TAYLOR IS JACOB

Good news about New Moon from director Chris Weitz:
I’m very happy to announce that Taylor Lautner will be playing Jacob Black in New Moon and that he’s doing so with the enthusiastic support of Summit Entertainment, the producers, and Stephenie Meyer.
The characters in Stephenie’s books go through extraordinary changes of circumstance and also appearance; so it is not surprising that there has been speculation about whether the same actor would portray a character who changes in so many surprising ways throughout the series. But it was my first instinct that Taylor was, is, and should be Jacob, and that the books would be best served by the actor who is emotionally right for the part. I think that fans of Twilight the book and the movie will be surprised by the Jacob Black that Taylor will bring to the screen in New Moon; and I’m looking forward to working with him and the rest of the cast in realizing the film.

I’d just like to add that I was very much a part of this decision. My first priority was always what was best for New Moon—what was going to give us the best possible movie. I’m truly thrilled that Taylor was the one who proved to the director, to Summit, and to me that he is the best possible Jacob we could have. And I’m very much looking forward to seeing what he’s going to bring to Jacob’s character this year.

I don’t usually check the Lex QUITE this often, but somehow I just got online and thought maybe I should come check just in case there was any news…perhaps I’m secretly psychic! I also just ran outside into the snow to tell my mom the news right away; we’ve both been really hoping Taylor would get to keep the part and dying to hear the news. I’m really glad Weitz and co. made the right decision here – Taylor really deserves the part; he’s a fantastic Jake and I can’t wait to see him take on all the Jaketastic parts of New Moon. Congrats, Taylor!

Whew! I’ve been waiting for this decision for far too long. I’m thrilled that Taylor will continue to portray Jacob in New Moon.

I am very happy. When they came up with him for Twilight, I was so excited! it was like somebody took my image of Jacob right out of my mind (sorry, but before this movie I had no idea who he was) and he was great, even though he hardly had any lines in the movie at all. But he has something that a lot of the actors out there don’t have: a passion for twilight and the wonderful world that SM has created. So, I really think this is a great desition. BTW, let’s hope they change Nikki R. as Rosalie, since her aunt is no longer the director, and get somebody who actually looks like Rosalie…

I’m glad they decided to keep Taylor on! He seems really committed to the part and it will be good to see how he plays the older jacob! I thought he did great as a younger version!
i know some people disagree b/c they love the jacob/bella story- but as a die-hard Team Edward member, I don’t really need to have the connection with the guy who plays Jacob like I do to say… um.. Robert Pattinson!?
