t as big a deal as it seems. We don’t have any proof of the actual filming or anything to watch to assure us that everything is going to be okay. But, Stephenie has been on set, she most likely has seen the script, and Chris has said he was devoted to making this movie right. This is the hardest part of the movie making process for the fans. We dont know what’s going on, we havent seen a trailer, all we get is words from the middle men ans occasionaly Steph, chris, or the actors. The only thing I can compare this to that may help soothe the thoughts that run haywire about the meaning of this is the tree photo. When Twilight was filming, the photo of Rob and Kristen on their harnesses in the trees being hoisted up sent fans into a frenzy. “Vampires cant fly!” was being echoed throughout the forums. Now, with this cryptic little peice of information, everybody will freak out, and think the movie will be way different from the book. We dont know this…so we all might as well take a chill pill and trust that Stephenie will step in when something doesnt stay true to her book. She did so in Twilight, I’m sure she will do the same in New Moon…so we are trusting for now, correct?
NOOOOO I hate change. It better be a good change. The Bella/Edward reunite part is my favorite. Please don’t change it!!!!
This interview was…kinda confusing and strange. I want the reunion to be like how it is in the book. That’s my favorite part in the whole book since I’m totally Team Edward lol
We will just have to trust Robert on what he says about Bella and Edwards reunion…In any case as a loyal reader I know that the book is good just hope the movie is as well …It had better be or why bother going to Italy after all?
I looooooooooove Total Film it is my favorite movie magazine and every month I cough up the 10 bucks for it since it’s imported from the UK haha
It doesn’t sound like rob… he sounds like another person lol
the only good part was the christian bale reference. but uh…why are they doing a different reunion? ghostly, scary dream sequence and now a different reunion. i’m making a mental list.
the reunion is in italy (not the bedroom) it is different mostly because it is said to be scarier than it was in the book. So therefore, i think it WILL be better than the book … or so I hope. just got to wait and see.
You’re right the reunion was in Italy. What I should have said was that scene in the bedroom (for me) was more important because he explained why he left, why he can’t live without her and how much she means to him, and why he went to Italy (not because of guilt), pretty much the whole conversation. It was incredibly intense and, in my mind, was a big step in healing the damage caused by his leaving.
I know she had the epiphany on the way to his house, but the time in the bedroom was huge. I hope they included that part about him trying to convince her she was really awake.
I wish someone would score an interview with Chris Weitz. Maybe hold him prisoner and force details from him! That would be great!
The part where he explains himself to her (back in her bedroom in the book) and tells her he always loved her and can’t live with out her — that whole thing NEEDS to be romantic and sappy. It just needs to. We don’t love Edward because he’s imperfect and “dark” we love him because he’s ROMANTIC and makes us swoon. Please filmmakers (and Rob): realize that!
I agree…
Ok, I love Rob. However, with Twilight he said he wanted to change it so it wouldn’t be so “cheesey” and that Kristen and him fought to take things out of the script. Then there was never an I love you. I hope it isn’t like that for New Moon. It needs to be sweet and romantic at the end. And they better not leave out the proposal! I hope they know fans don’t want many changes..
One cheesy moment that even Stephenie thought should be left out was the lion/lamb line. Even she felt it was a mistake. Even in the book. It was something she wanted to change after the fact, but of course the book was published and it was too late. That the actors wanted to make changes, and we know Catherine made many on the spot just tells you the quality (of lack of it) of what Melissa Rosenberg produced. Very sad indeed.
why can’t they stick to the book? is that soooo hard, stephenie did the hard part for them. its almost like they don’t trust that our love for the real story is enough. its edwards and bellas story(relationship) we love, forget the scary, how about developing the funny banter, the easy way she loves his family, the actual stuff we loved but didn’t get in twilight movie. they totally left out their sense of humor, try developing something that is there instead of something thats not there. steph, take control if you can…..now they’re changing our story. stupid director, the books do not need enhancing.
I totally agree! Stephenie did some amazing things with the dialogue and characterisation of all the characters. Where was the sense of humour? Bella’s temper? the sense of romance? The sense of family within the Cullens? It wasn’t a lack of effects or budget restrictions that lessened the movie’s impact, I think it was deviating a little too far from the fundamental ‘feel’ of the book and the story. I really hope that they capture that a whole lot better in New Moon. I could cope with changes if they a) weren’t complete fabrications or departures from the book and b) were done with the overall intent of capturing the sense of love, passion and devotion that all the characters feel for each other. Here’s hoping.
Natasha, Natasha: I don’t know you but I feel that I do. You said everything I am thinking and said it very well. Being concise is just not my strong point, as evidenced by several posts on this thread.
Thanks creamy. Can sometimes pull something out of the hat if I care enough about it. Just don’t ask me to speak – much better when editing is available. lol!
why in the world be fans be happy with a reunion different from the book. Stephenie’s idea of a reunion was perfect enough…Im so freaked out now…
This was kind of a weird interview. But I liked none the less. I giggled a bit.
This was a very strange and different interview. It didn’t sound like Rob at all.And like others have asked already, why on earth would fans be happy if the reunion is different from the book? These last days I was excited for New Moon, but now I’m just really stressed out. Please let it be true to the book.
I totally agree with you. i was REALLY exicted but now im worried about how much they’ve seemed to change it
okay how could he say the ending is different but the fans will still like it?? i did a double take on that one! they cant change the reunion it was perfect it’s one of my favorite moments in ALL the books! PLEASE DONT CHANGE THE BOOK
I think what is so weird about this interview is that . . . the interviewer seems so forced in trying to crack jokes and ask questions. Like what’s with all the wine cracks? Were they trying to be funny? Flirtatious? It was so odd because of that. Other than that . . . I’m not really alarmed by what Rob said about the reunion being different. I don’t know what he means by that, but I’m not going to doubt just yet. For all we know he may not have meant exactly that.
strange.
Very funny interview. I just accept the Twilight movies as being completely separate from the books. Same thing I do with the Harry Potter series. The movie visuals will never match what is in your head. If the movie doesn’t stand up on it’s own watch it only once and return to the books, bad movies don’t diminish the books they come from. I have now seen Twilight probably 25 times because the girls put it on to relax to at slumber parties, or whenever they manage to ditch the boys, its a fun movie. But girls LOVE drama and I think they could be just as attracted to a dark and tearful New Moon especially with hunks to look at.
Good point. The books won’t change. I still get a warm fuzzy feeling reading them. My opinions on the film are so biased by my love of the books though. I want to love the films the same way. I have now watched Twilight about 20 times too. Sometimes to scour it for differences from the book, sometimes just for the story, sometimes just to have a good look at Rob and Kellan
. And I do like it. On it’s own as a movie. But is a little disappointing that book and film couldn’t feel just a little more similar. Wonder if Steph ever considered script writing???
OK, that was strange as strange can get. I measn all the details and stuff. Now I’m like starting to have second thoughts on Little Ashes if it’s going to be that serious. Oh who am I kidding, I’ll probably still go even if it gets too intense. LOL As an for the New Moon reunion don’t change anything please or make it better but don’t mess it up.
I’m thinking there is alot that could be changed in Italy part of the reunion that would not take away from the books.
Have faith people!
if i went on a date with rob i don’t think i’d ask him about his career on account of we’d be making out instead.
when does he (Edward) get beat up in the books?
my same question. Anyone care to answer???
If they change the reunion i will cryyyyy!!! I was looking forward to that part!!!!!!!
He’s talking about Jane using her power on him. I was watching ET and he elaborated on that….he doesnt mean like a fist fight.
Hello – where are the follow up-questions? Rob drops two bombshells here: that the reunion is different from the book and yet people will like it, and he gets “beat up” in New Moon. SAY WHAT???
Frustrating. I hope he was misquoted and meant to say that the reunion is NOT different from the book and so people will like it.
I think he meant he’d get beat up when jane mentally kicks his ass. I just want them to stick to the books as much as possible. I don’t like lots of artistic changes when the book is already so great. I understand some things make more sense for a movie, but the book version of the reunion would be GREAT in a movie. *sigh*
This is so true! Why boys go out with girls! here did you know that every night before you go to sleep there is one person of the opposite sex thinking of you. They want to kiss you, they want to be with you, they are always thinking about you, this is all true and not fake. If you repost this in 5 min the person that is longing to be with you will approach you within one month and ask you out or grab you and kiss you. but if you break this chain no one will like you or ask you out again for like 5 years…….. advice…. WHEN SHE SAYS YOU ARE CRAZY/WEIRD -SHE IS REALLY CRAZY ABOUT YOU! WHEN SHE ACTS SHY -SAY I LOVE YOU WHEN SHE RUNS AWAY FROM YOU – CHASE HER WHEN SHE PUTS HER FACE NEAR YOURS – KISS HER WHEN SHE KICKS & PUNCHES – HOLD HER TIGHT WHEN SHE IS SILENT – SHE’S THINKIN OF HOW TO SAY I LOVE YOU WHEN SHE IGNORES YOU – SHE WANTS ALL YOUR ATTENTION! WHEN SHE PULLS AWAY – GRAB HER BY THE WAIST AND NEVER LET GO WHEN YOU SEE HER AT HER WORST – TELL HER SHE’S BEAUTIFUL WHEN SHE SCREAMS AT YOU – TELL HER YOU LOVE HER BUT MEAN IT!! WHEN YOU SEE HER WALKING -SNEAK UP BEHIND HER GRAB HER BY THE WAIST AND GIVE HER A KISS WHEN SHE’S SCARED!!!!!!!!! -HOLD HER AND TELL HER EVERYTHING WILL BE OK CAUSE SHE’S WITH YOU WHEN SHE LOOKS LIKE SOMETHINGS THE MATTER – KISS HER AND TELL HER NOT TO WORRY WHILE SHE HOLDS YOUR HAND – PLAY WITH HER FINGERS WHEN SHE SAYS SHES COLD -SHE WANTS YOU TO HOLD HER TIGHT post this in the next 70 seconds and you will have the best day of your life this monday and the one u love will either… KiSS U,ASK U OUT.,CALL U, OR TEXT U……. …..OR BETTER……… REPOST THiS titled “WHy BOYS GO OUT WITH GIRLS…SO TRU
WTF?
or why some people shouldn’t comment…hello spam.
Yes….what on earth are you blabbing on about Grace?
So are any of you Moms? What do you plan to do about teen girls who want to see “Little Ashes”? I have been informed it is going to be “just like Napoleon Dynamite we are all going and so is everyone else”. I warned them that Rob plays a man who has a gay lover, I’m not escorting anyone who can’t buy a ticket on their own (mostly because I don’t want to go)But I just really can’t bring myself to get upset over it. So am I the only parent who doesn’t think it’s worth a battle?
I am a mom. But, my daughter is 18. I don’t think a decision on this movie would/should be different from anything else concerning your opinions and/or value system.
Yes, he has a gay lover. I knew this but haven’t read enough on the movie to learn what that means as far as performance. Will there by explicit gay love scenes? Will it just be hinted at? Are there other gay characters who do more, or less? Do they bring the gay factor into the story in a major way?
The answers to these questions and others will help you decide if this movie offends or entertains. Just because it is Rob shouldn’t override what you probably have in place as your personal value system.
When you say ‘teen girls’, are you talking 13 or 19? A big difference. How have you handled this topic before? That is what you should think about before you are in line buying tickets. Hopefully you will be familiar enough with your child’s friends to know if their parents would object. But, if you have even a tiny bit of doubt, I would speak to the parent directly, not just through their teen, and be sure they know the content. Also, what is the rating of this movie? Know that before you speak to the parents as well.
This is a bit off but not too much. When the movie “13″ (directed by Catherine Hardwicke and starred Nikki Reed, who also co-wrote it) was in theatres, I took my thirteen year old daughter to see it. It was a brutal picture of the teen drug scene, which included one of the teens with a hopelss mom. A very strong movie. Nothing happy or fun about it. I didn’t think it was cool, I wanted her to see some of what drugs really did to someone.
The bottom line of this epic post is, decide on the movie based on your values, leave the Rob Pattinson factor out of it. The end.
In regards to the interview…it was weird. It had a very copy and paste feel to it.
After reading everyones comments, I’ve decided not to take a look at the Clip. I think I’ll wait for the movie and expect some changes (hopefully maybe even more romantic). With all the hype out on New Moon, there’s gotta be a good reason for some false hype to be thrown out into cyberspace too.
Tean Edward!
I am not going ignore Grace. Anyway, they know why we love Edward. They have read and heard what the fans want. He didn’t say they were going to exclude anything, maybe they will make it better. I am sure they know what the fans want. It will be okay, we can’t take 7 months worrying, let’s trust Chris.
they better not f*** up new moon.
what do they mean by “new reunion” and “it’s a lot scarier”
if they’re going to do this movie they should do it right.
i REALLY hope that they stick to the book as much as they can
I want to trust CW, but all these are making things even harder.
Why would anyone think fans will be happy will changes? At least for the true fans anyway. Why must they always assume what fans like?
ok, that was weird.
that was a very……strange…..interview..and OMG if they change their reunion like too dirasticly ill be mad cuz this is exactly the thing i was worried about.that it will get to where they’ll start changing things but we just need to trust stephanie to stop them from changing it in a bad way so hopefully she wont let them do anything bad! Im rly worried now but hopefully it’ll be good……..just gota trust steph!
i will have to kill myself if they mess up new moon! wtf do they mean by “the renuion will be different”? i LIKE the new moon reunion!!!
different? um… it better be good as hell! and he’s doing hte deed with a man… i feel bad for him! anyways the interview was kinda confusing. he got up and left them???
i think it would be good to have a difference in the movie on the reuinon scene. you have to remember they are making a MOVIE here and not everyone who goes to see the movie will have read the book. they have to keep the audiance intrested, im not saying new moon is not intersting, just that there is a different experience when you read something and when you see somthing.
I just have to reply to this point: About everyone who goes to see the movie hasn’t read the book.
Of course that will be true, but the big, big majority of people who go see this movie will not only have read the book, but read it many times. Cried over it too. Twilight was the monster success it was because of the loyal fans. Fans who shelled out money time and again to see the movie multiple times. We have already bought a gazillion copies of the books, and then set records when buying the DVDs and who knows what else in the way of Twilight merchandise. And, the spending hasn’t stopped. The stories and characters that have already found a place in our hearts are what will keep the interest, not some clumsy juggling of the storyline.
We all have our favorite parts in the book. We all recognize that books and films are different mediums. Not everything translates well from the page to screen. That said, a good screenwriter can manage to bring to the film all the important parts, and much of the secondary story so the movie goer is not only satisfied, but fulfilled.
I have heard of people who saw the movie, and then read the books. Great. But not only do I believe they are a tiny minority, they aren’t/shouldn’t be the target audience. The proven fans should be the target. We love these characters just as Stephenie intended. We are the ones who will go many times to see this story come to life. We will be the ones to buy the DVDs and all the schlock trinkets that are offered.
I sincerely hope Summit wakes up to the fact of who the audience really is for this movie and those that follow. And I don’t mean teenies either.
That article is so fake!!!!! I can’t believe that they would say that he is mean and bossy on set. I would not believe this cheap writing!!!!!!
With reguard to the interview….
WHO could sit that close to Rob and not get a picture? There are no pictures of Rob (other than the usual movie scenes), so I tend to lean toward it was not real. Your a chick dining with Rob and you don’t get a picture.
Also, Rob is really long winded when he gets nervous (as stated in the GQ interview and evidenced elsewhere in his interviews) so I just don’t see it as real.
