TAYLOR IS JACOB

Good news about New Moon from director Chris Weitz:
I’m very happy to announce that Taylor Lautner will be playing Jacob Black in New Moon and that he’s doing so with the enthusiastic support of Summit Entertainment, the producers, and Stephenie Meyer.
The characters in Stephenie’s books go through extraordinary changes of circumstance and also appearance; so it is not surprising that there has been speculation about whether the same actor would portray a character who changes in so many surprising ways throughout the series. But it was my first instinct that Taylor was, is, and should be Jacob, and that the books would be best served by the actor who is emotionally right for the part. I think that fans of Twilight the book and the movie will be surprised by the Jacob Black that Taylor will bring to the screen in New Moon; and I’m looking forward to working with him and the rest of the cast in realizing the film.

I’d just like to add that I was very much a part of this decision. My first priority was always what was best for New Moon—what was going to give us the best possible movie. I’m truly thrilled that Taylor was the one who proved to the director, to Summit, and to me that he is the best possible Jacob we could have. And I’m very much looking forward to seeing what he’s going to bring to Jacob’s character this year.

I guess why i was hoping for an older looking Jacob is because Jacob has ALWAYS been my Favorite character and it seemed like most of the people rooting for taylor to play Jacob doesn’t even like Jacob the character in the book.I mean I always hear dissing on his character. So thats why i guess i felt it meant more to me in a way cause I had always wonderd the most out of all the characters of the saga,who would be Jacob and i wasnt to impressed with Taylor but he has grown on me and he did alright in Twilight.I HOPE they can make him look older wich i doubt but I will give Taylor a chance in N.M. It’s to good of a story not to be a good movie.right?

I’m SO SO SO SO SO excited for Taylor!!!! He deserves it, he’s worked his butt off, and he’s really interested in the story… unlike rumored Michael Copon who’s facebook status by the way says something along the lines of “he hates it when people steal things” obvi alluding to the fact he thought he was in. FALSE!

How horrible wouldit have been if he was not?How hard on him when he saw the movie, thinking of himself missing out on that part. I’m glad he got the part, because I’m a Jacob fan and he just totally looks the part..

OMG OMG!!! I have to be honest and say there were a few tears of joy when i read this. this is a crucial role and he has stuff to pull this off and with his own personal style … Jacob was exactly what Bella needed and Taylor is who Jacob needs. (i’m sure the other actors would have done a wonderful job….. but this BELONGS to Taylor)
Now, I can’t wait to see the motorcycles!!

Congratulations to Taylor, I couldn’t imagine another actor in the role of Jacob – not after Taylor had brought him to life right off the pages of the book.

That is great. I was honestly hoping they would change Edward though. After reading the books, he just does not seem like the perfect fit. Not that he is not a good actor but I expected someone with a little more WOW for playing Edward. Everyone I have talked to felt the same too.
This has been an amazing day so far…and it just got a million times better.

YAY!! i’m so excited for taylor! he is obviously so dedicated for trying to gain weight and buff up; he really deserves this. and although i am team edward 100%, i thought taylor and kristen had more chemistry in the movie than rob and kristen did, but maybe that’s just me…
i’d just like to make a point that nobody seems to really realize, or maybe they realize it but don’t think it’s important. think about how many things that were considered “important” in the book that were easily edited out of the movie. now think, honestly, how important it is for taylor to be a beast. sam and embry are werewolves; we see them in the first movie and they’re not giants. why was it so important for taylor to be tall and big? sure, it’s important to those who know the books, but to those who’ve never read the series before, how would taylor being taller or bigger make any difference to them? basically i’m saying that taylor is perfect for the part and they shouldn’t replace him (which they didn’t…) because i don’t think height and weight are critically important, even if it’s a symbol in the book. does anyone understand what i’m getting at?
I’m glad they kept taylor. I’m watched shark boy and lava girl with my son the other day… Anyone who is willing to do that movie deserves his shot at a real movie. Besides after seeing Twilight Taylor is Jacob.! Kudos to Stephanie

i’m really happy to hear this, although i still wish Steven Strait could’ve played the part of Jacob =( but Taylor rulez!! i thought he did a pretty good job in Twilight even tho his part was small, and i look forward to seeing his talent shine even more in New Moon.
Chris Weitz rocks. I really hope people start to give him the benefit of the doubt now. I think he’ll do fantastic things with the series. He knows what he’s doing. I’m happy for Taylor and more than anything I’m glad Michael Copon didn’t get the part. If there’s anything that makes me gag, it is cocky actors like Michael Copon who think they are all that. I really hope the cast of Twilight can stay innocent and grounded. That’s what makes them so believable in their roles.
I’m sooo happy Taylor gets to keep the role of Jacob!!!! He’s perfect for it, I couldn’t picture anyone else playing him!
And Minda, are you kidding me? I don’t think there is a man alive who could have played Edward better than Rob Pattinson. He was incredible!

When I heard about this, I sent a text to all my friends bc I have been following this story for weeks. I was really scared that they would replace Taylor, but they didn’t and I am SOOOOOOOOOOO freaking happy!!! I think Taylor is the perfect Jacob Black, and I can’t wait to see him in New Moon. I am sooooooo excited I can’t wait to see the movie!!!

i for one was not happy to see that taylor was jacob again me and my friends are really hopping that he can do the part justice we love jacob so much in all the books he was ok in twilight but new moon he was supose to be older looking and i hope taylor can pull it off and i hope he can do it justice for being in a main role
Excellent news. It’s possible that another actor may have “looked” the part more, once Jake transforms, but seriously–consistency is hugely important and, even moreso, the actor’s emotional involvement with the character. We’ve all seen that Taylor is a big fan. We’ve established him as the movie Jacob. Those two things make him the perfect pick, and I’m glad the author, director, and studio have committed to it.
