Chris Weitz Talks To Box Office

Chris Weitz was interviewed by Box Office,

How do you direct a film when everyone knows the story and ending?

In a way, that’s an advantage. That people know and love the book means that people know and want to see the movie, which is what you hope for when you’re making a film. It’s a fine balance between being as faithful as possible to the spirit of the book, and bringing changes. I regard myself as fan as much as any other, and the way that I see the book in my head is just like any other fan’s ability, except that I happen to have tens of millions of dollars at my disposal to realize that vision. One hopes that it’s a strong enough envisioning of the book that people will be amused and entertained and excited even though they know how things are going to end.”

  1. I love the vision of Chris Weitz. Come November New Moon will show just how clearly he understands Stephanie Meyer’s series. I can’t thank him enough for what looks to be a brilliant interpretation. 😉

  2. Chris is absolutely right. It doesn’t matter that we know the beginning and ending, we love the books so much that we want to see them in film. And so far Twilight has not disappointed me. You know how it is when you read a book then you go watch the movie and think Gosh I shouldn’t have watched that because the book was so much better. Well in this case with the Twilight movies I’m glad I read the books and watched and will watch the movies. No disappointment here. Question? Did any one read My Sister’s Keeper? And then go see the movie? That was the biggest disappointment ever. I should have just stuck to the book.

  3. Chris’ interviews never disappoint. He seems to really ‘get it’ when it comes to translating books to screen. He’s got such a great sense of humor too! I love the part where he says he is recognized in inverse proportion to his proximity to Rob! Also I got such a funny visual when he was talking about the appearance of fans at the movie sets like being in “The Birds”!

  4. I’m glad Chris Weitz directed New Moon. I hope he comes back for Breaking Dawn. Can’t wait ’til it’s November!

  5. Well, I love his attitude and also love that he thinks of himself as a fan (and maybe he really is)
who wants to see it come to life the same as we do.

  6. I’m so gratefull that he has directed NM… it is my fav book of the serie. For all teaser trailers I’ve seen till now, everything looks good sooo far. If someone had some doubt ’bout him directed this movie, you would stop right now… ‘cuz he really gets it!!!! He’s the man!!! *Crossing fingers for him come back to make BD!!!*

  7. Just wanted to second everyone else; he seems like the ideal director for Breaking Dawn. (If you haven’t seen “About a Boy” rent it; it’s great!)

  8. Hey this is sort of random but i was just on barnesandnoble.com looking for the twilight saga guide by stephenie meyer and its been postpone till the end of the year… is it really come out on that date?

  9. great interview.
