IESB: Taylor Lautner Interview

Q: Did it ever feel like you were really in danger of not getting the role in this movie?
Taylor: Honestly, I knew where my character went in New Moon and that’s all I tried to stay focused on. I couldn’t control things outside. I couldn’t control the media. But, I could control what I was doing to portray Jacob Black correctly. That’s what I stayed focused on, the whole entire time.
Q: Did that start with going to the gym and gaining 30 lbs?
Taylor: Absolutely. Jacob transforms a lot in New Moon, not only physically. but mentally and emotionally as well. So, it was a matter of getting to the gym and eating the right food, and a lot of it. But, it was also about reading and studying the book and the character, over and over and over again, so I could have his character down as well because he changes in many, many different ways
Q: How does he change?
Taylor: Basically, my job was to continue what I started in Twilight, which was this extremely happy, friendly, outgoing guy, who is best friends with Bella. I had to continue that for the first half of the film, but as soon as he transforms, he snaps and becomes a completely different person. He’s dealing with his issues and it’s really hard for him.

Great interview. Now I’m just so curious about what he says in Quileute in Eclipse. And I didn’t know he spoke Spanish in New Moon. I’m probably lost.
I can’t wait for New Moon OR Eclipse to come out.
I’m wondering the same thing, when the heck does Jacob speak Spanish?? The only mention of it I can think of is in Breaking Dawn when Bella is planning to send him and Nessie to Rio and hopes he took Spanish in school so he could understand Portuguese. Which makes no sense if she had heard him speak Spanish before. Was this in some version of the screenplay or something?
That was a really great interview! Was he serious about ripping off edward’s arm? Like literally? I’m not sure how I would feel about that…
I am, however getting a little tired of hearing about how taylor had to “transform mentally, emotionally, and physically.” Don’t the interviewers realize that that question has been asked by EVERYONE?
When the HELL does Jacob speak Spanish to Bella??? Really?? I hope they don’t have that in the movie. Although they probably do since the interviewer obviously has seen the movie and asked him about speaking Spainsh. But WHY would Melissa put that in the script? It makes no sense that he had to speak Spanish to her.
he is just so great. honostly i didnt think I could love Yatlor Lautner anymore, and it happened. but yeah seriously why do interviewiers keep asking the “mentally, physically and emotionally question”? i think every one of the stars has heard that a gazillion times. and spanish? im as lost as everyone else! melissa, melissa, melissa, what r we goign to do with u
I loved the article. The reporter (actually did some homework) and asked questions I was genuinely interested in hearing answered. If there are still any doubters out there who may have reservations about Taylor playing the role of Jake this interview should put a stop to that. One of the most in-depth, insightful and personal interviews I’ve ever read about Taylor and the way he regards his character Jake.
Nicely done Taylor
