Bill Condon talks to the fans on Facebook!

Bill condon handA first for the Twilight fandom, Bill Condon is taking questions at the Official Twilight Saga Facebook page!  He introduces himself to the fandom and even goes so far as to reassure us that there will be no musical numbers in Breaking Dawn!  Read his message and if you have any questions for him, he says he will try to answer them!  Go show him how much a great final movie means to this fandom!  On behalf of the admins at the Lexicon, we want to say thank you to Mr. Condon for even taking this time to face the fans in this way!

i really like that the directors do this kind of thing. The fact that he is really doing his homework on this series and trying to get into it as much as he can really makes me feel better about this project. Well, that and the fact that Stephenie is actually a producer on this one. I really do feel like this can be done decent…as long as they really work on those key scenes that we love in Breaking Dawn…which I don’t think I need to mention. :)

  2. No FANGS required says:

A thank you to both Lexicon and Bill Condon for this opportunity to the fans. Glad to hear that Bill seems to really care about this project, Stephenie and the fans as well. :) :) :) Looking forward to seeing and hearing what he has in store for the big screen.

  4. Twilibrarian says:

How can I make a comment on Facebook? I keep trying but cannot find a place to click on “comment.” HELP!

  5. Lisa says:

Well hopefully enough of us shouts no fade to black on the isle esme!

  6. Twilibrarian says:

Got it! I had to “like it” before I could comment!

  7. Pamela says:

Wow, that was just fantastic! Thanks a million to Bill Condon for caring enough to address us personally. He has my 100% support!

  8. janelene says:

WOW! He’s definitely starting off on the right foot with the Twi-Universe!!
I think we must thank Chris Weitz for all these ‘letter-to-the-fanbase-from-the-Saga-director’ rituals…it really warms our hearts and makes the whole journey and adventure of making the movie such a memorable blast! :D

    • janelene says:

When I say ‘thank Chris Weitz’, I mean that wasn’t CW, like the one who started off reassuring us when he came onboard for New Moon and sent us a lovely message too? ‘cos there was this huge ‘female director versus male director’ sort of debate going on? If my memory serves me right… ;)

    My Comment from FB….

WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF TWILIGHT!!!!! I’m SO happy that YOU are a part of this movie. When Twilight Lexicon showed the people up for the job you sounded like the best choice to me. It warms my heart that you have reached out to us as a Fandom and I am really REALLY happy to know that you will see the wants and needs of ALL the fans who love this story. I have wanted something like that for some time….so you ROCK! As a 26 year old woman, trying to work in Production Set Design, I have some very grand hopes for BREAKING DAWN.

WISH #1 Please make the wedding all white. Flowers and little lights on the trees on the drive up. Remember Alice always goes OVER BOARD. It’s how she shows her love.

WISH #2 The book will be your bible. And direct quotes are SO lovely to have added in where ever you can.

WISH #3 Isle Esme… oh boy! Stephenie wants it to be pg13 and it should be. But this is a moment that Edward has been waiting for for nearly 100 years and is Bellas condition to marry. Make it sweet. And we want feathers! Lots of feathers! And if we could see mashup of things they do there…diving with the fish. Bella says it’s SO Colorful!

WISH #4 Please have a cool plan for when Bella and Edward figure out that she is pregnant. Please have Bella say “My little nudger”. And if we could see the phone call to Rose, and her taking over at the airport. Protecting Bella and her pregnancy.

WISH #5 Edward hears Renesmee’s thoughts and kneels down at Bella’s Belly. And tells her how much Renesmee loves the sounds of their voices. (makes my cry everytime)

WISH #6 The BIRTH! Bella’s spine breaks, and the baby is dying. It’s a really crazy part in the story but it should be done right. Edward is there, Jacob is there, and Rose too. I would LOVE for it to be flipping from the 3 POV’s of Bella, Jake and Edward. So we see all thats happening and the reactions to it all. Edward Should have a bloody face, and I’d love it if we could hear the sound of his teeth breaking through, it’s a metal on metal sound.

WISH #7 Renesmee is not CGI. We don’t even need to see that much of her in the birth. Just Edward showing Bella that it’s Renesmee and not EJ. Just pick a cute baby that can touch someones face.

WISH #8 The cottage! It should be so cute! I think of the cottage in Snow White, but with the closet from Sex and The City! HUGE!! and filled with stuff Alice wants to dress Bella in. The part in the book when Edward helps Bella smell for her jeans and Tshirt would be nice here.

WISH #9 Would be that you cared enough to read this far.

WISH #10 That I could come help the Production team, I’d work for free!

    • Twilibrarian says:

Wish #11: Edward’s soul. Not wanting to make love to Bella until they are married, saying his virtue is the only thing he has intact; he is also a virgin.

Wish #12: The “sex” talk Edward has with Carlisle and his brothers. See wish #11

I agree with your discription of #6, everyone’sPOV, including Renesmee. Ends BD film #1, a cliffhanger for the nonTwi.(Do they exist?? ;-)

Everything else is dead on. Stay true to the book, “little nudger” and all. Leave in Bella’s “Can vampires go into shock” line when he is frozen to the floor and she is talking on the cell to Calisle, as well as the “don’t you dare ruin my buzz.”

      • Kali says:

Yes yes! WISH #11 Edwards soul. And I forgot the best part of all!

WISH #13 The last 2 pages of the book. When Bella shows Edward…everything. “I want to try something.” She puts her hands on both sides of his face, and opens her shield for him. “Bella!” We see flashes…all the memories. And they kiss. “I HEARD you….how? How did you do that?” And they joke about who loves the other more. And they have “Forever and forever and forever.”

I just LOVE them so much. Can you tell I’m Team Edward? lol

        • janelene says:

YES!!! Definitely the last two pages!

You are simply awesome, Kali! Thanks a gazillion for putting across all your wishes SO succintly ‘cos they are EXACTLY what I love and hope for too, but am too lazy to write out…lol!

I REALLY hope Mr Condon reads your wishes and reads them CAREFULLY!! :)

          • Kali says:

Thank You! I hope he does too! I just went to the FB letter and there are over 2300 comments…WHOA! I think I’m not the only one who wants to voice their WISH list. :)

        • Twilibrarian says:

          Oh, yes….the last 2 pages.

    • Julie M. says:

I’m seriously tearing up here reading all these wishes and reliving the book. I’m picturing everything in my head and it’s just perfect. I really, really hope Bill reads your FB comment, because it’s just perfect!!!!!!

      • Kali says:

So did I! Just thinking about these parts of the story, makes me tear up too. I woke up today with more WISH list hopes….

WISH #14 The Burning Man. When Edward takes Jake outside and Flips out. Edward is having the worst time in his whole existance. Much MUCH worse than when he left Bella. Because NOW he truly believe that he has killed her. It’s HIS baby in there and it’s sucking the life out of her. I as always thought that he was a monster and that he was not good for her. And now he is being slowly tortured, seeing what he thinks is physical proof that vampires are soulless monsters. (I KNOW Rob can do this well, I saw Remember Me….Twice!) But most of ALL I would LOVE to see Jakes face when Edward tells Jake “She can have Puppies!”

WISH #15 The Locket. Bella thinks its all over. She puts Nessie on Wolf-Jakes back, and Edward says”Is THIS what you have been hiding from me?!” This is a very important part. I remember seeing someplace that Stephenie said she cried when Edward called Jake “Son”. So I think that she may want it in the movie too. Maybe?

WISH #16 This one is kinda funny. After Bella starts drinking blood, and she is strong enough to get up and walk around…I’d just like to see Bella all Preggers kickin’ it Juno style with a slurpee like cup of blood. :D

WISH #17 Grown up Nessie. This might never happen. But I think I’d be nice to see Nessie and Jake running in the woods when she has grown as much as she can.

Should I post this on FB too?

  10. Andy says:

They have to use some CGI for Renesmee. Even if they find a baby that is “close”, they have to add in the perfectly formed teeth.

For toddler Renesmee, they have similar issues because she’s far more physically capable and intelligent that a human child. So, while they could use a “young actress” as the base, I can’t see how it could be pulled off without at least CGI enhancement.

    • Twilibrarian says:

I don’t mind a little CGI enhancement for the baby, but I honestly think for close-up work, they need real infants/toddlers. The description in the book of Renesmee when Bella first meets her is “twice the size” of how she remembers her, with “bronze-colored hair that fell in ringlets past her shoulders.” In my opinion I hope Mr. Condon doesn’t age too fast, as Bella deserves to hold her “infant” before she becomes a toddler over night.

  11. Maelina says:

How nice of him to write this! Though I wish he didn’t use “Twihards”, I don’t think any Twilight fan would want to be called that. It’s nowadays mainly used when someone wants to insult the fandom.

I wish him luck, this isn’t going to be an easy job. First he’ll have to get to know the material and decide what’s important and then he’ll have to fight with Stephenie and the other producers to get his vision of the movie on-screen. There are a lot of changes to be made that are absolutely necessary for the film/films to be even remotely cinematically good. Based on the previous movies I don’t trust Melissa one bit, so I hope Bill finally is the director who understands what the series is all about and is willing to make some changes to the script. I don’t care about the details, just fix the B/E romance that Melissa together with the directors messed up. And please, get a new make-up team! And direct the actors!

  12. Noah Brighten says:

In truth, I’m less concerned about what they take from the book to put in the movie, than they creating a good movie in the first place. There will be sacrifices to be sure, but if it makes Breaking Dawn a halfway decent experience, then I am all for it.

Please folks don’t cry foul when they don’t use every segment from the books. They can’t, and some things in BD just won’t work well on screen. I trust they will make the right choices.

Remember what happened with Ang Lee’s “Hulk”, where fans insisted on the Hulk having PURPLE SHORTS, or they’d riot. Not only did the shorts look stupid on screen, the story stank.

    • Pamela says:

Your last paragraph is super funny. I think we as super Twilight fans are very fortunate to have directors such as Catherine, Chris, David & now Bill who really care about what WE think. Not sure if any of you watched Dear John the movie but I also read the book & it is so different than the book that I couldn’t believe it. I mean I loved the movie but if I had to give it a rating from 1 to 5 on how much it followed the book, I’d give it a 2, maybe 2.5 stars. If that happened with Twilight, I wouldn’t be a happy camper.

So yes, I think we are absolutely 100% fortunate for these wonderful directors. And now that Stephenie is on board with BD, I really think we’re in for a good conclusion to this beloved saga. And I realize that not everything can be in there – that’s just impossible – but I know we’re in good hands:)

  13. LeeLee says:

“…my office is starting to look like a Hot Topic.” LOL! I already feel better about this guy than I ever did about David Slade.

  14. anto21 says:

Well I’m really glad that Bill Condon decided to write a message directly to the fans of Twilight. It is very kind of him. He really understood how much the fans care for the books becoming films, it’s a great start

  15. VolturiGirl says:

I wonder what Bells’s shield will look like when she learns how to use it.

  16. Maelina says:

I forgot to say in my comment(which is still awaiting moderation BTW, wake up mods!) that Condon should demand a much bigger budget than what the previous directors had. Summit’s being terribly cheap, NM would’ve looked way better had they got a few, well at least twenty million more. This is a major franchise, it should look like one.

  17. switzy4ever14 says:

Ok, I was hooked on this guy when he introduced his letter to Twihards, Twifans, etc….. TEAM SWITZERLAND!!!!! This guy really knows what he’s talking about! No one rarely if ever thinks about the team that loves both werewolves AND vampires!!!!!

Congratulations, sir, you’ve got me on your side. Thanks for a great letter.

    Proudly,
    <3 SWITZY LOVE <3

  19. crystals says:

all i really want to see is the book cover incorporated into the movie like catherine hardwick did in twilight with rob *sigh*

i also like that they had a cameo of SM

it all started with the books so seeing them mentioned makes me fangirl :D

  20. Anon says:

I totally technologically inept and don’t have a facebook account (and don’t plan getting one) so I can’t comment and I am just DYING to! Somebody please comment and ask that we
–can return to the beautiful indie feel Catherine mastered so well in the first. Because the second (and I think the third) are too Hollywood oooey gooey for me, with the violen music swelling in the background and not a hair out of place. BD can’t be that corny.
–get Carter Burwell back! Please, please, please! Because…refer to the first bullet point.
–Just make it pg 13, because having it rated R is just ridiculous. You can have all you want in it and still maintain a pg13 rating. We’re all about sticking to the book when, in reality, not very much detail went into the….ahem…scene anyway. Steph Meyer actually BLACKED OUT, so why can Condon? There is no point in losing a portion of the fanbase (all the tweens) over it.
–GET THIS MOVIE OUT SOON SOON SOON!
    –Make Rob look less creepy.
–GET THIS MOVIE OUT SOON SOON SOON!
–Make it into two because we all know that’s best.
    –REFER TO NUMBER 1!!!!!
–GET THIS MOVIE OUT SOON SOON SOON!
Okay, even if no one cares enough to post this on FB, I feel better for letting that out. Whoo…

  21. Angel says:

What u must know is that studios own all the rights to a movie that they produce. Summit owns the director, they hire them to make their films and the director doesnt own the films. So although the directors and the studio heads can collaborate on the project, the studio has the final say on everything because they own it!! so whatever summit says goes, thats just the way it is. Its done. Whether u agree or not that they know how to make movies, thats just how it is. Le sigh…

  22. Most importantly stay true to the book! and please please hire the same make up artist from the 1st movie! Thank you and All the Very Best!! :)

  23. Shauna says:

Will you come to Ireland to look for Siobhan,Liam and Maggie? Please!

  24. Maelina says:

Wow, so could the mods actually point out what was so inapproriate in my comment? It’s still awaiting moderation after more than 24 hours. Or are all the mods on vacation?

  25. i hope he doesn’t leave out the funny arm wrestling scene of bella and emmet :) also.. i hope the wedding would be trully extravagant looking :)

  26. Jackie A says:

Mr. Condon, I just saw Eclipse and while I thought it was a good movie, I didnt think it flowed as well as the previous two films. I have read the books several times and to say that I loved them is a understatement. This story has touched me more than I can say and truely got me reading again for the first time in over 15 years. So many things such as Bella’s kidnapping by Alice and then the extremely important scene with Bella and Edward when he comes home was totally left out. It jumped over quite a few things which left the film feeling choppy and this could have been taken care of with just a little more time. This was a huge book and so the movie should have been a little longer than the first two to achieve the true story. Please dont forget what this story is about and that is not the action and making Bella seem as though it is not all about Edward even though Ms. Rosenburg would like for it to be that way. This story is about the way Edward loves Bella and she him. The rest is just stuff…..nothing else matters and Breaking Dawn cant be true to the book if these key things are changed. The wedding, honeymoon, baby, and Bella changing. These cant be cutt short or skipped over or left to our imagination. We finally need to see Bella and Edward come together in every way as they deserve. So many movies these days are made from books and arent in any way like the story told in the books. Twilights books and movies are so popular ONLY because of these fans and the fans want the books on film. We want to experience these films just as we have with the books. It could be written word for word as Stephanie wrote them and we all would turn out to see them even if they were 4 hours long. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE STAY TRUE TO THIS BOOK AND DONT LET ANYONE CHANGE THESE REMARKABLE CHARACTERS AND STORY.
