Behind the Scenes at MTV

Mark Burnett, who grew up in London’s East End, is the media genius behind Survivor and other reality TV, is at mission control when it comes to the MTV Movie Awards. There’s another notable, but lesser known, East Sider along with him at the helm. Only, it’s East Side New Yorker Lee Rolontz.
Like Mark, Lee’s urban bringing helps to bring the show the edge that it’s known for. They have both been at this for years, but have the souls of 20-year-olds. Lee experienced Studio 54 in it’s heyday, and followed Wham (back in the day) to do a rockmentary in Japan.
“It’s the ‘Twilight’-'Slumdog’ slug-it-out year…It’s courageous of MTV. ‘Twilight’ is not an Oscar movie. It’s a movie that audiences can rally around that hasn’t been anywhere else.”
Check out the feature in the New York City’s Daily News.

Even tho it’s not so much the movie, its still the
story we’re gonna get behind. We love these books!
Doesn’t matter if it wasn’t Oscar worthy, I didn’t
care much for the movie but saw it 9 times! Because
this gave us a look @ our favorite characters. We are gonna get behind the vote no matter if its Oscar worthy. It deserves it. Did anyone see Slum Dog multiple times? Its a good movie but to actually pay to see a movie so many times has to count for something. I wasn’t alone either, so many people I know saw it every week it was at theatre, way more than me. So I hope it sweeps up tonight for that alone. I never read a book (books) over and over again either, but I do these. Stephenie cast a spell.
I saw Slumdog 3 times.
By the way if that’s going to be your argument then The Dark Knight deserves to win.
It will if it got the vote. How many times did you go see Dark Knight. I still haven’t seen it. I think my brother bought it when it came out but he only watched it once. I believe the twilight saga touched so many more. I’m sure The Dark Knight and
Slum Dog deserve awards, I’m not saying they don’t but I believe Twilight Fans are the best and the Twilight story is the best, and it will all come down to votes. Who did you vote for- The Dark Knight or Slum Dog? and that is the point!
The Dark Knight wasn’t my cup of tea. Yeah it was a good movie, but I thought it was overrated. It was better than Batman Begins, but sequels are supposed to be better. I thought it was Heath’s performance that made that movie special. I didn’t bother watching it in theaters, I just bought the DVD then sold it on eBay. I voted only once, not that it was going to make a difference, and it was for Slumdog.
I’m a film lover and I like to pretend I appreciate good filmaking (ha-ha). The Dark Knight was ace, and I’m not deneying that in any way (I adored it), and Slumdog was a brilliant work of film (also loved it), but–honestly–if it were a vote between the three, I’d still pick Twilight. I had never before seen a film that I’d actully felt the need to see again, just because I loved it so much.
Seriously (and I’m not saying HOW many times I went to see it, but it was defiantely more than two…) if it was down to sheer mass-adoration and living up to the damn high standards set by millions of hard-core fans worldwide, Twilight SHOULD have been an oscar film.
This award show is going to be Twilight and Disney, I don’t think anybody else is going to waste their time and show up.
Melisa,Everyone will be there alright, but maybe you see alot of disney & Twilight people there because this is the year of the fans making a few decisions instead of corporations. I am at the Twilight Lexicon and I voted for ‘Twilight’ because I love love love this story. Doesn’t slum dog have a lexi
you can visit? I thought this was for Twi fans. Thats about as real as it gets. I won’t care if the other movies win but it won’t be because I voted for them. Just sayin’
Always the downer, Melisa.
I can’t wait to watch this tonight. I haven’t watched this show in years, so I’m excited! I don’t care is Twilight isn’t oscar worthy, it brought to life my beloved characters. I don’t even remember how many times I saw it in the theatre, let alone on DVD.
I’m not a downer. I’m being realistic. And the audience does look like it’s only Disney and Twilight people. And I do know guys who have seen The Dark Knight 10-15 times.
Julie, couldn’t agree more, I don’t particularly enjoy MTV but I will watch it to see if Twilight wins and of course ‘the trailer’! I’m countin down
with the all the other fans. Enjoy!
Ugh, MTV and their self absorbed ways, “…the edge that it’s known for”…sure it might have been “edgy” in the early years, but now it’s dull and nothing but a advertisers dream. Blah.
