Part 2 of the Lexicon Music feature is about your opinion on the New Moon Soundtrack!
Ok Twilight fans here is your chance to share your opinion on which song from Stephenie’s playlist you think should be included in the New Moon soundtrack. In case anyone has forgotten the playlist (I know how silly that sounds) go here. In this one instance I am going to be completely biased in my choice. I think that Be My Escape by Reliant K is the perfect choice. Now before I receive a ridiculous amount of hate mail let me explain my choice. This song reminds me a lot of what Bella’s struggle in New Moon is about and there is one particular scene that the song reminds me of. Motorcycles, need I say more? Just so you can all see my opinion is based on a bit more than bias here are the reasons why including lyrical support:
1. Be My Escape as a song represents what Jacob is to Bella. In a sense he saves her from herself.
Cause I’ve been housing all this doubt and insecurity and
I’ve been locked inside that house all the while You hold the key
And I’ve been dying to get out and that might be the death of me
And even though, there’s no way in knowing where to go, promise I’m going because

2. As far as Bella goes she gets that she has become a shell of herself without Edward but finding a way out of the loss she feels isn’t easy and wouldn’t be accomplished without an escape (enter Jacob).

He’s told me the way and I’m trying to get there
3. Lastly the song reminds you of what Bella needs an escape from, Edward.
But the beauty of grace is that it makes life not fair (this is by far one of my favorite lines)
Now not to neglect some other amazing music here are my other choices.
Memory by Sugarcult (acoustic version) This is listed as a Bella song on the playlist.

Hate Me by Blue October This is possibly the most perfect Edward song ever. I was a fan of Blue October prior to them being introduced to the Twilight world and didn’t realize just how complimentary their lyrics are.

My Immortal by Evanescence I think this is the first song most people associated with Bella and Edward’s relationship and it relates well to the situation in New Moon.

One song I’ve always wanted to be in the movie, ever since I used it while I was reading it, is Play Crack The Sky by Brand New. Tautou is good, but Play Crack The Sky.. if you play it to the part where Bella jumps off the cliff, its perfect. It makes me cry.

One song that I think is perfect for New Moon is Missing by Evanscence! It fits so well…seriously check it out. It would be a song for Bella.
Spoon- The Ghost of you Lingers
It played in my head everytime she would hear Edwards voice on the motorbike and especially the cliff dive.
Arcade Fire- The Well and the Lighthouse
‘Canadian Band’ Mother Mother- Body of Years (for all that filming in Canada give their musicians some exposure!)
Isle Of Thieves- Hollywood (some lyrics ‘Hollywood, you got it all wrong, Heroes are not always handsome) for our tortured Edward.
I am really hoping they ask Paramore to write for the movie again.
yea. i think paramore… or somebody (100 monkeys, muse…anyone?)should write for the soundtrack. also, this just struck me, but “no air” by jordin sparks could work. think about it…

Wow, that was really hard. I narrowed it down to Be My Escape, Fix You, Over My Head, (all some of my favorite songs for a few years now), and Sing for Absolution. I chose Fix You, though. If I could vote for all of them, I would. Because they’re all great for it.
I really like the brandi carlile song – the story. i just think that the lyrics fit perfectly with bella and edward.

Sorry this is really off topic but i just wanted to share. One song that I thought would be perfect for Eclipse is “Thinking of You” by Katy Perry. I don’t know if I’m alone on this but every time I hear I think of Bella Edward and Jacob.

this is the hardest! out of all of stephenie’s playlists, the one for new moon is my fave! my vote would have to be for either of the marjorie fair songs….
I nominate a song by Iron and Wine,
“Wolves(song of the Shepard’s dog)”.
Iron and Wine sang on the Twilight soundtrack, “Flightless Bird”.
This song follows in that vein.
It has a ethereal, mystical quality to it and I’ve even gone so far as to add it to all my Twilight Saga playlists.
Every time I listen to it- I’m running with the pack in the woods.

Uhm..can we leave the disney-ness out of the movie and its soundtrack please? The jonas brothers don’t need to be anywhere near this soundtrack. They should really go through and get some less known bands for the soundtrack…100Monkeys should definitely get their turn on the soundtrack, as well….I do think that putting sugarcult on there would be an awesome idea..Do we know if anyone has talked about writing songs for New Moon like haley from Paramore did with Twilight?
any song by paramore would be amazing. not only do they have great, meaningful music, but the members of the band love twilight and would only do right by it.

dude! i thought we’d get to opt in songs that WEREN’T in the playlist! i think alot of Zero 7 f/ Sia songs embody New Moon perfectly. notably “Somersault” (Team Jacob Gushy-ness) and “Destiny” goes with the last chapters well too.
OME!! WHAT I’VE DONE by Linkin Park is THE only song for the scene while Bella runs across the courtyard and we see flashes of Edward as he is about to step into the sun. The song is about forgiving yourself & asking the one you love to forgive you & it talks about cleansing. No blood shed, mercy, etc. It is just AWESOME for this scene. Everytime I hear it I see the scene unfold.

i agree with katie about Almost Lover, i heard it after i read NM and i fell in love with it! it’s one of my all time favorites because it reminds me of NM! but i also agree with Be My Escape. The lyrics just fit so well!!

They have to put Muse on the New Moon Soundtrack, or else! haha I have a playlist, but a band that I thought would be awesome on the soundtrack would be Shiny Toy Guns, especially “Chemistry of a Car Crash” for New Moon, just a song I thought reflected Bella’s feeling for when Edward left. Linkin Park is always a good band that easily slips into the mood of the book, I wish they could write a song for the soundtrack.
The songs i want on the new moon soundtrack are both by taylor swift. Before you think oh no hear me out.
the first is Taylor Swift ‘Breathe’ for when Edward leaves her in the forest or for when she is her room grieving for him. Here is a piece from the song

I’m definitely all about “Apocalypse Please”. First of all, hello, it’s Muse. Second, I think it keeps with the less mainstream vibe of the music in the first movie which I love and has obviously proven to be a good move since the ST has sold incredibly well. Third, when I listened to that song while reading the scene where Edward leaves I felt like I was breaking inside. I think it’s perfect. At first I thought I didn’t like the song, and then all of a sudden it wormed it’s way in and I can’t get enough of it. I feel like it encapsulates the crisis of Bella’s life in that moment without being overly sappy, just really dramatic.

Oh, also, for what’s not on Steph’s playlist I agree with Katie about “Almost Lover”. Everytime I hear it now I think of E/B in New Moon and almost cry. So haunting.
I would love to see Blackout by Muse on the soundtrack. The ethereal quality of it as well as the angst present in the lead singer’s voice would be a good representation of Bella’s depressed stage. I personally (if I was directing New Moon that is) would use that song during the cliff-diving scene. When I first heard that song, Bella’s plight was brought to mind!
And one more thing (sorry!). “Pitseleh” by Elliot Smith. The lyrics may not always sound fitting but if you’ve heard this quiet but moving song it definitely is. I guess Edward’s point of view. Here’s a taste:

I think that “Thinking of you” by Katy Perry would be perfect for New Moon. It goes along with Bella thinking of Edward while with Jacob!

The Mitch Hansen Band needs to be on the soundtrack.. both their songs “By You” and “A World Without You” would fit perfectly with New Moon.. if you haven’t heard of them they are a Twilight inspired group that are amazing! If you haven’t heard them you should definetly look them up on myspace or youtube!
