So if you think the Oscar nominees are excited, you should step into the shoes of their parents as this Portland, Maine news outlet discovered. Portland, Maine is the hometown of Anna Kendrick.
“Jan Kendrick decided to go in late Tuesday to her job as an accountant at Unum.
She stayed at home, sat on her couch and watched TV.
Then she screamed – as she watched the announcement of her daughter, Anna Kendrick, being nominated for a Best Supporting Actress Oscar.
Then she went to work.
“I walked into this meeting and someone said, ‘Jan, can you explain why you are so late?’” she said. “I told them, and everyone applauded.”
Anna Kendrick, 24, is a Portland native and a 2003 Deering High School graduate who has been acting on a national level since she was in middle school.
Still, her mother said it was somewhat stunning to hear that she had been nominated for an Academy Award, for her role opposite George Clooney in “Up In the Air.” The nominations were announced Tuesday on ABC.”
See more on Maine Today. TY to Kerry for the heads up!
Anna was also recently on The Hour with George Stroumboulopoulos

She’s a brilliant actress and I can’t wait to see what great things are to come from Anna.
oh, and George Stroumboulopoulos is great too…lol…I love George. He makes me proud to be a Canadian.
That is so sweet. And refreshing to see talent come from somewhere other than L.A.!
I live about an hour and a half away from Portland, it’s so great to see a young woman from such a rural place in the country nominated for the Grammies:) She is a wonderful role model.
Thanks for posting the clips — really enjoyed them.
But I have to say, she’s almost as bad as Rob when it comes to playing with the hair when giving interviews.
I just looked up Anna’s talent agency & manager and she’s with the top representation, CAA. YOu can’t get bigger then that. Good for you Anna. Good Job to Kim Matuka her manager of 15 years!! How do people have the gift to find talent?
