James Franco Twilight Fan?

MTV’s Josh Horowitz caught up with James Franco at the Toronto International Film Festival and apparently he’s up on Twilight.

  1. Breaking Dawn’s sex scene is what is it. I know it was a build up but use your imagination.
I don’t really enjoy the movies either because there not that good so I get that.

  2. Terry Martin says:

Love James Franco after just watching Tristan and Isolde for about the fifth time. Interesting interview.

  3. Jen Gambale says:

    Looking good, James. :3

  4. Surprisingly thoughtful, honest commentary. Agree with him that Twilight has become such a phenomenon it is often difficult to separate the actors/films from the books. Hopeful, for the actors’ sakes, that fans do not limit their perceptions of the actors’ abilities. Love the Twilight movies and they are very enjoyable, but also looking forward to seeing them in other projects as well. Hope they get the chance!

    • I agree, and am delighted with the interview.

You’re right, James, the world of Twilight is fascinating. I, for one, was much relieved that there wasn’t an explicit description of the s*x scene. IMHO, the, uh, play-by-play descriptions do not compare with the experience, if you know what I mean.

I think the issue of the actors being typecast is significant, and could be a problem for them. I agree with Kristen’s family though that random independent films do little to combat that perception among the fans, simply because no one sees them (or wants to). Other big films are the way to go to prolong their careers.

For instance, my family says she is too old, but I think Kristen Stewart would be a fantastic Katniss in the upcoming Hunger Games movies, and I think she’d enjoy a great deal of fan support. She’s frail (looking) but tough, athletic, plays young, seems to want to avoid the spotlight, and is good at doing “pain.” A series like that would have her seen by fans and industry in a different role, one that has a personality that appears to be more similar to how she is as a person.

So, if Breaking Dawn can spin Nessie a little older — which I see no problem with — why not make Katniss a year older?

  5. Wasn’t there some talk about him possibly being in BD? I would LOVE that…hello Garrett! :)

  6. He will forever be Daniel Desario to me!

  7. I love that when he talks about it it’s not a joke. It’s somebody who is actually interested in finding out why people like Twilight. More people need to go about it the way he does. It sounds like he wouldn’t exactly call himself a fan but he really wants to know what it’s all about. I really appreciate people like that. Not everyone loves it or even likes it but you never know until you read it and you actually take it seriously.

    • In complete agreement. He seems like someone who instead of judging the phenomenon and writing it off, he’s willing to dive right in to see what it’s all about. And then he comes out and is not at all judgmental over it. Can all the bashers of the series say they did the same?

I have to say, when I saw the time pop up as the video was buffering, I was NOT expecting for that entire clip to be about Twilight!

That was a great piece. Loved him since Freaks and Geeks.

  8. Love him, he is the perfect nomad for Kate…right? Perfect little patriot I swear….hint

  9. That is a good and honest interview. He’s not saying that he loved the books/movies, but he isn’t saying that he hates them either. He has much of the same opinion that I have. Some actors/actresses will say they LOVE Twilight just to get the press, and you know they are like that, because during the interviews they don’t know jack about the story or characters, so in short, it is refreshing to see a celeb be honest.

  10. Twilight Nymph says:

Gotta Love Him! I just cracked up when he said that Rob and Taylor where having the romantic moment in the tent scene. It was hilarious. I have to say that I agree with those of you who believe he would make the perfect Garrett because he would.
