Forks-Cast Update

I’m currently working on uploading the latest Forks-Cast to another site. Basically there are so many people trying to access it, that is rendering the site inaccessible depending on how many people try at once.  Hopefully, I’ll solve this within the hour.

EDITED:  I think the volume issue is solved on the original link so try that link again. I’m slowly moving all our files to a new location.

Here’s another location for  Forks-Cast http://www.sendspace.com/file/lr5pwh

Forks-Cast Time

Alphie and I just recorded our latest Forks-Cast. For you newcomers that’s the Lexicon’s version of a podcast.

Two words of warning before you download it:

  1. It’s a long cast, around an hour, so it is going to take awhile(15 mins DSL) to download.
  2. The recording includes spoilers for Deathly Hallows and Eclipse, so if you haven’t read those books yet, we warned you ahead of time.

Also since we have been getting a bunch of questions, there has been some technical difficulty on Stephenie’s site and the Lexicon due to a MAJOR increase in volume on both sites. So please bear with us while we sort out the bugs. Also, just a reminder, you can help us keep our operating costs down and at the same time get really cool Edward, Jacob, and Bella inspired merchandise by shopping at the Cafepress Lexicon store. We make a small mark-up on the products, and this helps us to pay for our advertising free operating costs.

New York Times Book Review

The New York Times has reviewed the entire Twilight Series so far in its Book Review section this Sunday.  This is quite a thrill as getting a NY Times Book Review nod is quite difficult for any author, let alone a YA author on her third novel.

The online book rankings haven’t changed over yet so hang in there. When they do, our personal prediction is that New Moon, Twilight (hardcover), Twilight (paperback), and Eclipse will all be on the list each in their respective sub-categories on the children’s list.

Stephenie and Eclipse in Deseret News

A few of you have sent me a link to the article about Stephenie that appeared in the Desert News in Utah.  Once again we get the comparison to Harry Potter and how difficult it is for book sellers to keep these books in stock.

As a personal note, I was in Borders today and saw an entire book shelf behind the counter full of copies of Eclipse that were being held in reserve for readers.  I made a comment about it to the worker ringing up my order and he said, and I quote, "That book is so popular.  Every time the phone rings it’s to ask us if we have that book.  She must be one heck of a writer!"  Naturally I agreed with him and very proudly told him she was my friend!  I also told him he sould read the books… but that has yet to be seen!

Eclipse in The Wall Street Journal!

As if all the exposure the book is getting hasn’t been enough, The Wall Street Journal is running a few tid bits about Eclipse and Stephenie’s success in their next edition.  You can find the stories on line here and here.  It is a lengthy spread, which is a great honor for Stephenie.  And once again we have the compairison to JKR and the HP Series.  However, I especially like the part in the smaller article where one store owner says that the book isn’t "literary" enough and only ordered 10 copies!  HA!  Lovely.  If only they knew, right?

Alphie

Stephenie in the Daily Herald

Talk about surreal… Pel and I were interviewed for an article about Stephenie’s popularity for the Daily Herald, a newspaper out of Utah.  You can read the article on-line here, but if you have a real copy of the paper, I would love a hard copy.  IM me through the lex if you could send me a copy!

And I should say that the statistics quote for the lexicon in the article were PRE -Eclipse.  I do believe we have significantly increased since then.  Oh and… I’m the 33 year old Tennesseen mentioned in the article – although I do NOT claim Tennessee as "home" but rather "the place I am currently forced to live."

Alphie

They quoted my tech specs and used my "We have visitors from every continent except Antarctica." statement…but the forgot to use my name. Oh well.

What I like best is the Harry Potter comparison spelled out in sales figures because there is no other way to compare the two books because they are not the same genre other than the sweeping umbrella of YA. Whenever anyone asks my why the Potter comparisons I keep saying you have to compare book 3 to book 3.  In other words:

1. JKR first four books of an previous unpublished author a year apart (this is the current plan for the Twilight series)

2. First run of The Prisoner of Azkaban 500,000 copies vs. Eclipse 1,000,000 copies

3. Socerer’s Stone and Chamber of Secrets on Bestseller lists when Prisoner of Azkaban releases. Twilight, New Moon, and paperback Twilight on bestseller list when Eclipse releases.

4. POA bestseller on the book charts, as of now Eclipse is running number 1 on B&N and 2 on Amazon, the NY Times Bestseller List remains to be seen this Sunday.

News on The Host

As if you haven’t had enough to read this week from Stephenie, Amazon.com is now taking pre-orders for her next book The Host.  They list the release date as May 1, 2008, but I haven’t had that confirmed from Stephenie or Elizabeth yet.  If you haven’t heard of The Host yet, you can hop over to Stephenie’s site and read up on the details for this new novel.  This book has nothing to do with Bella or Edward or Jacob.  It’s a whole new set of characters, but it’s still just as fascinating and wonderful as her other books.  It isn’t YA, but really what that means to me is that the main characters are all adults.  When we get more details on this book, we will pass it on to you.  We may be the TWILIGHT lexicon, but we are massive fans of anything Stephenie Meyer and will happily keep you up to date with any and all news about her books.
