I don’t that she’s Twilight Saga material. We need someone who’s been around the block and who’s name would stand out knowing that he or she has experience in this type of Twilight Saga love drama with action yet dark.
to be honest, I don’t really care who directs it, I just want them to make a decision and actually get working on this! Figure out if it’s one or two movies, get a director and figure out when to shoot!!! This is getting ridiculous!
I agree w/ Jill….not big on James Camron. I absolutely adore Peter Jackson & think he’s perfect 4 BD. I wish Chris was coming back, but think I wouldn’t mind David coming back either. So far from wat i’ve seen he’s done a great job. They need 2 keep the same cinimatographer (sry 4 the spelling) & special effects team. I think that’s important. I mean they did such an amazing job w/ the wolves & the sparkling effect! Here’s hopin….
All the suggestions so far sound good. I’m partial to the idea of Tim Burton or James Cameron! I also think Chris Weitz would be lovely. It was such a pleasure watching New Moon and then watching it again with Chris and Peter doing commentary!!
To be honest, both Peter Jackson and James Cameron are more actiony-styled directors. They might have worked better with Eclipse than they would have been for the likes of Breaking Dawn. The reality is, there really isn’t ANY action in Breaking Dawn, and if James Cameron got onboard, his clot would give him the freedom to rewrite the entire movie and possibly improve many of the massive pitfalls that unfortunately plagued the narrative of Breaking Dawn. Cameron would certainly create an epic movie, but it wouldn’t follow the book at all. Peter Jackson is the same way. Both of them care more about telling a really good story than pleasing Twi-hards, of which would be both a big turn off for Summit and Stephenie Meyer. The fact is Breaking Dawn isn’t Lord of the Rings or Avatar. What Breaking Dawn needs is a director who understands the personal relationships of the characters and what it takes to bring that out. There is no way around it, of all the books, Breaking Dawn is going to be the hardest to make and work with. As written, it isn’t a good movie, so Melissa and anybody invovled is going to have a hard time. I would vote for Jan de Bont. Twister was a fantastic movie with lots of effects, but you really REALLY liked the characters of the story as well.
I’ll have to watch The Runaways in it’s entirety, before I give my vote for her as possible BD director. She’s manily known for directing groundbreaking music videos for David Bowie and Marilyn Manson. So this film will prove whether she’s got the directing chops for feature films. Gus Van Sandt had to prove he was more than a music video director, when he made Milk. So it could work if they gave her the job.
No to Floria, she has no clue about the saga and admits to it above. No to Cameron, or Burton, not their type of movie. Jackson is tied up with making the Hobbit. Weitz said in an interview that he just does not think he has it in him, he has a 2year old and a one year old who did not see him and he believes
that a new director to each film adds something.
Summit has more info but said they would not release
anything until after Eclipse. One film at a time.
It will come together after Eclipse.
Definately NOT TIm Burton, if he directed it i’m pretty sure Johnny Depp would get a small part in the movie (probably as Alistair), and James Cameron is alright but he’d probably prolong the movie for like 5 years so that he could find a device to create Renesmee lol I think Peter Jackson would be pretty cool, but then again I just want the movie to hurry up and come out
I agree with Noah that we need a director beyond the bang-bangs and blow everything up scenes ala Michael Bay and quite frankly I dont think Cameron would take the job even of he weren’t busy/riding out the biggest year of his career since 1997. Jackson is revolutionary when it comes to book to film adaptations but more so when the extra sensory/imaginative worlds are involved (think LOTR or The Lovely Bones). The conflict of BD is interpersonal and deeply rooted in human emotion and turmoil. We need a director who can make that connection to our souls and show us what the book makes us feel. Jan de Bont is a decent selection, I agree, as is Van Sandt. Both connect to their characters and aren’t afraid of character driven drama and van Sandt even fringes on the otherworldly and etherial ideas in his videos and movies. I’m still not ruling out Ron Howard. I just think it’s a little more than coincidence that BDH got Victoria’s part in Eclipse and he also happens to have a few large scale book-to-movie adaptations under his belt. Not to say that I’m in full support of this, I just think I wouldn’t be surprised if they announced his name in July to helm BD.
I think with each film & it’s director Summit has redefined their view of this franchise and Opie could make since based on this line of thought.
Twilight – (in summit’s eyes) a teen film that’s very current but still a risk at the box
office = hardwicke: makes edgy teen films successfully & on a strict budget (“Thirteen”).
New Moon – bigger craze/fan retaliation from being too far off the first book’s plot = Weitz- known purist to texts after the great screw up with “The Golden Compass”; more directing credibility/status.
Eclipse – even more fandemonium/ high fan expectation for drama both in battle & in bedroom = Slade: risk taker; known to do well with sticking to scripts; has an eye for gore/action/dark themes but can translate the same energy to the increased sexual tension in Eclipse
BD: height of franchise expectations; all but confirmed 2 movie deal: wayyyyyy increased budget after renegotiations and billion $ returns from the 1st 3 movies; YET is ultimately a character story with very little actual realized action = ? van sandt? De Bont? Chris Columbus of HP fame? Howard? I can see hope in any of those choices.

They have the funds now to hire a heavy hitter. Peter Jackson would be perfection-thats all i’m sayin’…Breakin Dawn deserves the best.
I’d love to see James Cameron do it! If anyone can pull off Renesme it’s him!
Yes, give us James Cameron…perfect to give us our little Renesmee the way most of us invision her to be.
I would LOVE to see James Cameron direct, he would definitely be perfect!!!!!
I’m thinking about two director right now, which could direct Breaking Dawn: Peter Jackson and Tim Burton.
to be honest, I don’t really care who directs it, I just want them to make a decision and actually get working on this! Figure out if it’s one or two movies, get a director and figure out when to shoot!!! This is getting ridiculous!
Agreed!
I would not want James Cameron. Peter Jackson would be cool. Does anyone know why Chris Weitz said no? And is David slade out for an encore?
I thought they had already decided it would be two movies?
I agree w/ Jill….not big on James Camron. I absolutely adore Peter Jackson & think he’s perfect 4 BD. I wish Chris was coming back, but think I wouldn’t mind David coming back either. Right on Noah! Right On.
AHHHHH YES!!! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE FLORIA SIGISMONDI!!!
I’ve been voting for her for months!!! hehehehehe
It probably won’t happen, but it would be SPECTACULAR if it did! *sending positive vibes in that direction*
Who cares if she would. She’s definitely not going to.

All ideas and suggestions sound great except Tim Burton….his style doesn’t seem suited for Breaking Dawn.
For the love of all that is Twilight not Tim Burton!!!

Everyone listen to Debra she is right as well!
yeah really I love Tim Burton but not for Breaking Dawn.
I wouldn’t mind having Chris Weitz do Breaking Dawn after seeing the awesomeness that was New Moon.

Tim Burton has a unique style when making his movie. I love Nightmare Before Christmas and Edward Scissorhands.”‘,
