Summit announced to the subscribers of TwilightTheMovie.com via email that Dakota Fanning is now officially cast as Jane. If you haven’t signed up for alerts from that site it’s really worth it. Subscribers got a text message signed by Rob and Kristen back in November announcing that New Moon was green lit.

Honestly I never really pictured her to be a mysterious type actress to pull of a character such as Jane. She is known for more subtle characters and can be somewhat a dark sided person, as seen in Hide and Seek, however Jane’s perspective is a mature, sly, and sleek and some what devious. But I will hold back judgment and hopes she is able to pull off the character as described in the book.
I know she is going to do great. She has that creepie look to her.

ok, i read all the comments, dakota fanning can majorly act, and has been since she could walk, this 10 minute part will not even put a strain on her. as for her not being jane, she will be jane, she can act.
what i still can;t believe is we are not going to have a real jacob. he will not look or sound 25 without

books but hated twilight movie, they didnt develope the relationship between them all enough.
take the field trip scene, it didn’t make sense, edward never would have talked so rough to her about tripping, they could have used that wasted scene to actually put in some of the missing ones from the book. i hope new moon script better or
we’ll have to wait 10 years until a production company wants to redo the right way. i don’t want to wait that long.
You guys, calm down. NM will not suck even if she was really bad for this role, because let’s face it. How long is she going to be in this movie? Ten, fifteen minutes out of 120? It’s not a big deal.
Well I don’t like her too much, but I definatly hope she does a good job.

I’m really happy that Dakota has been cast as Jane, she fits perfectly to the way I pictured her in my head, I can just see her doing the glare at Edward and sending him to the floor in pain. I think she can sort off do the “beady” eye look Lol. I’m so excited I just wish they would put out a full cast list now, come on summit the suspense is killing us all!!!!!
What the heck were they thinking. She’s never played a carachter like that. She can barely act as it is and it’s not just a 5 minute part. She will appear in ever sequel to twilight as a very important character. Why does she deserve to play jane. Shouldn’t they get a no name to do it. So they can have the experience and do a better job. I don’t know why everyone loves her so much

YAY! IDK Y ppl always put so much energy into hating great actors and actresses when they have no clue on how they will appear on screen. I think, personally, that she will make a fantastic Jane. Who cares that she has been in a bunch of movies? that just goes to show that she is a great actress. plus, have you ever seen her play a bad/evil person before? i didn’t think so – so stop saying stuff about her role without knowing how well she can do this part.
anyway, if she does ‘steal’ the scene (which i doubt cuz Rob and Kri will be the stars and also cuz Rob is so frickin hot[lol]) then is will only be for about 5-10 minutes so you can relax. If youre a true fan, you will suck it up for 10 mins.
ive never seen her so eager to get a role for a movie, so i hope ppl wont go around and trash talk her because she got the role. It was SUMMITs choice, and SUMMIT got to choose. Not you or i or anyone else, but the one and only SUMMIT. so just deal with the fact.
didnt she just do a great job in War of the Worlds? thats probably the closest piece of her work that deal with stuff ‘out of this world’- if you know what i mean.
I, for one, will be looking forward to Dakota’s appearance in the next movie, New Moon.
I do agree with not letting too many ‘big named’ actors and actresses get involved with the series though. and also they should have made sure she would do the next two movies (if they are making them) for sure. im sure she would love to pursue her role in all the movies. Summit will choose on how much she will get paid, and they will do what they think is BEST for this saga.

Now if you want an example of bad acting, look at RP, KS, and TL in Twilight. I am confident that they will all be better in New Moon. But, if the Twilight movie was satisfactory to some fans (I do not include myself in that category) I do not see what everyone is so worried about.

As for the poster, I’ve seen it written that it makes no sense as he’s not much in the movie much yaddayadda, but it really DOES. It portrays him in Italy when he’s about to take the robe off and step into the sunlight.
Little role or not, it’s a powerful one.

I think the fan poster of Edward is great except that Edward never wore a black shirt! It was white shirts all through all four books! And if this is depicting him about to step into the sun in Italy, remember it was a pile of white fabric at his feet. That said, it IS a wonderful compilation.
And Lllmn, maybe we didn’t see the same movie. The Twilight I saw had plenty of acting. Why don’t you check your ticket stub?

Everyone needs to chill out! I could understand vanessa hudgens…. but Dakota? She hasn’t made any annoying disney movies? Why does this movie have to have only unknown actors? Ok I never liked Dakota fanning.. I’ve seen a lot of her movies and I never really liked her. I never like Rob and I still don’t even after seeing the movie. I can usually tell if a person will be good or not and Dakota is a mistake so was robert. I almore threw up when he took his shirt off. That was discusting!!!!!
As I understand it, there are several things people are concerned about.
1. Dakota reading the books.
2. Dakota acting as sadistic and creepy as Jane.
3. Dakota not being an “unknown” actor.
4. The movie taking a paycut because Dakota must “cost more.”
5. “But she doesn’t look like Jane!”
Did I get them all? Okay.
As for number one, I thought most of you fans would have been more on top of this. Months ago, she said she hadn’t read the books. And then in a more recent interview, she said she’d read the first one and loved it. Who says that you can’t act in a movie and not be a fan? How many of you were only official fans after you read New Moon? And- another really important question- once you got hooked on Twilight, how long did it take you to read the other three books? She could easily have read the books after that interview. Yes, as in all of them. Those of you who are accusing her of jumping on the bandwagon, I think you’re just being childish. Everyone has the right to be a fan, whether you were a diehard from the beginning or you discovered Twilight more recently.
2. I think that Dakota will definitely have to prove herself. I think she can pull Jane off. I think she has the depth of skills to do it. Her characters have never been simple. When you can layer your characters like that, I think you can pull off creepy and sadistic. That is just my opinion however. We haven’t seen her yet, and predictions are just that- predictions, not reality. There is only a small amount of certainty we can put on any performance.
3. I think this point has been covered enough. Sometimes unknowns are better, but usually when you are looking for a part that requires someone who doesn’t fit the polished Hollywood stereotype. (Nikki Blonsky in Hairspray, anyone?) But most of the time, the famous actors are the ones who’ve earned it. (This is disregarding those specific people who can’t act but are consistently cast because they’re eye candy.)
4. If Dakota is a fan, she’d be willing to make a pay cut. And, for such a small part, I would guess her role would cost significantly less than others. How many days do you suppose she’d spend shooting? One? Two? At most a week. It isn’t going to be very much.
5. Jane is a fictional character, people. More than that, she’s a character FROM A BOOK. That means she looks different to most of us. My dad insists that Jane was black. I always thought she looked more like Dakota Fanning. Some of you have very different opinions. Whoever they got to play Jane, some of you would be happy and some of you would be unhappy.
Secondly, even if you they DID manage to find someone everyone thought looked like Jane, looks have nothing to do with acting. You don’t want a bunch of plastic people who look exactly like the characters but can’t act like them. You want /them/, and that requires someone who can act.
I’m excited about this-I’m sure Dakota will do a bang-up job as Jane!!
Well covered Angeliss. With a shortened script, as it must be, Jane will only likely have 2 scenes at best. So lets hope her salary accurately reflects that. I’m sure it will significantly increase for Eclipse, but lets hope Summit also increases the budget on their end as well.
I think she’s the right age and the right look for Jane and i get a certain “creepy” air from Dakota. I think if those of us who did not love the movie for its inaccuracies and budget cuts can grow to appreciate it as a part of the Twilight Universe, then New Moon will be no exception. They’re never going to be the books, but they can represent a visual part of this phenomenon we all love, as they are.
I, too, would love to see a completed cast list, but all will come in due time. Lets keep our panties and what nots, out of a twist and support our drug of choice.

Very well said. You forgot one more point – people claiming she just wants to do New Moon because she has a crush on Robert. Dakota said in one interview she thought Rob was cute. This is a real example of people taking things out of context -just because she said Rob was cute, doesn’t mean that she has a thing for Rob. Even though in another interview(or maybe it was the same one) she said she was excited about working with Chris and Kristen, but I love how that fell on deaf ears.
And for people claiming that Dakota can’t act then how did she get the lead role in The Runaways(that’s the Joan Jett movie that Kristen been talking about)? The part she’s playing, Cheri Currie(Google her), is not exactly a walk in the park.
NOOO I dont want her to be Jane..good grief. I agree with the person who posted #4 when they say I hope they don’t go paying her a bunch of money. It’ll be interesting to see how much screen time she’ll get and whether they’ll try to expand her role beyond the time she really has in the book. Hopefully she won’t be making more money then any of the regular cast members will or else I’ll scream. I was really hoping Lucy Hale would get the part, but of course Summit has to try to lure in an already well known actress to play a part that isnt even remotely significant. I have nothing against Dakota, but I just dont want her to be in New Moon.
