Chapter Thirty Three- Forgery

Chapter Number: 33
Chapter Name: Forgery
Page Numbers: 629 – 648
Date of Chapter:  Dec. 23, 2006
Summary:  Charlie wants to visit Renesmee but Bella doesn’t want her human father anywhere near all the visiting vampires, so she agrees to bring Nessie over to his house. Jacob accompanies Bella and Nessie on the trip and is grateful to escape the company of all the “reeking bloodsuckers”, especially the Romanians. Nessie is fascinated by Vladimir and Stefan and Bella recalls the last conversation between them, in which they explain why they look the way they do.
On the car ride over to Charlie’s (in the Volvo, to Jake’s disappointment) Bella tries to hint at the secret purpose behind their excursion. Sue is cooking at Charlie’s house but Bella excuses herself by telling Charlie she has errands to run. Charlie believes Bella is simply behind on her Christmas shopping and lets her go. As Bella hurries to her destination, she contemplates her work extending and pushing away her shield.
She arrives at the address Alice gave her which turns out to be a dangerous, dilapidated neighborhood. A man dressed incongruously with the area is loitering and he initiates the conversation with Bella by cautioning her to be careful. She asks for J. Jenks despite not knowing what he does or why she needs him. The man, Max, is awed by Bella’s beauty and phones J to see if he wants to meet with her. Jenks is skeptical until Max mentions the name Cullen. J. Jenks panics and agrees to meet Bella immediately. After Max tries to determine what Bella’s background might be that would cause his boss to go ballistic (cop, drug cartel, mafia, diamond smuggling) and finding out that she’s married, he gives her a new address to visit, in a very different location.
Bella arrives at the new office where April, the receptionist, stalls her a bit, but Jason Scott, the name used by Jenks at this spot, insists that she come in right away. Bella discovers that Mr. Scott / Mr. Jenks deals with Jasper in the creation of forged fake documents. Bella presumes that Alice has given her this contact as a way of saving Renesmee if the Cullens are unsuccessful with their plan. Bella arranges for birth certificates, passports and a driver’s license for Jake and Nessie. Bella supplies a photo of the two of them, pays the very stressed and nervous J right away and arranges to collect the documents in a week.

Memorable Quotes:
“Yeah, I know, I know. They’re the good guys, they’re here to help, they’re going to save us all. Etcetera, etcetera. Say what you want, I still think Dracula One and Dracula Two are creep-tacular.” ~ Jacob to Bella, page 631
“Now the Volturi’s eyes are filmed with dusty scum, but ours are bright. I imagine that will give us an advantage when we gouge theirs from their sockets.”  ~ Vladmir to Renesmee, page 632)
“She looks like …” His eyes ran from my face to my shoes appreciatively. “Well, she looks like a freaking super-model, that’s what she look like.” I smiled and he winked at me, then went on. “Rocking body, pale as a sheet, dark brown hair almost to her waist, needs a good night sleep – any of this sounding familiar?”  ~ Max to J, page 639-640)

The Volturi burned the Romanians’ castle down.
The paper-thin skin of the Romanians and the Volturi are due to their inactivity, almost like petrifaction.
Max is the first human outside her family that Bella deals with as a vampire and enjoys the interaction because it demonstrates her self-control and his lack of control.
The names that Bella chooses for the fake passports are Jacob Wolfe and Vanessa Wolfe, a tribute to Jake’s werewolf status and his nickname for Renesmee.
The Cullens have enough money in different worldwide bank accounts and in the house “to keep a small country afloat for a decade”.
