Twilight Summer School First Edition
Posted by TLBLOG - 18/06/08 at 08:06 pmPel had this idea a few weeks ago that we should do a piece on Twilight being used in the classroom. Being a teacher, I was very excited about this idea so much so that I asked to be the point person on it. I started off this project like any other, making an announcement on the front page asking for your stories. I figured I would receive two types of stories: ones from teachers and ones from students. I even created labels so I could remember which story was which as I sorted through them all. I soon realized that two labels were not enough.
Not only had teachers and students written in, but so had librarians, school secretaries, parents, college professors, college students at all levels, and community outreach workers as well. The diversity of people using Twilight for educational purposes was surprising.
I had never thought about using Twilight to teach ESL Parents about literary elements so they could understand what their students were learning or creating Twilight Tournaments to coincide with Teen Read week. The stories sent are both inspirational and funny. Twilight has been a proven tool in the classroom whether your teaching kids about point of view, using it in an ESL class, or tempting the non-readers with a 500+ page book that they can’t put down.
Over the summer we will be featuring the stories from teachers, students and everyone in between. Each week there will be stories and sometimes artwork that was inspired by Twilight in the classroom.

thats great!!!!
wow! really excited!
I am SO not usually a reader, but these books have me hooked. I just finished them for the second time since I got them a month ago. I think it’s great that they are being used like this!
i agree brianne i hate reading i think its dumb the only books i will read over and over and over again are the twilight series
Honestly I think it’s her writing style. I’ve never been so emotionally invested in a story or its characters. The Host is also a great read. I really do wish that more books kept my attention as well as hers have. I have to give her credit though because now that I’m done with the series (again), I’m looking at reading some of the classics she references to.
I’ve always loved reading, but I’ve used Twilight to get others around me to read.
*smacks head on desk* crud! I didn’t realize it had to be alittle summary of how we did are work and related it to Twilight- oh well…Haha- tis ok, I will enjoy reading teachers and studenst Twilight accounts- its very intresting!
And I just thought I would add this: Twilight was the first big book I read- and I was in eighth grade and an advanced student to make it more clear on how much I hated reading- thanks to Twilight now I love it!
I love reading, and Twilight was recomended to me, so I read it, and I am….obssessed!
This is a great idea, its so cool
I am so excited to read this article! Thanks Twilight Lex! I am excited for anyone who can get the word out that Twilight is being used in schools!!!!
This is simply amazing! I can’t wait to read all the stories. It’s so remarkable when a book can connect so many people together. It’s magical.

These submittals are fantastic examples of Twilight at school. I’m amazed how far reaching The Twilight Effect travels.
How exciting! This is definately something you need to share with Stephenie. What a tribute to her writing, to be used in all of these ways!
So cool XD BME, I /wish/ I had a teacher who let us talk Twilight constantly…my English teacher stopped us to work on the assigned reading xP
All of these are fascinating so far…can’t wait for more^_^
I’m excited to read them!
Like I would do little things that reminded me of twilight, like for Bio I researched Spanish Flu. But that’s like the biggest thing I’ve done. Some of these people went all out, and I’m excited to read about it.
Holy crap!!
The third one’s mine!!
That’s so cool!
I feel really honored.
Thanks for posting this, Lex. I can’t wait to read more.
