Taylor Lautner Interview

Posted by Twilight_News - 17/07/09 at 09:07 am

Taylor Lautner talked with Hit Fix, Rotten Tomatoes, Hollywood.com, and MSN about being Jacob Black:

“Q: Considering how moody Jacob gets in ‘New Moon’ – toying with Bella’s emotions – do you feel bad at all?

I don’t feel bad one bit; I feel bad for myself! (Laughs.) No, when I was reading the books, I felt so bad for Jacob’s character. But now that I’m actually living him, I feel way worse. Bella’s toying with Jacob! I don’t care if she’s ripped between the two guys, I feel so bad for Jacob, because she confused him; one moment, she’ll want to kiss him, and the next moment, she’s ditching him for Edward. I mean, yeah, I understand where Bella’s coming from, and it’s a crappy situation for all of them. But I feel really bad for Jacob.

Q: A lot of fans are looking forward to the scene in ‘Eclipse’ where Jacob and Bella finally have the kiss.

Yes, so am I.”

We have the sinking feeling that based on that last answer which we think was tongue-in-cheek, that Taysten, or Krislaw, Lautstew…or whatever the usuals will call it is going to start.

It is so good to hear how Taylor is such a huge fan of the Twilight series and worked so hard to give us the “best Jacob” that he could..I am so proud of you Taylor and cant wait to see you on the big screen in November. Your fans love to adore you and your worth it…

  • Phoenix says:

I’m such a HUGE fan of Taylor Lautner&Jacob Black. This interview was awesome!! I’m so exited and can’t wait to see New Moon. Team Jacob!!! xD

  • Jacob luver says:

awww taylor is sooo dedicated to his work!! he wants to give us the best “jacob” he can be!! i’m actually looking forward to the kiss in eclipse but i don’t really want kristen and taylor going out!! i keep thinking it’s gonna be like new moon how rob pattinson dumped kristen and kristen goes to taylor as a safety harbor! but i dunno…

    • Daniela says:

Oh I don’t think there will be rumors about Kristen and Taylor, that would just be wrong. It was different with Rob and Kristen, they really looked like they had a connection and everything. Also they are friends away from the set.
I doubt that Taylor is Kristen’s type anyway, he is more a typical Hollywood kid…she is more in to bookish types..well at least according to her. :)

      • Jacob luver says:

lolz! i hope not! they don’t look like eachothers type! taylors into fun loving girls where as kristen is into more serious looking guys like rob! ya they really did look like they had some chemistry(rob and kristen)But you never know taylor and kristen could suprise everyone though it would be nasty because it would kinda be lika dating your little bropther cause she kinda looks at him that way! but i hope its rumors =)

  • Rockin'It says:

Ewww… Just the idea of Taylor and kristen together is gross…

I love Taylor. He’s so dedicated, and he doesn’t let this whole thing go to his head. He’s so down to earth and such a genuine person.

  • MeggieMoo says:

AWE!!!!!!!!he’s so cute….why didn’t Bella choose him??? oh well

  • Patty says:

Awesome interview!! I enjoyed all his answers and looking forward to see him on the big screen!!!

  • Lanie says:

i hope they do both kissing scenes..the one where she hits him that will be so funny and the real one

  • mschicklet says:

Did anyone else notice this part of the Tay interview:
“Which one of Edward’s powers would you take?
TL: Well, I don’t want to sparkle. He can read minds though, right? … I’d kind of like to read Bella’s, like Edward can. ”

Doesn’t Tay realize that Edward CAN’T read Bella’s mind? That’s kind of a big part of the series….

  • Liza says:

Taylor Lautner is doing a tremendous job with the whole interview process and fame. this interview and the one from interview magazine have been great! I wish Kristen Stewart was in more interviews like such.

  • Melanie Cullen says:

    i like taysten ;)
haha i,m just kidding, i don’t think any rumors will seriously come up about them, becasue it’s kind of weird to think of them as together.

  • cullenbound says:

love this pic and cant wait to see the movie I just love there characters.

  • Nezzi_Loves_Lautner says:

taylor is soo amazing! he doesnt get the fact that fans like me who relate everything in their lives to him are out there, get to his head. not to mention the fact that he’s THE HOTTEST guy on earth, hands down! lol

  • Deb says:

It’s nice that Taylor is so invested in Jacob but I get the feeling when he’s interviewed that the doesn’t understand or have any insight into Bella and Edward at all. It’s like he only read the “Jacob” sections of the books.

I’m really getting tired of hearing his work-out schedule over and over too.

    • arazcal says:

I don’t think it’s a question of Taylor not understanding or lacking insight into Bella and Edward’s relationship, rather,I think that Taylor is taking a cue from “Jake”. After Edward leaves, Bella seeks Jake out and from that point on she’s his whole world. All his energy is focused on healing Bella.Jake doesn’t understand Edward’s and Bella’s relationship and doesn’t want to. As far as Jake’s concerned,Edward is gone,is not coming back and is no longer a rival he has to contend with.
I applaud Taylor’s consistency. In just about every interview I’ve seen or read he’s not concerned with “Edward”,he’s all about “Bells”. As for the training-if people keep asking the same questions he has to answer. It is a huge accomplishment on his part adding 30+ lbs. of muscle in months!and now he plans on adding another 10!! Talk about being dedicated to bringing a character to life. Bravo Taylor! ;)

    • Visitor says:

@Deb: Again, agreed. I keep trying not to let Taylor’s extreme one-sidedness detract from my perceptions of him as a person. Ironically enough, it is precisely that same one-sided/self-centered attribute that led to my problems with the ‘real’ Jacob in the books. But it could just be that Taylor is really REALLY into his character. He certainly seems really REALLY into the whole “teams” thing. But he doesn’t seem to realize that some folks are Team Jacob because they simply prefer Jacob’s character over Edward’s and not necessarily because they prefer Jacob/Bella as a couple.

@arazcal: While understanding ones own character is fine, I can’t imagine how Taylor would not at least want to try and understand the other characters as well. At least on the most basic of levels. As opposed to the potentially polarizing view of Edward=bad Jacob and Bella=good. Especially since it is these three characters whose thoughts and actions so fundamentally affect one another. And especially since we are looking at a possible 4 movie deal, which means that the movies are not just a snap shot of one event. None of the characters will actually stay in the same mindset throughout all four movies. Edward will eventually respect Jacob, Jacob will eventually respect Edward and Bella will eventually be resolved between the two. And as awkward as Kristen is in interviews at times, she at least seems to get this. Robert, of whom I am not the biggest of fans, also seems to get this. Taylor seems to be the only one resistant to that truth, IMO. And that’s fine, if doing so allows him to bring a more accurate portrayal of Jacob to the screen. But it is not necessarily an engaging quality to have outside of filming. Hence the potential for interviews like this where he risks coming off . . . self/character centered.

Slightly Off Topic: If BD is ever made into a movie, I wonder how Taylor will reconcile what happens in that book with his current stance (by stance, I’m referring to repeated interviews where he states that Bella was better off with Jacob) on the books. If he is as ‘one’ with his character as he seems, will he ultimately undergo a change of opinion? Because even the ‘real’ Jacob eventually had to concede that he and Bella were not meant to be.

      • arazcal says:

I don’t believe for a minute that Taylor doesn’t understand or comprehend the complexity that entwines his character with those of Edward and Bella.Let’s give the guy more credit than that.
Rather,I believe that his focus and answers are completely appropriate given the setting and cicumstances. For this interview he was asked specific questions pertaining to Jacob in New Moon and his transformation. He understands his character, yet I don’t see that understanding as a flaw.He realizes that Jacob is not the same character that we meet in Twilight(hence the extreme physical change),nor will Jake be the same for New Moon,Eclipse or for that matter,Breaking Dawn.
As for not understanding other characters/relationships, he’s mentioned discussions he’s had with K.Stew and R.Patz and has credited those talks for bringing the characters/actors closer together.

I get the impression that Taylor Lautner is the kind of actor who lives in the moment and is into his character. Right now he’s playing Jacob Black as portrayed in New Moon:who goes from normal teenager-loyal,loving friend into ‘werewolf’-member of the pack. While looking forward to filming Eclipse and Breaking Dawn that’s not what’s on his plate at the moment.I want him in the mindset he’s currently in. I want Taylor standing up and rooting for Jake!I’m glad he’s proud of the character.
I don’t want him to be saying “Well in New Moon I know I don’t stand a chance in Hell of getting Bella cause Edward’s coming back and in Eclipse I’m really not gonna fight for Bella I’ll just let Edward take her’cause when they get married in Breaking Dawn Bella’s gonna have a daughter and i figure I’ll just imprint on Renessmee.
What kinda attitude would that be?! Geesch..Taylor to thne own self and character be true! ;)

        • Visitor says:

As I already stated, its perfectly fine if Taylor wants to hold on to a narrow minded interpretation for purposes of filming, I just don’t think it should be much of a surprise if that interpretation carries over into interviews and people see it as, well . . . narrow-minded. And I never said that Taylor should look into the future and the fact that Bella’s love for Jacob is not ultimately enough to change things and see that as a blueprint for the way he plays Jacob for all future movies. I’m referring to the present and to the fact that Jacob goes through things in NM but so do all the other characters. Edward suffers. Bella suffers. Each pain is different, of course, but each pain is glaringly present and obvious for anyone who reads the series without the evil/good blinders on. Rob and Kristen can speak about their characters without belittling other characters or making them seem less significant than their own. Yet in every interview I’ve seen of Taylor, he appears very up front about his belief that Jacob is superior to Edward. Or that Jacob’s character is more sympathetic than Bella’s and so on and so forth. I didn’t realize that his views on that front were even at issue. His statements have been quite clear. Even still, I don’t think that makes Taylor a bad person. In fact, one could argue (and I can see that you do :) ) that his attitude shows how dedicated he is to the project. But the thing about double edged swords is that they cut both ways. Because one could also see his attitude as somewhat off-putting to people who do NOT think that Edward is bad or that Jacob is the most sympathetic of all the characters or that Bella and Jacob is better as a romantic couple than Bella and Edward. But one can’t blame a person for feeling the way that they do. And if this is truly Taylor’s interpretation of the books, then so be it. That also means that it shouldn’t be anything but a blip on the radar when Taylor’s interpretation bleeds into people’s perceptions about him. The same would be true if Rob bashed Bella or Kristen bashed Jacob or David Slade bashed the TW franchise on a whole. . . People will notice (or in the case of David Slade, HAVE noticed) and they will comment.

  • jenb says:

I am NOT looking forward to the kiss in Eclipse. That will be the hardest part of the movie for me to watch!!

I wonder if he has read BD and knows how Jacob ends up? Sorry Taylor but Jacob is so not meant to be with Bella, but with someone else.

    • arazcal says:

I can’t wait to see the kiss(es) in Eclipse. I want to see Bella (finally) admit to herself and to Jacob all the feelings she has been denying and suppressing.
Ahhh…you’re Team Edward. That explains it. ;)
      I’m on the other side.

  • switzgal says:

Aww Taylor is so awesome and cute!! How can anyone not like the guy. He loves the books, loves his character (as he should) and loves Bella!!!
He seems so down to earth on interviews too and he’s working so hard for the fans to bring Jacob to life. I think its so great that he’s really into it.
Plus the more I read his interviews, the more I see how really close his personality is to the way SM describes Jacob. He truly is Jacob!

  • Deanna says:

this is gonna sound a little silly but I was actually surprised that he said crappy and suck in a sentence lol i no theyre not like real curse words though it would have been funny hearing them come from his mouth cause he like never says that

  • safina says:

I don’t mean to offend anyone, but I really think Taylor deserves a much better person than Kristen.
It’s just like Edward and Bella, Rob and Kristen look great together.Taylor can find a better girl, just like Jacob.
