Posted by Twilight_News - 03/04/09 at 01:04 pm

This just in from Entertainment Weekly:

“She made the movie, she wrote the book, and now Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke has a message for all her fans out there: Thanks for helping the movie and the book (and, really, everything else Twilight) hit No. 1! The filmmaker/author just found out that her Twilight: Director’s Notebook will be at the top of Sunday’s New York Times best-seller list, so she wrote a little note and shot a little video to commemorate the occasion.”

Well, good for her I guess. I think it’s all going to her head a little bit to be honest… and every time I see or hear her, I’m more glad she isn’t directing the sequels. I didn’t buy or read the Directors Notebook but to me it seems like she’s cashing in on Twilight.

  • Julie M. says:

Congrats Catherine! The Director’s Notebook is really cool. I bought it and loved it. It gives a whole different perspective on how Twilight was filmed.

  • Twifanatic Amanda says:

Catherine so freaking cool. And no “Sugary Giggles” having a successful movie is not going to her head, she’s thanking the fans because she appreciates that without us none of this would be possible. She will be directing more movies in the future and I can’t wait to see what else she does. She’s talented in her own way, just like every director and my Director’s Notebook is totally signed by her! eeeee!!!

  • CW says:

I bought Catherine’s Directors notebook and the kids really like it. My kids are into sports with no time for drama or studying music so they did not have a feeling for how a performance is put together. They found the book very interesting. Catherine has a very fresh and honest approach. She seems an expert at bringing along young talent.

That was Great!!! I love Catherine Hardwicke and thought that her Notebook was awesome! The whole artistic aspect of it was just amazing. I am so grateful to her for sharing all of those interestig facts, pictures, and ideas!

I loove the Director’s notebook. It’s very interesting. I’m buying a copy for my friend :)

  • Rachel A. says:

I like how she actually said “Ka-ching”…how tacky! I tend to agree with Sugary Giggles.

I am going to guess that this will be the closest thing to sucess that she will see, so I guess I can’t blame her for living it up.

I am glad Summit chose a new director that actually has the skills and talent to make NM great (even if you did like the Twilight movie you have to admit that it could have been a lot better).

  • Jenna says:

Honestly, I think it’s lame. She’s basically riding off of Stephenie’s coattails on this. So many authors work for years to get a book published, and Catherine just walks in and gets a best-selling book.

  • Alma says:

I think Catherine is so cute! She seems super cool, I bet she’d be a lot of fun to hang out with. Congrats to her for all her hard work & success!! Love you Catherine!

  • safina says:

Congrats to Catherine! I haven’t read her book, but it seemed nice enough.

  • Amanda says:

To those saying she is trying to make money off of Twilight, reality check she was the director! She was apart of the process, has every right to write a book about her experience and I for one was glad to see how the movie came together from her book. She had a name even before Twilight! She directed one of my favorite movies Lords of Dogtown. She is very talented, Your assessment of her isn’t correct or fair. She is a great director and I loved her enthusiasm for Twilight and how she brought it to life!

  • ciera says:

Graceful gesture from Catherine “thanking the fans” I have the book I love it. GO CATHERINE!!!

  • ciera says:

catherine is been working very hard in the film industry I never for a second would dare to call this sucess “Just walking in”
    Congratulation Catherine

  • Amanda says:

Catherine had a name before Twilight. She directed one of my favorite movies Lords of Dogtown. She is very talented and she isn’t “riding stephenies coat tails”! Are you kidding? She was the director, she has every right to make a book about her experience and I for one am glad she did so I could see the whole process. I really love the book and I’m glad it’s so successful! Way to go Catherine!

  • Twifanatic Amanda says:

Catherine had already established a set design career and then directing before she did Twilight, don’t one minute think she isn’t doing this for the right reasons. Thirteen, her first movie that she and Nikki Reed wrote together, won all sorts of awards. And Lords of Dogtown and the Nativity Story were great movies.

  • Jane says:

I believe the point trying to be made was in regards to her ‘just walking in’ and writing a book off of the back of a book written by someone else, without slaving away for years to write/publish, and because of the success of the original author/book, it goes to #1. It was not a jab regarding how long she had her directing/movie career, which we all ready know about thoroughly! How could we not?!?

Some people may view this as cashing in… and she may be seeing that she wanted to direct NM but was sort of forced out because she couldn’t do it her way. Twilight IS her baby. I don’t blame her for having pride in it. It is – to date – her claim to fame. It must be hard for her to let go…

I for one am glad/excited to see what Chris does with NM and am hoping it is not so… er, you know… I loved Twilight, but the actors/fans deserve better.

  • Kay says:

I’m honestly disgusted by this, I don’t think she did that great of a job with Twilight to begin with, and now it feels as if shes taking advantage of the Twilight fans with this book. She knows fans of the book will buy this because the are dedicated, but really, I don’t think she deserves the money she will be making off of it. The movie had SO much potiental to be great, the actors were a good fit, but the movie was lacking so much, she did horrible…sorry. I really thought Twilight was a bit of a let down to be honest. Watching it with my boyfriend, I had to explain constantly why things were happening when they did. The glares edward gives Bella in the cafeteria could in no possible way be understood by someone who has not read book beforehand, and the meadow scene barely had any significance..I found myself asking why they even bothered to put it in there. Catherine may be a great director, but I wouldn’t add her to the list of reasons for Twilights success, it’s success in the box office is ultimately weighed heavily on the books success alone. I’m truely excited to see what chris brings to the saga though…we can only hope for something more satisfying.
