Anna Kendrick Snags Golden Globe Nomination

The Golden Globe Award nominees were announced today. The Golden Globes are considered to be one of the key predictors of the upcoming Oscar nomination, though this is not fool proof.

Anna Kendrick is nominated in Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Motion Pictures for her work in the Film Up In the Air co-starring George Clooney. Anna has some stiff competition with co-star Vera Farmiga also nominated, Oscar nominee Julianne Moore, and Oscar winner Penelope Cruz:

Mo-Nique: Precious
Julianne Moore: A Single Man
Anna Kendrick: Up in the Air
Vera Farmiga: Up in the Air
Penelope Cruz: Nine

CONGRATS TO ANNA!

    CONGRATS Anna :)

  2. Alicia says:

She also faces “stiff competition” from Mo’Nique. A powerful performance.

That said, Anna is great in this movie! Congratulations! You deserve it.

  3. cmomma says:

I’m sorry, but Anna Kendrick also has stiff competition against Mo’nique! She gave a breathtaking, goose-bump producing, tearful, hateful performance as an abusive mother in ‘Precious’. Everyone in this category is a “stiff” competitor.

I’m so proud of Anna Kendrick. I remember when I first saw her in ‘Twilight’, I knew I was watching someone “perform” rather than “act”. Many may not even know that Anna Kendrick is already a critically acclaimed actress, with a Tony nomination… and now a Golden Globe nomination. 2010 will truly be a year for Breakthrough actors.

  4. Sia says:

Congrats Anna ! I loved Monique also but Anna deserves it too !

  6. Luthien says:

Wow! Way to go, Anna! I intend on seeing this film when/if it comes to my hometown.

    • birdy says:

see, that’s what they’re counting on. twilight girls going to see a twilight actor. see how quickly studios have snagged rachelle lefavre? they’re mega-capitalizing on this.

i think it’s funny how people will call kristen stewart’s acting boring or new moon boring. anyone ever seen “the queen”. oh, YAWN!!! talk about a sloooooowwww movie with boring acting. why did THAT get oscar nods? it’s a popularity contest. the awards have no credibility at all whatsoever.

      • Alicia says:

You touched on a couple of salient points here, but I beg to differ about The Queen. I enjoyed it, but then again, I also enjoyed Frost/Nixon.

And, just as you note that Anna’s performance is pretty much the same as in Twilight, I feel the same way about Kristen. Kristen, I feel, plays the same roles over and over again. Not that she’s boring or untalented, but she does tend to take roles that are very similar, thus her performances, IMO, are usually similar in scope. I don’t count that against her. She’s darn good at it.

Now, seriously, do you think these studios, et.al, are only trying to capitalize solely on Anna’s link to Twilight? Come on. What about Remember Me? Hello, they showed the trailer for that before showings of New Moon. What about The Runaways? Don’t think they’re not trying to get some of the Twilight audience for that, either. Heck, they were luring people in to see that Band Slam mess with the promise of a New Moon TRAILER, so please, let’s not make it seem as if ONLY Anna was singled out solely because of her role in Twilight. As someone else points out here, Anna’s performances prior to Twilight had already garnered a good deal of recognition for the actress.

        • Alicia says:

And let me just add…I LOVED Anna as Jessica in Twilight. Just the way she says, “Movie night with BELLA.” That got me right there. LMAO. It seems difficult to play characters that are so far off screen that they seem LESS than secondary, but I think BOTH Anna and Mike Welch did a fantastic job with the small roles they had in the movie. IMO, she stole the scene where Jessica and Bella go to the movie.

  7. katy says:

when did this movie come out??!

  8. Shayla says:

omg!! Rock on anna! I hope she wins!!

  9. danie says:

    congrats!

  10. Tairii says:

Congrats to Anna, too bad she won’t win (though now she can add the title ‘Golden Globe Nominee’ to her name and get a bigger paycheck lol) because there’s two nominations from ‘Up in the Air,’ it will split the vote.

  11. birdy says:

i especially like how every sentence of hers sounds like a question with a higher pitch of voice toward the end. lol.

i think anna did just great but her acting was pretty much the same in the twilight movies.

what i think? their recognition of her is cause they’re trying to capitalize on her affiliation with twilight to boost ticket sales. yes, folks in the movie industry scratch each other’s backs. critics are not subjective people. they get kickbacks just like every one else, including govt.

  12. safina says:

    Congratulations to Anna!
