Ugh, I agree with most on here… I was SO looking forward to seeing them- it’s the only reason I watched the show! Taylor is obviously comfortable in front of the camera; I think that Rob should have spoken first- he is the star of the movie. Oh, and who the HELL is Russell Brand…he totally ruined the show…arogant idiot!! I turned off the show after the cast left, and continued to read Twilight for my 5th time!

Yes, he’s very well known over here (as in, over here in Britain.) He’s a comedian, and is around a lot on the telley. International audiences will probably know him best from ‘Forgetting Sarah Marshall’.
Yes, he does come over as rude and obnoxious; that’s his form of humour. He generally insults people and tries to be as loud and provocative as he can.
That said. I’m not trying to excuse what he did, I just feel some carification is required.

i honestly waited for that one moment and Rob was completely cutted off!!! i actually felt really embarassed for him. and disappointed in MTV, seeing that they are pretty behind this movie.
Katie, I know you posted a little while ago, but there was something you said that i’d really like to comment on- kind of off topic but sorry. you said about Taylor, “he’s so like Jacob, he makes me smile every time I see him!” and I just wanted to say that i agree 100%! I mean, I’ve always been team edward and I love Robert Pattinson, but in every interview or anything (including the VMAs) that I see Taylor in, I just can NOT get over how much he’s like Jacob without even acting. and he said so himself in one interview I saw, and I totally agree with him. I mean, he comes off as slightly (not bad, but a little) cocky and very friendly and outgoing- he’s never afraid to be in the spotlight- quite a contrast to Rob, who often comes off as more quiet and shy. Normally that might bother me, but for an actor that’s supposed to be playing Jacob, I really think it is just SO perfect- because that’s the way Jacob comes across to me in all of the books, while Edward comes off as a much quieter type, like Rob- I just love that! It’s just SO appropriate, because I feel like if it were really Jacob and Edward rather than Rob and Taylor, it would be the same way- Jacob would kind of hog the spotlight and be real talkative, while Edward would kind of hang out in the back and have to be shoved into the center of attention.
Well, sorry, I know that was really off topic for this post…. but to be on topic, I was SOOOOO pissed about the VMAs! I sat through a couple hours of listening to terrible music (99.9% of it, anyway) and an even more terrible (if that’s possible) host, just to see the Twilight cast because MTV spent so much time hyping up their appearance, and what did i get? the shortest announcement time for the cast out of any of the announcers in the entire show, the cast SHOVED INTO THE AISLE, rather than on stage like almost everyone else, and ROB- Robert Pattinson, of all people!- cut off not one but THREE times and never allowed to say his line, because of that stupid jerk of a host! and I don’t care what ppl say about it being the host’s job to speed things up-what he did in no way sped up the process, if anything it slowed it down! and Rob handled it So nicely, of course, he just laughed and wasn’t even mad, but he’s a much better person than I am- I got so angry I punched my stupid TV! urrrggghhh! MTV better pay us Twilighters back with an OUTSTANDING Twilight Tuesday!
MTV has been promoting the heck out of Twilight. I was really looking foward to seeing the cast, but of course they only got like a 30 second spot. To make things worse that stage or whatever they were on looked awkward and Robert got interupted. I love music, but the only reason I even watched the VMA’s was to see the cast. I’m really disappointed.
I told my husband to hand me the channel changer as soon as the red carpet bit started. For as much as they hyped the Twilight cast coming I thought that they’d have shown a shot or two of them, but nothing. Oh sure, show snanky Paris Hilton, but not classy Kristen Stewart or Rob!
And then I waited and waited and waited through the horrible show to barely hear the cast introduce Paramore. Poor Rob. He handled it like a gentleman, but I was really irked. I won’t watch another VMA show even if the Twilight cast is on it. I’ll wait until the clips hit Youtube and not waste my time!
Tess I believe I a can call myself an international audience, I have been living abroad most of my life (Europe and Asia). I never heard anything about the poor guy (that is nothing good). I just do not want to repeat, all that I heard about this moron. I am only referring to last night ignominious failure.

I want to tell all that I watched the Graham Norton show, on BBCA and I think Brits are used to less tact than Americans, and they make lots of fun of the British Royalty. I think Graham is very funny, its just a different humor than we are used to.

I do think people should consider that the British sense of humour is very different to the American one: we are very ironic and sarcastic and do usually insult figures of authority such as Gordan Brown, the Queen, etc . I suppose I should also add at this point that it is normally intended more for pure humour than anything else. Generally, there is no ill will intended towards the person in question.

Has anyone ever watched Jay Leno? Comedians always joke about our president and anyone else. Like I said, I just think the Brits go about it differently. As for cutting off Rob….well I bet he did get some backlash for it. hee hee. when I saw it happen the first thing I thought of was the Twilight fandom being really teed off!!!! LOL!!!
What a horrible host. I didn’t find his jokes funny and seemed hardly anyone laughed. Did anyone catch Tyler looking like WTH? It was just a quick pan and I couldn’t tell who was sitting next to him. I was surprised when Cam was announced. Kristin looked pretty and Rob gorgeous as ever! Too bad Rob kept getting cut off by the arse host.

I think making fun of leader of a country were you are a guest is very rude,especially if that country is given you a job, There is nothing wrong with making fun of our liders; but telling you, who to vote for,and using names for the president and making fun of personal family matter that was over the line.

So, I am going to be Switzerland at the moment.
1. Russel Brand: all we know is that he is a famous actor in the UK. Okay, so it wasn’t smart of MTV to have someone we (USA) don’t know as a host, so MTV’s fault on that one
2. Some of his jokes were funny, I am not going to lie. But some were out of line, he went over board with the promise rings. And lots of people takes stabs at presidents. (ex. Jay Leno, David Letterman, Vh1, Harold and Kumar, Me, my friends, and the dixie chicks)
3. It was rude to cut Rob off, but it seems like its his nature to be loud and obnoxious.
4. The cast of twilight got enough screen time. It wasn’t a movie award show, it was for music, and all they had to do was present Paramore. They shouldn’t be rambling on about Twilight, no matter how much we would want them to.
5. The Vma’s overall this year, were the worst I have seen.
I was so dissapointed! I stayed up til the early hours of the morning ( live on the african continent- huge time difference) to watch that hairy, uncouth gorilla of a host, snub Rob! What a let down. On the plus side though, Rob did look damn sexy!
I stayed up SPECIFICALLY to watch Rob, Taylor, Kristen, and Cam…and then they were only on for like thirty seconds !

I was really disappointed with the VMA’S. I sat through 2 hours of horrible tv…..to watch the Twilight cast….and they didn’t even have but like 1 minute of airtime…and then Rob gets cut off….he didn’t even get to say his lines….I thought that the host Russell Brand was stupid and not funny at all…..

Brand is hella funny–but it was a BAD choice on the part of MTV to have him host because barely anyone in the USA knows who he is, or the type of comedian he is…or probably that he even IS a comedian, much less understand the British humor. He seemed out of his element here. Again–MTV’s fault–not his.
This year’s awards SUCKED. Overall. It was a bad set up, horrible production, and looked like a tossed together MESS. Terrible.
It would have been nice to hear Rob say the 5 words he was supposed to say, but I don’t think anyone is taking into consideration that things don’t just happen to speed things up, but also to slow things down. To me, it looked as though they needed to draw out the time before they went to Paramore, and that is where he was just filling time, and the production just cut cameras to Paramore. If you notice he is in the background nodding because they are saying something in his monitor and then they get his attention and probably tell him to start talking. (How do I know this? Because I’ve worked in production.)
For the record–Taylor doesn’t push his way to the front AT ALL. Kristen puts her hand on his shoulder as soon as they are announced and starts walking with him down the stairs. If you don’t like Taylor being in front, blame Kristen.
Anyway let’s forget that nobody “brit”, hey you guys I like rob, and he is my favorite,but Taylor is very nice too.
