Fan Gets Phone Call with Chris Weitz

The fan who won the Twilight Twitter Sweepstakes for a call with Chris Weitz has blogged about the call.

1.) How nerve-racking was it to know you had to relocate several location for New Moon?

A.) It was really nerve-racking because I thought people would notice and be upset, it was a puzzle to get it just right. The outside of the school is all CGI, we built the stairway for the school and took stills. In the Cullen’s house I also tried to show different rooms in the house to add to the feeling of the house. When Taylor was traveling during Twilight a fan gave him a hand-carved Native American ornament. We used that ornament in Jacob’s room in New Moon.

2.) I know Edward’s car is now a dark silver, but was there any reason for the change?

A.) Availability. Volvo wanted to introduce a new car into the series, instead of the older model. So they provided a newer model, brown Volvo. Immediately we knew it had to be repainted, and chose a dark, non-shiny, black colour. It added more to the first Edward scene in the movie, the feeling is upbeat but the colour of the vehicle adds to the danger lurking.

  1. 5.) Were there any scenes that you would have loved to see in the film but never made the final cut?

A.) (the first part of the answer)… more from the scene between Carlisle and Bella. [when he was stitching Bella up.] In one of the early drafts of the script this scene was not in the movie. Immediately I knew that had to change, it was essential to the story line.

Thank god Chris Weitz added that scene, it was important in the book and should’ve been in the movie, Melissa, what were you thinking? Chris Weitz, if only you wrote the whole script.

  2. So it was a brown volvo repainted black. So they repainted it. So why the heck didn’t they repaint it silver? Sheesh we all know the book and we all know the danger lurking. But yeah, still love chris weitz.

  3. Amy Darlene says:

actually as soon as the car fades there is a silver car right behind it.

so why didn’t they use a primer and then paint it silver? they could have done that.

  4. because the 4×4 volvo cars are all black (or dark silver) not shiny silver, and it’s all about marketing (and selling cars), not about the books.. that’s why :|

  5. That’s what i dislike about marketing/advertising strategies; they trample on pride and dignity and, to the fans, the continuity. But it’s over and done with, no sweat :P…Now, i’m curious about the mercedes benz guardian in breaking dawn…sounded awesome in the book and saw it on youtube!

I liked the color of the car. I think it’s more Edward.
So the more I hear from the directors/cast when it comes to what was in the script and what they re-wrote or added, I’m really starting to get irritated. I was trying not to jump on the whole Melissa is bad band wagon, but the evidence is apparent! Why are they letting her continue writing for these movies? She obviously doesn’t care about the essence of the books. I read an interview of hers a long time ago (don’t remember where) where she said that she tries to make everything she writes her own, by adding her own elements to it (something like that). But this is not her story! People already love the stories, and too bad if it hurts her ego, but they don’t belong to her. She needs to leave them as is and understand that she cannot make them better by changing things, she is actually making them worse. There, I’ve said my peace and I am jumping off the wagon again! :)

    • Totally agree with you!! I read a couple of weeks ago that she wrote the twilight script in 5 weeks!!! And the movie was a mess!! She dont deserve to write breaking dawn script and I hope she wont!

  7. Vampire-girl says:

sillygirl I agree with you, the romance especially in Twilight was rushed through and also in New Moon, I hated that they didnt show Edward giving Bella the cd it made him look real mean and he’s not. Plus he just walked off I know he had to detach himself but still rushed. I think you want to put your own stamp on it as she is the scriptwriter but yes she does need to remember that they may be her scripts but from books that are not hers.

  8. I really don’t understand why this woman’s (Melissa) still writing the scripts… :\

  9. Chris Weitz is an excellent screenplay writer. Just saying.
