Positivity and rock brilliance
Current mood: trying

I have decided that I will focus on the positive for as long as I can stand my own annoying cheeriness. Go-go-gadget optimism!

In keeping with that goal, I figure now is a good time to explain my current happy distraction. People have been asking me "What’s the deal with you directing a music video? That’s cool but… so random." I couldn’t agree more.

This is what happened. I was just minding my own business when I got an email from my pal Del, who is a music promoter. (See that picture on my front page of me standing next to my idol? Del was the one who hooked that up. Del is the one who convinced musician extraordinaire and all-around-amazing-super-person, Justin Furstenfeld, to come on tour with me and make my signings awesome. Del is all things bright and beautiful.) Del tells me that Jack’s Mannequin–one of my favorite bands–was interested in going outside the normal music channels with their new video. They saw that I was a big fan, and they wondered if I would be interested in writing a treatment for this new video. Oh and here–do I want to listen to the brand new song that isn’t available yet? (It’s called The Resolution and it’s on the radio now and it is beautiful and brilliant and so many other words. Go listen to it.) And I’m trying to pay attention but mostly I’m thinking, "Holy crap, Jack’s Mannequin KNOWS MY NAME."

Well, I don’t say no to offers like that. I say, "I am absolutely on board. By the way, what is a treatment?"

Turns out, a treatment is the visual story that goes along with the song. I always come up with stories in my head when I listen to music, so this is not a stretch for me. I listened to the song and it was so full of possibilities that I came up with a bunch of ideas without even having to strain myself. I wrote up two and sent them to the band. They wanted to do one of them. I was slightly dumbstruck that they really chose it. Then they tell me that, in order to preserve my vision, they want me to direct the video. I was more than dumbstruck by that–I was (dare I say it?) CHAGRINNED (bwahahahaha). I have seen a director in action (Catherine the Amazing), so I know that directing is brutally hard and is not for people who don’t know what they’re doing. People like me. But all is well. A real director who DOES know what he is doing is going to make sure I don’t destroy the entire planet with my ineptitude. I’m nervous that I still might destroy at least one continent despite his help, but how could I not do this? When I’m sixty, I don’t want to look back at a life of amazing things I might have done.

The story is a very pretty, very dark little fable. I’m really excited to see how it all turns out. And–if I’m brave enough to ask–to get a picture with another one of my favorite musicians.

Support For Stephenie

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

With regards to the events of the Twilight fandom recently, we, the administrators of several  websites, have heard your pleas requesting something be done to support Stephenie.  So, to answer the question of "what can we do" that we have heard repeatedly over the last twenty-four hours, we propose the following list of suggestions.  Feel free to participate in one or all of the events.

Post this banner for your MySpaces, Blogs, LiveJournals, website sigs etc. http://tl.test/view.php?pic=9g8uwo&s=4

Write a letter to Stephenie at
Stephenie Meyer
c/o Author Mail
Little, Brown and Company

Participate in a "We support Stephenie Meyer" video. All you have to do is send a picture of yourself showing support to [email protected] and put "VIDEO"  in the subject line. Be creative with your show of support, but make sure it is a still photograph and not an actual video.  We will take the photos and make them into a video that will later be posted on You Tube.

For those of you graphics people who want to do something, we have another idea. We are going to make a virtual quilt. Send a 200 X 200 support graphic to [email protected] and we will work it into a virtual support quilt. Make sure you put "QUILT" in the subject line.

On Saturday Sept. 13, in honor of Bella’s birthday, wear a twilight themed t-shirt to show your love of the series.  If you work or have other obligations that won’t allow you to wear a Twilight shirt, wear all black, white, and red to show your support.

All entries for the video or quilt must be submitted by Wednesday Sept. 3, 2008. You are certainly welcome to do one in each category, but that is by no means a requirement. Also please submit each item in a separate email as it will make our sorting go faster.  If there is some sort of detail we left out that you need help with, email [email protected]  with "HELP" in the subject line and we’ll see what we can do.

Stephenie Addresses Midnight Sun Leak

Many of you have e-mailed us over the last week asking for us to comment on the leaked chapters of Midnight Sun.  We have refrained from posting anything about the leak until we had some official comment about it from Stephenie Meyer or Little Brown.  Tonight Stephenie updated her web page to let all of her fans know what was going on and what this means for the future of the book.  You can read her official statement here.

Stephenie to Direct

MTV has an article stating that Stephenie will direct a Jack’s Mannequin video.

You guessed it, Extra TV has a Twilight feature. You can catch it on their website and see Ashley Greene (Alice) talking about the movie.

In the news

MTV is citing that Twilight is the winner in a "“If you could choose only one movie to see in the theater in the next four months, which film would be your first choice?“ poll. According to MTV, "the eagerly anticipated first movie to be adapted from Stephanie(sic) Meyer’s blockbuster series turned out, in fact, to be the MOST anticipated movie of the fall…" The poll actually originates on Fandango here.

The Christian Science monitor has a piece on fan reaction to Breaking Dawn.

Photobucket has now listed Twilight as one of their front page categories. Thanks to Cocoa (not our mod) on the heads up on that.
