  2. Malice says:

WOW!! I used to go to that same hotel every year for Akon (Anime convention) Its a big hotel all right. I wasn’t planning on going to dallas for akon in 2009, but now it looks like i’ll be saving my money for Twicon!! woohoo!!!!

  3. Malice says:

as for hotel prices… there’s the indigo hotel which is pretty close and it’s about $99 per night. The Dallas Plaza Hotel is CHEAP if your reserve through the internet. Its only $46 per night. I think both are less than a mile away too.

  4. Claudia says:

OMG!!!!!! I can see the Sheraton Hotel in Dallas outside my bedroom window!!!!!! And the dates are right before I go on my 3 week tour of Europe, I’M SO HAPPY!!!!!!!!

  5. nicole says:

I have never been to a twilight convention, was planning on checking out the one this summer in Forks… I live here in San Antonio also..maybe some of us Twilighters can car pool and make it a road trip ,save on some of the expenses. Just an idea, planning on taking my sister and best friend along..any one interested email me: Molinan2@uthscsa.edu

  6. Becka says:

I just wanted to clarify — the $139 does include up to 4 people in the room. Somebody stated that it is only for one person, which is entirely incorrect.

  7. nicole says:

I meant a road trip to the one in Dallas:)

  8. Jennylee says:

Even the programs in the event don’t interest me. Why do I want to pay 255 dollars to listen to people talk about twilight in the media, or look at pictures of the cars in the book and someone tell me “The engine on this car goes really fast.” *crowd: “oooooooo”*…..

Sorry guys but ALL the programs sound boring. It’d be different if the cast and SM all agreed to be there. But I’m not paying my good money (and it’s non-refundable, by the way) for a gamble like that if the WS is already saying that the celebrities can cancel at any time.

Even the ball isn’t up to my speed. If I were still in middle school or high school, then sure, I’d be in to it, but a bunch of girls dressed to the frills, looking like vampires, loud music pumping, and in a banquet hall with no guys (well … I’d have to give SOME guys credit … I’m sure there’d be a few) in sight … not my version of a “Ball.” We’d all be dressed up with no place to go and looking rather silly.

    I.am.not.dazzled.

  9. Tina says:

Too bad I can’t go :( I might be moving to Texas (more than likely I won’t) but by the time I find out it’ll be too late…

  10. Tamalyn says:

Hey, SM updated her site and Myspace blog with news about the TRAILER!!!! EEEEEEE!!!!

Looks like october 9 is our lucky day.

  11. Whinewhinewhine says:

People are such whiners, srsly. Have you not gone to a convention before? It’s pretty normal that registration fees are non-refundable because they need to use the money right off the bat to get the event going.

Not being able to promise that the cast or Steph will be there is also normal too. The conventions that are charging anywhere from 300 to like…700 some dollars (just for a day) can’t even promise their guests will show.

Considering registration just opened they have more details about their event than the other conventions who for the longest time had zero information about what was going to be there and possibly who.

Stop whining. All it does is make the fandom look bratty, but then again some people have nothing better to do than complain while those who are happy with things sit idly by and keep their mouths shut. :/

  12. ana says:

Dallas??? Ahhh why not Chicago or something? :(

  13. Catie says:

Whinewhinewhine: well said. i think everyone that’s angry has obviously never been to a convention before and were expecting some super glamourous event with steph and the entire cast of the movie to show up for free.

there’s no location that would please everyone, and a traveling tour would make the registration costs about a $1000-2000 more expensive. i’m a college student from nebraska so i understand being broke and worrying about traveling expenses, but i love the books and i’m finding a way to make it work.

the $255 dollars is understandable and relatively cheap compared to other conventions. i know the australia one is $40 basically just to get in for one day with no perks, and the next lowest ticket price is $450. did you some people honestly expect special guests to just travel to dallas and make appearances for free and for the sheraton to just let twicon take over the hotel and convention center for 4 days? in my opinion we got lucky and i can’t wait for twicon 2009.

  14. MissmyEdward says:

I love EvilIguanaProductions. ^_^ They’re so funny. If you haven’t seen their Twilight spoof, you really should. It gave me many lol’s.

  15. Catie says:

Is anyone from the nebraska/iowa/kansas/south dakota region going?

  16. Rachel says:

    Really?
EIP is going to be there?
    *sob*
    They’re like my idols!

  17. safina says:

I just feel like screaming. This morning I checked the Lex for five minutes then I hurried to go to school. All the way there I was only thinking about the convention. How much far is Dallas from Montreal?I better not think about that.

Even though I knew the convention wouldn’t take place in Canada I’m still disappointed.

I could never afford to pay.If college students can’t, how could a high school one?I really don’t have any savings since I’m not even at the legal age to work(14 years old).

I could go (*in my dreams*) if my parents ever agree to give me $2500 as a birthday gift and allow me to go there alone (never!).I don’t want to take anyone with me.Not even friends.

Anyways those who can go, enyoy!

  18. Mary Alice Cullen says:

Thats tons of money. I can only afford the books not this!!!

  19. Belloo says:

seth updated stephenies site about the last movie trailer!!!!!! It comes out next week!!!!

  20. Enith A. says:

I can totally afford this with one weeks allowance, so i’m totally gonna be there !!!!! : )

  21. McKenzie says:

I can’t wait finally something in Dallas! Now I just have to talk my mom into shelling out the cash for it…

  22. edward1_0_1 says:

i live so close 2 dallas is not even funny

  26. Alu Rathbone says:

I think I’m going to have Twi Prom or Twi Homecoming next year… In the Chicago area… to be held at The Carlisle in Lombard IL… it will be cheaper then the Twi Con

  27. kimberley says:

i’d love to attend this, but it’s just not possible with the amount of money this would end up costing. Not to mention i’m already saving money to go to England next august. D: oh well. *crosses fingers for something cool to come to canada*

  28. Twifanatic Amanda says:

I will go if some other friends go, this is a lot of money, but I have it and I’ll spend it if I don’t go alone XD

  29. katie says:

    sigh
guess i wont be going they should do something twilightly in ALL the states because i know for a fact that there are twilight fans in EVERY state =)
even thought i live in Abq New Mexico i still wont go its to much money that i do not have

  30. rachel says:

    Really?
    Evil Iguana productions?
    *tear*
    WHY CANT I GO?

  31. chris says:

Did you know that the fee for registration has to cover the cost of paying the cast and keynote speakers to come to the event? They have to pay for not only the guests to travel and stay in a really expensive suite, but an appearance fee and a really pricey autographing fee. It can be like, 10 dollars per autograph. They have already said that they have more guests interested, but that they can’t announce them yet! Everybody be patient! It’s too soon for the cast to promise to be there because any of them could get hired for another gig at any time and have to cancel. I think it’s hilarious that everyone is complaining about the price. Hello?! It covers some meals and 4 DAYS. That’s less than a lot of cons if you break it down per day. If you start saving a little bit now, by the time the con comes around, you’ll have money to go. Put away some money and save!

  32. Jay says:

I’m right there with Chris. 255 sounds a lot but it’s basically nothing for all the fun stuff we get! Just the Masque Ball itself makes it worth it for me, it will be so much fun!!! And I don’t think it will be just girls there and even if, I don’t know about everybody else but I can have fun without guys! And yes, the movie will be out on DVD, but when do you get to see it with hundreds of other people who love it just as much as you do? And if you think about the hotel room price, if 4 people share a room that’s 35 bucks a night. In the Sheraton! That’s like almost nothing!!! I’m constantly broke, but I have registered and will be saving to cover hotel and travel because I don’t want to miss this! I can’t wait for July 30st to get here cause I know it’ll be great, I’m sure there will be a few more special guests by that time for those who are really concerned about that, but even without I think they have a killer program! I am a little upset with all those who are so negative about this! I’m sure that a lot of planning and time and passion went into putting this together! So thanks guys and I’ll see you in July!

  33. dsolo says:

I have been to many fan run conventions and also run some, and this is priced way too high. Professional cons with the stars there don’t charge this much. I would only pay this much if they guaranteed the cast and SM, otherwise it’s not offering that much. I’m really disappointed, because I wanted to go to a Twilight convention. As for location, Texas is in the middle of the country (just way south) and Dallas is a major airline hub – not a bad choice.

  34. Lolo says:

Wait let me get this straight… Its guna be in Texas??? Really? DANG IT!!!

  35. Miranda says:

Yes!!!! I live 1/2 mile from where it’s going to be!!! Finally, something to do (next year….)

  36. icky vicky says:

Good 4 u, Miranda! NO FRICKIN’ WAY!!!!!!

  37. chris says:

the con IS MANAGED AND OWNED by a professional firm, you guys!!! I dont know why everone keeps saying it is fan run!!! Go to the About Us page of the site and you will see that a firm is handling the event and guest booking!!!

  38. Audrey/Edward says:

I am glad it’s in Texas, since I live not too far from the Sheraton. But $255? That’s a lot of money to someone like me who has no job. I’m hopefully getting a job soon, but am I supposed to pay for my friends to go, too? And we’re all under 21, so how would that work? My mom wouldn’t pay $255 for her ticket thing just so she could chaperone my band and I. Overall, a good idea, but I think this is out of a lot of fans price range.

  39. delory.007 says:

holy man i had no idea there were so many Twilight fans out there, like honestly. i am really very surprised that this many guys are into this kind of stuff.

  40. nomoretears says:

DUDE!!!!! I just registered, and THEY HAVE A PAYMENT PLAN!!!! You can pay half now and half later. I only had to pay $127.50 when I registered and the rest will be deducted later. Now it’s even easier for me to go since I have time to save. AUGH! TWICON ROCKS!!!!

  41. lilly says:

Alright guys, let’s take a look at this. TwiCon is the first conference of it’s kind. Somebody already mentioned above all the things that the registration fee has to cover. Now let’s look at some of the other conferences out there, like DragonCon or ComiCon. Sure, they might charge less, but look at the numbers. Those events have more than 10,000, ComiCon even more than 100,000 attendees daily. Special guests who appear there often do so because it’s a great opportunity to reach their fans and others get some underwriting from projects they have running outside of the film/TV show they are working on at the time. Also, these conferences don’t pay for 1st class RT plane tickets but pay only hotel and per day. And those huge events get great rates because of all the money that is at play, lots of big sponsors, etc. Like I said, Twicon is a first-time event, they don’t have any underwriters covering costs that can be written off. Most of the expenses need to be covered through the registration fee. And now they have this payment plan which I think is a great idea for people who don’t have the whole amount right away because it enables them to register anyways. I really think that a lot of thought went into this and they try to make it as affordable as possible for everybody.

  42. Christa says:

    I live in Texas!

  43. Catherine says:

I would love to go, but I”m in Cailf. Do you think that maybe they could have one in S.F or S.J? Just a thought. Maybe I will go, but it’s to much money. O well. I’ll work it out.

  44. Jennifer says:

This worked out great for me. no offense though. i will be in dallas the 24- 29 of july anyways. yea!!! As soon as i found out i got tickets. the whole thing meet and greet and all, i couldn’t be happier. i would have never been able to go if i wasn’t already going to be there. actually now that i think about it, it was probably wise to do it there. The thing i am going to is an expo of actors and singers and models. hmmm all of those big corp. companies and guys are going to already be in dallas. hmm that was probably it.

  45. lindseyy says:

OMG C MON COME 2 NYC PLZ PLZ PLZ!!!

  46. Edwardbitespillow says:

Esme…i agree with you… and to however bought their ticket….have fun…its so sad i have no possible way to spend $235 for a convention….maybe next time(if its cheeper)

  47. Mallory says:

does anyone know if the special guests are actually going to the ball?
or you just get to meet them before?

  48. NekoNeko says:

I think that the TwiCon people should have started smaller & built up a larger base group before trying to out-con everyone else. I’m not saying that there isn’t a fanbase in Dallas, I’m saying that as a brand spanking new con they should start small & work their way up. Being in a HUGE convention center & inviting umpteen big name stars isn’t a financially sound way to go, especially since they can’t guarantee their appearance. (And even if they don’t show some stars have contracts that let them keep the fees.) Since they are a new con & their stability isn’t guaranteed, the stars will charge more. That’s a stone hard fact. (I’ve some con experience.)

As an experienced con-goer of many different things I’ve attended new cons. The ones that started out modestly & slowly built up to the large con halls & stars are the ones that stay around the longest. As for the con’s reactions to the artist’s alley, that’s stupid. I can understand them not wanting to sell Twi fan-art b/c of copyrights, but the artists should still be able to sell anything that is original & not copyrighted by the powers that be.

TWILIGHT FANS!! DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY ON THIS SO QUICKLY! I’ve just got a really nasty feeling that this con is being too ambitious & that it’ll flop. Maybe some cons are expensive, but there’s no reason that this one should be. It’s not in some foreign country where there’s only 2-3 cons in the entire country. (The US is very con-friendly.) Unless they’re giving every con-goer a big bag of goodies, I wouldn’t pay $255 for a ticket. I’d rather go to a con that’s cheaper & more guaranteed to be worth the money. $255 to squeal with a bunch of other fans & stare at a bunch of stars? I can do that on the internet… for FREE!
