With regards to the events of the Twilight fandom recently, we, the administrators of several websites, have heard your pleas requesting something be done to support Stephenie. So, to answer the question of "what can we do" that we have heard repeatedly over the last twenty-four hours, we propose the following list of suggestions. For those of you graphics people who want to do something, we have another idea. We are going to make a virtual quilt. Send a 200 X 200 support graphic to twilightthanks@gmail.com and we will work it into a virtual support quilt. Make sure you put "QUILT" in the subject line.
On Saturday Sept. 13, in honor of Bella’s birthday, wear a twilight themed t-shirt to show your love of the series. If you work or have other obligations that won’t allow you to wear a Twilight shirt, wear all black, white, and red to show your support.
All entries for the video or quilt must be submitted by Wednesday Sept. 3, 2008. You are certainly welcome to do one in each category, but that is by no means a requirement. Also please submit each item in a separate email as it will make our sorting go faster. Thanks so much for these brilliant ideas!I was really desperate to support Stephenie.I don’t think I’ll be able to send pictures but I’ll certainly write to her and wear a twilight themed T-shirt to honor Bella’s birthday.
Most of you will probably disagree with what I am about to say, and seeing as it is negative the Lexicon will no doubt delete it, but I have to say it. Why are we wasting time supporting someone who doesn’t even care about her fan base? She practically blamed the fans in her message for distributing Midnight Sun, I don’t see why we should waste our time giving praise and support to someone who is whining like a little child just because a manuscript, which she gave out irresponsibly in the first place, has leaked. People are enjoying it! She should consider herself lucky that out of the thousands of hopeful authors out there, people actually want to read her stuff. We don’t owe her anything. We the fans made her a millionaire, she owes us at least the completed Midnight Sun. She doesn’t get my sympathy.
Certainly that is your opinion and you are entitled to it. If you do not wish to participate, you don’t have to. We respect that you have a different opinion. We both read the same material and interpreted it differently. We read it as explanation, you read it as whining, and for those of us who do not consider it whining we are doing something. So if you want to view it that way, no problem. We don’t and we are doing something to show we don’t. If you want to organize something on another website so those that have another opinion can express that opinion, go ahead. I certainly am not telling other websites what their opinions ought to be, they have their petitions, we have ours. It’s as simple as that.
You want to view her as not caring about her fanbase, no problem, you can have that opinion. We entirely disagree.
Why we read this differently is this. We don’t know who she gave that manuscript to, it could be someone she works with in a professional capacity and that person was then careless. Authors need to give work to a variety of people for a variety of reasons, obviously one of those people was careless, and rather than throwing that person under a bus, Stephenie didn’t name that person.
Next, "We don’t owe her anything. We the fans made her a millionaire, she owes us at least the completed Midnight Sun." I find it amusing you state that we don’t owe her anything, but she owes us something? Frankly, neither ends owes the other zip. Just because someone has earned a living at something doesn’t mean they owe you more. I happen to like Doritos, it doesn’t mean the CEO of Frito/Lay owes the product’s continuation to me. I liked Dr. Who, David Tennant doesn’t owe me personal appearances or four more seasons. Being wealthy automatically makes you nothing more than fortunate.
Lastly Stephenie never said, "I am not continuing it ever". She said it’s on hold. Had she decided to give it up totally she would have said so. Anyone who has ever done performing arts and just gotten burnt out by doing too many shows in a row or from dealing with too many snippy people, or been on yearbook where everyone wants something and no one is happy, or has been on traveling soccer and at the end of the season the coach picks someone else as the hardest worker knows what it is to pour your heart and soul into something and then just need a break.
I definintly put the banner on myspace. And I’m going to send her a a fan letter. I wish I could do the quilt thing too, but at least I’m doing something. Also Sept. 13 I’ll wear my Twilight tshirt too. :] I hope she realizes that we’re sorry for the people who hurt her feelings. <3

I am very sad that this even has happened. I love what Stephenie Meyer has brought into my life and I will support her through any decision she makes.
Mishib: She gave it to someone she trusted. And they betrayed that trust. It’s bad enough that writing that she put her heart and soul into got leaked before it was ready, but a friend betrayed her too. Stephenie has always wanted her fans to get to experiance the story the same way her characters did, and this was very disapointing to her, and many fans.

I am so glad about all this, I’ve been wanting so badly to do something to show support… and although I don’t blame ppl for reading the part of the book that Stephenie posted on her site, I’m not going to- even though everybody saying how good it is makes it almost painful to resist the temptation- and I urge others to do the same, to show Stephenie that her true fans ARE willing to wait for the final product that she originaly intended for the public to read.

Stephenie’s books have been so important to me – the way she portrays emotion in a way that pushes all the barriers – so real and raw – I want to support her in any way I can and let her know that in spite of a vocal minority, most of us love and support her, and are so grateful for the books she has shared with us. I agree with Mishib. I feel as a fan that I was betrayed. I understand that having her manuscript leaked was very tragic, but when she distributed it she took that risk. I feel we as the fans are paying for it. Leaked manuscript= fine no book. I feel her choice to put the novel on hold was wrong. I feel I have been on an emotional roller coaster. She built all this hype up for midnight sun, and just because it got leaked now its gone. Thats not right. At this point I feel that she does not truly care for the emotions of her fans. I lost alot of respect for her after this. Things get leaked online all the time, but that does not stop artists from sharing their art, and remaining loyal to their fans. Alot of twilight fans have invested alot of time, emotion, and life to the twilight series. Midnight Sun in a sense was going to serve as closure to the twiight series and now i feel incomplete.

1. I, AS WELL AS 99.99% OF THE OTHER TWILIGHT FANS, HAD ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH THE DRAFT LEAKING ON THE INTERNET. BUT MYSELF AND THOUSANDS OF OTHER FANS WILL MISS OUT ON A VITAL PART OF THE TWILIGHT EXPERIENCE BECAUSE OF A MISTAKE OR WHATEVER YOU WANT TO CALL IT, CAUSED BY THE ACTIONS OF A FEW PEOPLE. STEPHENIE HERSELF SAID THAT THE LEAKING WAS NOT MALLICIOUS, SO THEN WHY AM I GETTING PUNISHED LIKE I AM SOME CHILD, FOR SOMETHING THAT I HAD NO PART IN, ESPECIALLY SINCE ALL I HAVE DONE WAS SUPPORT STEPHENIE MEYER, AND ALL THE TWILIGHT BOOKS?

I FELT THAT MIDNIGHT SUN WAS A WAY TO RECONNECT WITH THE CHARACTERS AND THE STORY. I WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS BOOK REKINDLEING MY LOVE FOR TWILIGHT, AND WAS HOLDING ON TO THE IDEA OF READING ANOTHER PERSPECTIVE JUST TO HAVE IT SNATCHED OUT FROM UNDER ME. I DON’T THINK THAT IT IS FAIR TO CHEAT THE FANS OUT OF A BOOK THAT STEPHENIE, HERSLEF, HYPED UP TO BE THE BEST BOOK OUT OF THE TWILIGHT SERIERS, ESPECIALLY AFTER SERVING UP A BOOK THAT I (PERSONAL OPPINION) CONSIDER TO BE THE WORST OF THE SERIES.
IN CONCLUSION,
I HAVE STRONGLY SUPPORTED STEPHENIE MEYER SINCE I BOUGHT TWILIGHT. MY FRIENDS AND I CONVERT NEW READERS WEEKLY, BUT I AFTER HEARING THIS NEWS I FEEL DIFFERENTLY. DON’T GET ME WRONG, THE BOOKS ARE GREAT, AND WILL ALWAYS BE GREAT, BUT I FELL THAT SHE HAS BURNED A BRIDGE WITH THIS FAN, BY PUNISHING THE WRONG PEOPLE FOR THE LEAKING OF MIDNIGHT SUN.
I can’t imagine being burned the way Stephenie has. She has every right to be hurt and upset and I just pray that she will change her mind in the end.

Ok so I think I might be the only weirdo out here that absolutely loves the twilight saga but has been completely dishearten by SM’s reactions to the leak.
I understand she probably was very emotional when she wrote her post, My heart goes out to her. and
I do not think it fair for SM to punish her loyal fans by withholding MS “indefinitely”
We deserved a better treatment after all is because of die-hard fans myself included that she is where she is today.
Since this is a free country (last time I checked) and I have a right to my first amendment.
I won’t be participating in the support SM movement although I already sign several petitions for SM to finish MS.
at least not until SM owns to her share of the responsibility for the leak and quits blaming innocent adoring fans like myself or at least retracts her statements.
Until then there won’t be any SM loving from this dishearten fan, I know I’m the minority but that is the beauty in a democracy even the minority deserve a VOICE.
stephenie meyer is not blaming fans for this. she did not come out and say “the fans are the reason that ms is on hold,” so please stop saying that she is blaming us, because she isn’t.
everyone has their opinion, and i respect that, i’m just telling you what i think. stephenie must be torn apart, and as my favorite author, i think she deserves respect. i am most definently going to do at least 4 of the 5 things on that list to show that i am apart of the people who will stand beside her even through this time.
I love SM and her writing even more so but seriously………… this is just way over the top!!!! SM has an ego now and you can’t tell me that she doesn’t want to finish Midnight Sun and have it published as much (or more so) as the rest of us adoring fans do!!
SM managed to keep Breaking Dawn under wraps pretty tightly except for a few smalls leaks – and lets face it who really believed the leaks anyway?? We all know (and love) Twilight, we all know the story line, we all know the characters from Bella’s POV and we are all desperate to hear the rest from Edward’s POV and I bet you that SM wants to finish this book even though she is feeling betrayed right now!!
As for that betrayal – perhaps SM should never have let a copy of MS to anyone she did not have full and complete trust in OR release it to someone who had the opportunity to be in an environment where someone (who has no conscience) could get their hands on it!!
I’m not justifying the fact that someone has taken it upon themselves to be totally disrespectful but in all fairness that is no reason for SM to punish not only the fans but punish herself in the process by letting someone strip her of the creative process she was using to bring MS to life and to put this process on hold “indefinately”
I am not begging or petitioning for SM to bring Midnight Sun to life because if she was originally intent on delivering this to her fans then I believe she will. I also believe as a person, mother, wife and author Mrs. Meyer has the ability to forgive, the desire to write the rest of MS and more importantly the need to complete what she has begun for her own satisfaction.
So I say……….. good things come to those who wait!!!! (And hell we are all impatient so – it’s only a few months till the movie and a fix of all things twilight!!)

Contrary to popular belief we don;t just delete everything that isn’t squee. If you’ll notice there are posts here that disagree and are respectfully put. They are still there. Sorry for not fitting your stereotype. As far as I know no one has brainwashing powers, they may disagree with your opinion, and you may not like that they actually have an opinion that is opposite yours, but that doesn’t mean they are brainwashed.
Hey, not to change the subject, but I just read an article about Stephenie Meyer in People Magazine today! Has anyone else seen this?
We can’t think of Stephenie’s response to the MS leak in isolation. If you think about everything that she has gone through this year alone–she understandably is undergoing a lot of stress. I think it is highly insensitive of her fans/readers to expect her to be gracious and comply with the “demands” of fandom, given all that. She’s just human after all.
i put this over on Kaleb’s site. Around the fansites I’ve been watching what I would call a spectacular display of blame the victim.

If you gave a short story that you want to enter in a contest to a teacher to read, and then another student in that teacher’s class takes it without that teacher’s knowledge and put’s it up on the Internet because he or she just couldn’t control themselves and had to share, who’s to blame?
You for giving the item to a teacher to critique privately? The teacher, for not having ESP that she had an unscrupulous student? I’d say the student who knew full well what they were doing was wrong but did it anyway.
Stephenie didn’t just give the manuscript to anyone. It was given to a trusted friend for a good purpose. Someone then took it from that person.
“Stephenie should just get over it and stop whining” or “JK Rowling never acted this way.”
JK Rowling talked about the Harry Potter Lexicon stealing her ideas that it had zapped her creative energy for months on end.
Rowling had chapters stolen that never made it to the Internet. The people who did it were caught and prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Call me crazy, but that ain’t getting over it.
When Rowling’s items and Stephenie’s too for that matter did make it on to the Internet it was the fully published book as she intended it about four days ahead of the print deadline. Their respective publishing houses took legal action.
Somehow I’m thinking if people took a rough draft of the first half of Deathly Hallows and put it online a year ahead of publication and then it was widely distributed, there would have been quite the reaction from Ms. Rowling.
I really wonder what people wanted. A passionless post. Seemingly they liked Stephenie’s positive posts when she talked enthusiastically about feelings for various projects. Were those inappropriate on what is her personal website? Why are negative feelings now inappropriate? Fans are fickle, that’s for sure.
Puhhh-lease, I’ve never had anything censored at the Lexicon, EVER!!! and I don’t always agree with everything everybody says and have posted things disagreeing with them. Maybe if you are respectful and keep your language clean, maybe there wont be any problems. Personally, I don’t want to read posts with bad words and people being nasty or disrespectful. That’s why I like it here, they keep it clean.
Another thing… We asked the girls at The Lexicon to help us do something for Stephenie. Personally, I’m embarrassed at the childish and rude way some “fans” have behaved and have treated her. With fans like that, who needs enemies. The poor woman has been through hell and I think her “True Fans” need to do something about it. If you don’t want to be part of it, don’t be part of it. But, quit your temper tantrums!!!
People need to grow up!!! I didn’t like book 2 that much, but I didn’t have a major fit and try to ruin SM because of it. I understand different people have different taste. Not everybody will like the same thing. But, to get that out of control over Breaking Dawn, come on!!!! I understand most of the fan base is very young, but the sad thing is that the big number of people that are being rude, hateful, childish and are having the embarrassing temper tantrums are these old ladies that have nothing better to do than post hateful things on other sites. I support Stephenie all the way! I can understand why she is upset. All that hard work she put on those 12 chapters for nothing! I believe someday she will finish it, in a few years maybe. I just can’t see her not finishing it… I know she’s hurt and very upset and I know it will take her a very long time to get over all the things those people have done to her. She probably can’t write because of being upset about Midnight Sun and also because of the Wonderful people that trashed Breaking Dawn (Lets give Kudos to them!!!)
