Drew Barrymore Interested in Eclipse

If any other news outlet other than Entertainment Weekly had published this, we would have laughed it off. EW rarely goes out on a limb. There sources are impeccable. So, what do you think, would you like to see Drew Barrymore direct Eclipse?

What is interesting is that when EW asked Summit and Drew Barrymore’s rep’s for a comment this is what they got, “Neither Summit nor Barrymore’s reps would comment for this story.”  It’s interesting that front Barrymore’s camp at least there wasn’t a flat out denial.  Interesting…very…very interesting.

I like drew barrymore, but I do not trust her directing. Shes new at it and has very little experience, and I do not see her having the vision it would take for a movie like eclipse. Yes catherine was new but she did have the vision and the creative abilities to pull it off.

  3. Jessica Luu says:

tw07: Yeah, I realized I shouldn’t have posted that afterwards, ’cause it’s irrelevant to this what was posted about Drew, haha.

I like her as an actor. I don’t know if I want her directing, though.

  4. Emk says:

I will boycott the movie if she directs it. This is too much-firstly, does Drew have ANY experience directing? Does she even KNOW anything about the series (besides the fact that Twilight=money). And I think that Twilight (true, this was inevitable with the wild movie success) is getting MUCH too generic. I loved that the first movie had little-known actors in it…but now? Rumors like this and the Jonas Brothers wanting to be on the New Moon soundtrack…they drive me insane.

  5. Potch says:

Actually, drew has directed and produced. She comes from one of the most famous movie making families in history and owns her own production company. She grew up on movie sets in front of and behind the camera and probably knows more than most directors out there. I think she would do a great job.

  6. cally87 says:

Maybe as Tanya, or one of the Denali coven perhaps.

  7. switzgal says:

WHAT??? NO WAY!! I do not want an inexperience director to direct my favorite book of the series. Summit wisen up!!!

  8. shavei7 says:

NO. Absolutely NO. Go practice your directing skills on some other movie.

  9. chloe says:

Um..NO! She’s an inexperienced director. I read somewhere she’s directed one movie. That’s it. I don’t want an inexperienced director to mess up eclipse, that would just not be good at all!

  10. Vamp_angel says:

Meh, she’d seem alright if she did.

  11. Helena says:

    um k no….
i think (like a lot of people here)
that she’d be good as a vampire but directing..gosh how many ways can you say extreemly bad idea?

  12. roxanne says:

HELL TO THE NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOT A DIRECTOR DO NOT TAKE A CHANCE ON IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  13. CW says:

NOOOOOO!!!! I don’t want any attention seeking “stars” in any of the Twilight movies. Get people who can actually act, who fit the characters and who do not need feel justified to hog the camera. I also do not want to see Vanessa H as Leah or any one else! I mean wouldn’t she just be an adorable Leah?! PUKE! What part of this does Hollywood and Director Chris not get? We just want a nice clean depiction of the story. He can go indulge is arrested adolescent male fantasy regarding Madonna, Vannesa, Drew and for that matter Dakota and any other starlets on American Pie three.

  14. Rachel says:

    NO!!!!!!!!!!

  15. CW says:

Potch, Drew gave us “Charlies Angles” Do we really need a repeat of Drew’s movie instincts? NO!

  16. Wendy says:

so I was talking to my friend about this and I think we both agreed that we couldn’t care less about WHO directed the movie, obviously our concern is the QUALITY of the film. I’m sure this is just a rumour to get everyone talking though.
and LMAO @ CW, as much as I love Charlie’s Angels I don’t know about that…

  17. Lizzy says:

Okay so I love Drew and even if she did a terrible job how can they ruin it more than they already have????

  18. Krista says:

Hmmm…Really? Drew? She’s a fun actress but I think that a film like Eclipse really isn’t in her fortay. Yes, she’s done romance and drama and little bit of horror (Firestarter and Scream if you didn’t believe me) but I would rather have someone with more experience. I’m not knocking Drew, but Catherine H. directed Twilight and Chris Weitz is directing New Moon. Why would Summit suddenly decide to have an inexperinced director helm Eclipse? I’d rather have Gore Verbinski myself (Pirates of the Carribbean)…I’m just saying…

  19. urcoolcarrie says:

Actually, I think it would be cool to see what she could do. If she read the books and really loves them, having another girl up there could be a good thing. I wouldn’t mind it at all. :)

  20. Alu Rathbone says:

I think that its cool that Drew Barrymore wants to direct… well if the rumor is true…

But I’d rather see her in the movie… thats my thing…

Who ever directs the movie… has to be good!

  21. Alu Rathbone says:

    # Liz Says:

well she has a lot of experience with the business…

I completely agree with that statement!^

    SHE IS FREAKING HOLLYWOOD ROYALTY!

Her fathers side of the family has been in showbiz since the 1800′s! Her grandfather, and his siblings were the first actors in Hollywood! She has a ton of experience…

  22. Bneff says:

…Drew Barrymore? Direct? You’ve got to be kidding me, if this is true I think I might cry!

  23. Jessica says:

I hope that she also has her production company in on it. I think the next installment could use a little more female touches.

  24. Wolf Girl says:

Not sure about her directing, but I do know she is a partner in a production company who put out DONNIE DARKO. Most of the other films sucked, but Donnie Darko was super good.

  25. Joel says:

I’m pretty sure Drew’s production company did “Donnie Darko” and that movie was soooo good!
and that movie was a fantasy type film. I think alot of you guys are quick to judge and i think she knows way more about the busness than most of you think she does. If she does end up being involved in Eclipse,I hope that you guys wait to see how the movie turns out before you guys set your mind that Eclipse wouldnt turn out as you hoped it would.

  26. Misfit says:

She has only directed two projects one for TV and one that is still in post production. Can we say NO lets all calm down and get a real director thanks.

    Misfit.

  27. Lucia says:

Joel–totally agree. Let’s hope if this is true, it will be on the same wavelength as Donnie Darko, and give her a chance. She’s a smart woman.

  28. Lucia says:

Joel–totally agree. Let’s hope if this is true, it will be on the same wavelength as Donnie Darko, and give her a chance. She’s a smart woman.

  29. Lesslie says:

No Way! I don’t think personally with her only having one movie and a tv show under her belt for directing that she’s ready for something as big as twilight.

How about Peter Jackson? someone with a little more experience in THESE kinds of films btw.

maybe she can go back to directing and producing movies like Never been kissed and Summit leaving her out of this project…

all these weird changes make me nervous…just nervous…

  30. Emily W says:

I love Drew. And she has directed before, she has her own company- Flower Films I think. But to my knowledge- unless she did wokr on Charlies Angels- she’s enver directed an action film. And thats what would concern me.

  31. Twilight Nymph says:

I don’t know, I mean the article says she has directed before, but it still makes me shaky. I say go with an experienced director, yet I can’t really say no not her cuz I’ve never seen her work. Yet, I agree, I don’t think she has experience with action films and we all know there’s a lot of action in Eclipse. This is what I got on her movie and it doesn’t seem to have much action:A misfit girl named Bliss (Ellen Page) is constantly being pressured to enter beauty pageants by her mother, so she joins a roller derby league instead.

  32. Amanda says:

I have to say, some of you are a little judgemental. The Barrymore family is very accomplished and well respected. Who knows, if it did turn out to be true she could surprise us.

  33. Vannya says:

wow as a director…….i guess it will be ok
and im saying that because im basing on the movies shes done……they are all good….so….it will be ok

  34. Anna says:

@ twilightlexicon: please don’t make simple grammar mistakes such as confusing “there” and “their”.

  35. Johanna says:

I didn’t even know she was a director. She would be great in a role in Eclipse though. She could play a newborn vampire, but as a director IDK. I guess we would have to see what she has worked on in the past, if anything.

  36. I personally love the idea of DB Directing eclipse….I just saw “He’s Just not that into you” she helped direct that and that movie was amazing…..

  37. Potch says:

CW, she also produced Ever After, which was an absolutely beautiful love story.

  38. Audrey/Edward says:

Eeeeh, no offense to Ms. Barrymore, but she’s kind of a weirdo. Like in real life, and has she had much experience directing? Not really. At least, not enough to make Eclipse into a great movie. Or at least semi-ok.

  39. mell says:

youch! so much bashing over something that may not be true. sheesh. remember all the hate when Rob was cast, now everyone fawns over him like he is the best thing since sliced butta!!

anyway, Drews been around the movie business for a loooong time, so she probably knows a thing or two. Heck, maybe she could do a better job than
    c.hardwick did with Twilight.

yeah, eclipse will be a big undertaking for a newbie, why not give her a chance? you have to start somewhere…right?

  40. Rockin'It says:

When I first started reading the post, I was having my doubts as to if I would like her in any role of Eclipse… the when you said DIRECT, my only reaction could be “No. Just… No.

  41. Jacob For The Win says:

Drew has directed one picture, “Whip It!”, about a woman’s roller derby team. It’s still in post-production.

  42. Rachel says:

No, we already had one director with no special effects experience ruin the first movie…please stick to a safe and known director (if that happens to be a male, so be it).

  43. Erika says:

    NOOOOOOO!!!!!

  44. KAREN says:

ONLY IF SHE ABSOLUTELY LOVES THE BOOKS! IF NOT PLEASE, THE LAST SCRIPT SUCKED BUT CATHERINE HARDWICKE ROCKED WITH WHAT SHE HAD, AND THEY HAVE THE SAME SCRIPT WRITER THIS TIME, SO THEY BETTER HAVE A DEVOTED DIRECTOR.

  45. CW says:

Please! Drew Barymore has spent her life seeking male approval starting with her Playboy pictures and continuing with “Charlies Angles”. Twilight Saga is a female oriented story, can we have a woman who actually slants it towards women? I don’t need Drews needy male approval seeking finger prints all over it. Twilight succeeded because it is outside of the norm of schlock that Hollywood dumps on women. If you dump a load of Hollywood schlock all over New Moon or Eclipse then the Twilight spell will be broken. The Charlies Angleization of Twilight, Noooooo!

  46. Erin says:

Dang! I can’t believe the amount of hatred and anger being unleashed about this story! This is why people look at fans of Twilight like they’re crazy! And not in a good way!

As many have stated she is the closet thing to royalty that we have in this country. She grew up on movie sets! She knows more about acting, directing, and producing than most people who currently are working in the industry!

And lets for a second talk about this new phenomenon of “We want unknowns!”. Ok … can we all take a moment to remember the backlash that Rob Pattinson received when he was first announced? No one thought that this relatively unknown actor should do the part! So why is that now everyone wants only unknowns? I say, if they are the best choice for the part, they should get it.

Back to Ms. Barrymore … I think she would be great as the director. Yes the story is primarily centered around the action, but there is also a lot of romance and intimate moments between characters. I think she would do a fantastic job!

*gets down off of soap box*

  47. CW says:

Drew did not direct “Ever After”. As far as the Barrymore family being in theater and films for years, So you think directing is genetic? I am sure that the film schools turn out classes of female directors every year who will never get a fair shot in Hollywood because they don’t have connections and because of the profound sexism. Why not interview 25 of those women and pick one.

  48. CW says:

So in your mind Erin anyone who has an opinion of Drew baised on her productions and behavior is hate filled. Wise up. I wouldn’t waste my time hating Drew and having had the previews of Charlies Angels shoved down my throat when I went to the theater I also make a point of not seeing movies she is associated with. No hate, No misguided awe, No money spent on her movies.

  49. That is laughable. That is all I am going to say.

  50. Love. Bite says:

Woah. Woah. WOAH. Hold the phone! Drew DIRECTS? When did this happen?

And why Eclipse? I mean, I love ya girl, but you’d better stay the HECK away from that movie.
