MTV has a post up about speculation of New Moon casting. There have been rumors circulating on the Internet for a month on who will play Leah Clearwater. Now granted, we haven’t seen Melissa Rosenberg’s script, but keep in mind, however that these might just be rumors since in the books Leah actually appears in Eclipse and is only mentioned in passing in New Moon. We’re actually thinking that Volturi casting rumors might be more credible at this point. MTV is also covering New Moon actors in the video clips found here.
Yahoo Movies has New Moon listed as one of the most anticipated movies of 2009.
FILM Gecko Film Gecko is confirming what we have long suspected with the upcoming New Moon movie, and has been backed up by Lana Veenker (who cast the local parts for Twilight), "The L.A. casting director has been hired, but their information will not be posted. I’m guessing that’s because of the number of unsolicited calls and submissions they’d receive." In other words folks unless you are an established industry professional with representation, there’s no point in sending in your resume for …fill in name of character here. There is no casting cattle call at this point. No news on extras yet, which typically will be a local cast.

i agree Q’orianka Kilcher should play leah, she looks the part. camilla belle, maybe not so much? i can’t imagine anyyy of the disney people to play in anyyy of the movies.. vanessa hudgens?!?!? GAG!
I think they can find a better Leah out there. After all the disney stuff I cant really see either one of them playing her. I guess in the end hopefully they’ll make the right choice.
Here’s something to think about for chemistry – even though Tanya isn’t in New Moon, wouldn’t Camilla be a great Tanya – too bad they would have to have her dye her hair blonde.
Please no Disney actresses! And no Camilla Belle especially – her eyebrows are annoying and hideous. Leah is Native American – they should be able to find a suitable actress.

ppl ppl ppl i understand that casting some disney stars may sound like a disaster and personally you guys have some funny comments but just because they work for disney doesnt mean they will act like that yeah like brenda song says yay me all the time, so dont criticize them just cuz they work with disney i want to work with disney when i am older but i am not happy happy all the time. so give the disney ppl some credit.

it’s not that i have anything against disney actors.. it’s just that i don’t think any of those girls are right for new moon. there aren’t any asian girls in the book… and i just can’t see vanessa hudgens or selena gomez in it. just because they have more money for this movie doesn’t mean they have to get all of these high paid actors. i just rrrrreally hope they don’t mess this movie up.

just because there aren’t any asian girls in the book, doesn’t mean they can’t add any to the movie. What if she’s not even playing leah? Maybe they’re considering her for a different role.

i agree with allisonlovesedward, i don’t have anything against disney actors (maybe just vanessa hudgens!) but i can’t picture in my head any of them that would be good for any character. and allisonlovesedward… yeah there weren’t any asian characters in the book, but didn’t they cast justin chon (asian!) who plays eric? & i think he did a great job!

They changed “Breaking Dawn” to Eclipse as the 3rd movie. Just a typo.
Anyway, while I like HSM, I don’t think that Hudgens or Song should be cast as the werewolves or anyone in New Moon. Maybe as an extra or calefare.
They are just not suitable at all, at least to me. I can’t see Leah’s personality in them.
And I like Leah as a minor character. She is a great person, even if she’s bitter. I don’t want her character to be ruined.

i don’t have anything against disney characters. but have you ever seen any of them in a serious role? in a serious movie? if they’re in any i guess i just haven’t seen them but i’ve only seen them doing disney stuff. it’s hard for me to picture them in new moon. thats all. and if brenda song isn’t being considered for leah, what other character would she play? an italian vampire? nooo. nothing against asians here. sheesh. ceecee- i think justin chon did a good job, too.
No Disney popstar tween queen should play Leah. they should get a a little known actress thats whats awsome about twilight. no one was super famous. maybe they should even do open castings like what they did with jacob
I had heard that they were only doing 3 movies and I completely agree, they can do Eclipse as written then tack Breaking Dawn on the end, which can be easily condensed into like 1/2 hr. for the wedding, the pregnancy and the change… then they can really knock out a stellar finale with the gathering of the vamps and the final confrontation with the Volturi. Now jumping way ahead… I wonder how they will portray Nessie? Complete CGI???
I also initially thought they MUST replace Taylor as Jacob for N.M and Eclipse because of the physical changes he goes through, but then after seeing Taylor in the role, I think emotionally he is perfect, so I would be more than willing to overlook the physical deficit if they can’t completely adjust for it. He has the most KILLER smile….•swoon• I know… a smile does not a werewolf make… but it sure HELPS! LOL!

Also, as far as whether or not to use Disney actors… I think they need to focus on casting actors who first and foremost LOOK indian (regardless of nationality) and who can also accurately portray the part. I don’t care who they are or what they’ve done before (young actors have to start somewhere!) I only care that they can do the job at hand CONVINCINGLY!!!!! That being said, I don’t think Vanessa looks quite right.
I will be anxiously waiting like everyone else to see what Chris does with it. I was bummed when Catherine didn’t come back, but at the same time there were a few things I would have liked to see differently… (like I was TURBO disappointed that they completely deconstructed the Meadow Scene into like 3 or 4 different scenes when that is the PIVOTAL moment of the entire series!!!!) So I am actually stoked to see what a new director can do, plus his CGI experience from GoldCompass will be crucial.
New Moon is actually my favorite book of the 4, with Eclipse in a tight 2nd place. Love Edward dearly – but I am SO Team Jacob! Now I just hope and pray that Steph publishes Midnight Sun and they do a movie for that one too. I love Twilight from Bella’s perspective, but I think Edward’s story is infinitely more exciting than Bella’s. If you haven’t read the rough draft – it is spectacular.

Q’orianka Kilcher all the way! She is only eighteen and will be 19 in Feb so she is perfect for the age and perfect for the role. I think her being cast as either Leah or Emily would make everyone happy, so it better happen!!!!!
I beleive the main reason they shouldn’t cast disney actors is because they are accustomed to being apealing to younger viewers, and most of the disney actors are childstars, that would better suit the Phoenix scenario then forks,
Also I cannot wait till they announce who will be cast as the Volturi!I am also curious about where they will be shooting the Volterra scenes.
I agree with Sevyn, They did a great job casting real native americans in the first movie, they should try to do the same for Leah and Emily, I have nothing against Disney Actors but think about it this way they attract a younger crowd, kids are going to be thinking this is a disney movie..parents are going to be upset..uhhh all the drama…

Oh my god! I am so glad they decided to keep Jacob on for New Moon! I am so happy! =D And I agree with Cladia. You bring Disney Characters into it and it’s going to give the wrong impresion. NOt that I(underline) have anything against them as well. But think, if you had someone like Zac Effron as Edward…I think I would be WAYYYYY upset. I didn’t want him turning Twilight into “Twilight Musical” -_-
I have to agree with you about the Disney actors. It isn’t that they aren’t good actors, but rather the tag-a-long audience and the expectation they bring with them. I wasn’t thinking in that respect before – I’m with ya’ll now!
I think Q. Kilcher would make a better Emily. She seems too gentle and looks to soft to be hard-edged Leah. I just think forward to Breaking Dawn when Leah goes in the Cullens house in dirty clothes and leafy hair chewing Bella out for torturing Jacob – I just can’t envision Q. doing that! LOL
I have seen the previews for ”Push” and I think Camilla Belle could be a bad-A Leah. Megan Fox could probably be edgy enough too, but Camilla looks way more indian.
I think they should cast that kid off of wizards of waverly place as “Alec”.. He has really sharp features!

I’ve heard many a rumors that Lucy Hale is playing Leah, and that Vanessa Hudgens is, but for the recorded fact that neither of them would look decent with a short boy-cut, I do believe that these rumors need to stop speculating. NOBODY WANT’S A HORRID DISNEY FACE IN THESE MOVIES!!! That’s a given, because we want key actors who will do the job and get it done correctly, and with the way that disney has been presenting things to the media, it’s all very half-assed and hardly written, it’s as though all the actors were told to do improv, and in the Twilight movies, we want THE BEST not the retarded.
Give the disney actors a chance to prove themselves. It is the crappy disney script you don’t like them protraying not a character in the Twilight series. I mean a Harry Potter character was the last person I would have picked as Edward and he took the role and did wonderful things with it.
Hi Everyone!! I just wanted to ask if anyone noticed that there is an enourmous flaw in the Twilight movie!! Since in the 1st movie, Harry clearwater is killed by Victoria, James, and Laurant…How willl the story line of the New moon movie be effected?? In the book: When Edward calls Bella and Jacob answers and tells him, “charlie’s at the funeral” — Jacob is telling him about Harry’s funeral(he dies of heartattack)…but then Edward decides to go to the Volturi b/c HE thinks it’s Bella’s funeral. How can this ever be fixed?? Just wanted to throw that out there.

I totally agree about the disney stars thing. I don’t have any problems with them or anything, but they all just seem WAY too kiddish to play in a movie like New Moon. When I picture Disney Channel…well, it’s all happy happy and pre-teen stuff. The Twilight series is so much more mature than the Disney Channel. Seriously…get people that nobody knows who have REAL talent and let them give themselves a chance to build up their acting resume.
