Empire Books and News at Pullman Square is holding a casting call for their Breaking Dawn Midnight Masquerade Ball! From Bella to Emmett – a few lucky people will have the opportunity to play their favorite Twilight characters for a night of fun. Go check it out.
The New York times has an indepth article that takes a real look at the Character Bella Swan and what makes her tick.
Larry certainly has been busy this week. His newest blog gives us his opinons about the New York Times coverage of Twilight.
The Philippine Daily Inquirer has an article about the Twilight enduced "Vampire Mania." Big thank you to Aileen for letting us know.
Finally …We want to send a big "Congrats!" to Kaleb over at Twilight Guy. He has posted the epilogue which means he has officially finished Twilight. Thanks for sharing all of your thoughts throughout the chapters and we look forward to hearing more throughout the rest of the series.

uhh did they just call bella a virginal goth girl in that article?
lol I think they did.
Wow. That article was… upsetting. This columnist referred to the the Twilight Saga as “the Twilights”, says that the only reason Edward fell for Bella was her smell, and the tone is completely patronizing. “Characters who dictated the books to her”! I mean, it was inspired by a dream, why does she have to make it sound like Stephenie is just kind of wacko? I have a feeling that this columnist didn’t read these books with an open mind. If she actually read them, that is (sometimes it sounded like she was simply reciting what every other review has said). No offense to Gail Collins, but I really disagree with that article.
Lots of discussion going on with Larry’s newest blog… I’d rather stay out of it…
That New York Times review by that lady was seriously one of the Worst reviews I have ever seen of the Twilight Saga. “The Twilights” seriously did this lady even actually read the books??! She makes Twilight sound like some book that focuses on a girl who wants to have sex with a hunk. Wtf!!
And by the way, Edward was not the only reason I decided to read Twilight or why I loved these books, it was because we can all somehow relate to Bella and the books give us an opportunity to go into another world where the world isn’t filled with guys who only care about sex (at least she got that part right)
She needs to re-read the books. but at least she tried
Just read my comment that I posted. Sorry , didn’t mean 4 it to sound so hateful!! haha
@_____@
Wow…
I get the articles about how horrible Twilight is. Really, I do. Corny dialog, it isn’t written the best. I get it. But this?
Its just ridiculous. Acting like we’re all a bunch of cattle who believe all the same things and like all the same things. That we’re all going to expect too much from men because we LIKE A BOOK. For god sakes. This lady needs to get over herself.
-trots off to tell Larry so-
Ummm For the casting call thing, Bella isn’t one of the characters to be casted… jtlyk
im still trying to get over the fact that they called bella a virginal goth girl……?
That article definitely gave a bad rep. to the Twilight fans.
Wait, were we (meaning all of us Twilighters) just labeled as “goth”?
Hmmmm……
Oh, and just in case you guys haven’t been over to twilight guy’s website, Kaleb just posted his review of the epilogue, which means he finally finished Twilight!!! Congrats Kaleb!
Im with u wow. What is she trying to imply by calling Bella a “virginal gothic girl”?
To tell you the truth, I did not like the times article at all. If I was someone who read this article randomly, without knowing what Twilight was, I would probably be laughing right now. So many parts of this article sounded like it was making fun of the book. It had many parts were I really wish the author should have not said at all.
For example:
“So, they are forced to spend all their time kissing and cuddling and talking about their feelings.”
Can you just imaine someone reading that with a very girly voice in the end???
I spoke with the clerk at Empire Books and it supposed to be “a night to die for” if you excuse the pun. They’re putting a lot of hard work into it, removing furniture just to clear out the space for dancing and making sure the scene is set for unveiling the rest of the story.
Thanks for the update, Lexicon!
(Oh, and in response to the ‘Virginal Goth Girl’ article: very rude, over-the-top and lists people like us as high idealists who keep their heads in the clouds. To be honest, it wasn’t a strong, well-written opinion on her part, either.)
OMEOMEOMEOMEOEOME!!!!! HYPERVENTALATING!!!!! ok, ok…deap breaths….OMEOMEOME!!!!!!!!!!! GHHHHAAAAA!!!!!!
I. FOUND. THE. EXCLUSIVE. PENELOPE. CLIP. ON. YOUTUBE!!!!!!!!!!!
PLZPZLPLZ DNT HURT ME FOR POSTING IT I DDNT KNOW IF I SHOULD OR NOT!!!!! BUT I JUST….GHHAAAAA…..SHAKING!!!!
ok here it is!!!!!:
i slightly lost my temper when commenting on mtvs blog thing.
but the lady just made me sooo mad.
Bella wasnt trying to have sex in book 1&2 and thats the only books of the series that shes read.
Also she makes it sound like a bad thing that we raised r standards for guys.
I dont see how that is bad at all.
I am on the third book and curious about something, with Edward’s family reacting the way they do when Bell gets a cut why is nothing ever mentioned about her having a menstral cycle?
dani:
SM answered this question a while ago. the vampires arent affected by bella’s….umm…ya, you know, because technically, thats “dead blood”. so the only affect that it has is making edward extreamly unconfortable…lol.
hope that helps!!
After reading “A Virginal Goth Girl” i think i died a little on the inside. Gail Collins is a dream crusher who shall be passionately ignored. Hate the Article! Love the Books!
Wow, I’m shocked. That article, too me at least, was a complete mess. I can’t believe she called Bella a Virginal Goth Girl, fist off, that makes no sense! Where did she get that from? And it seemed like she thought that all the Twilighters were a cult that were looking for a hunk who has abnormal powers and want a lot of sex…that’s completely wrong. So, now I’m mad and going to calm down by reading New Moon
That article really saddens me. It reminds me of the reaction one of the teachers in my school had once we made her read “Twilight.” Her reaction would have made for better writing. I can see (well…maybe not) the books not being on your favorites list, it’s all personal preference, but to make it sound a sappy love story when they are everything but. She implies the fans are unintelligent and that reading itself is a waste of time…great way to make and impression. I thought the article was arrogant and framed the series as something which sends a message that is crude and demeaning.
Love the books…not the bad reviews
ya she really got me kinda mad. i dont even know what “a virginal goth girl” is supposed 2 mean. but i really dnt like how she portrayed edward. appenrently he’s some sort of hunky piece of meat who everyone want 2 have sex with
did i mention that i found the penelope clip on youtube?? its sumwere up ther. go check it out!!!!
What’s so wrong about girls wanting their expectations met in a guy let alone their standards rising? It’s good for girls to expect something of men and their values. What does she want from us? Girls thirsting for sex and danger? I would actually praise Stephanie for the man she created–girls need something to hope for. Guys already have a low quality to them–they could learn something if they’d only pay attention. Watching porn all day is not going to get you anywhere with me let alone your unrealistic expectations. Edward has nothing but realistic, minus the abnormal, aspects. I should want a caring, beautiful, generous, witty, brilliant boyfriend who won’t pressure me into sex. This columnist clearly does not see what it is about Edward that makes us all wish we had one.
hey they forgot the Twilight Guy update! He finished the book, for anyone who reads the blog. Go check out his thoughts ^.^
“Virginal Goth Girl”
LOLWTF.
Seriously, what the fvck was that about? :c
okay the fact that referred to Bella as a “Virginal Goth Girl” shows that she knows little of the series. And her intelligence level. I certainly don’t expect to ever find an Edward. But my standards have risen, which in my opinion is a good thing. Whats wrong with wanting a guy with good morals and won’t push me to have sex? And what she said about the guys I don’t believe that either. Yes maybe some guys do expect that, but not all. She makes the younger generations sound unintelligent, but she’s just an old lady who doesn’t understand us and doesn’t try to.
Hmm, so basicly she’s saying that good natured boys do not exist, shame on her. What in great Gryfindore is “Virginal Goth Girl”?!
Random comment: The Cullens give a good name to vampires, has anyone noticed how many other vampires are villians and or perverted?
I don’t want to watch the penelope clip until I have already seen Penelope!
Well, Inquirer gave a compliment or two to everyone asociated with Twilight, from Meyer’s elder sister to the leakage police, a good contrast to the other one.
hey was that the first review ever not to mention JKR or HP? hm…
omg! the special twilight scene on the panelope dvd leaked onto youtube!!!! but i cant find the stupid link!!!
help?….plz?
She has the quote up!
“Bella: “Oh, Mike! How will I go on?—
NVM I FOUND IT!!
her article made it sound like all guys are shallow and all female fans of twilight are hopeless idiots.
i’m not stupid. i know there isn’t a real edward out there (no matter how i wish
), and i’m pretty sure every other fan girl knows that too. so maybe after reading twilight, my standards in guys have changed, but shouldn’t that be a good thing? shouldn’t all girls expect a guy who is polite, gentle, caring and above all, loves you no matter what? i don’t think she understands that we love edward for other reasons than the fact that he’s gorgeous, can run faster than a cheetah, and sparkles in sunlight
.
oh yeah.. and the twilights?!??!
o_O
Really bad article.
Hooray second quote!
that article made me angry. her tone was so disapproving and snobbish. maybe she should reread her so-called “twilights” (what?!) and think about why these books are so appealing. they combine true romance with innocence, which is something that many girls (including myself) still hope for. is that so wrong? i agree with teresa: why can’t a girl hope for someone who, while not perfect, exemplifies gentlemanly qualities? isn’t that fair?
ugh that article definitely annoyed me. sorry for the rant.
That article, as so many have said, was absolutely horrid. The woman wrote in the most patronizing, dismissive tone. She seems to have purposely made it sound like a stupid book. I am getting so very seriously sick of people insulting these books, assuming automatically that we are a bunch of mindless “virginal goth girls”, and also forgetting the fact that not only teenage girls enjoy them. Even as far as teenage girls go, why does everyone assume we’re stupid, sex-and-”hott”-obsessed sheep without brains? What makes us so very different than anyone else? Answer me that! It seems like this kind of reaction to the books and movie is spreading as more and more people are made aware of it. It’s been making my blood boil for a long time now, and this very unlucky journalist has finally pushed me too far. No, I do not expect that an Edward will show up and whisk me off into a fantasy land of love and happiness. Bella and Edward actually argue quite a bit and are often forced to compromise. I do live in the real world, albeit with extra attention paid to all things Twilight, but nevertheless I do have a considerable amount of intelligence. I wish I could be seen as that and not some idiotic little fangirl who needs to get a life.
Sorry for the rant. Honestly. I don’t know what came over me.
you go Dusk! you just took the words right out of my mouth!
I was amazed to see that the casting call is in little old West Virginia! I live 30 minutes from there, and I can’t believe the first I’ve heard of it is on an internationally visited fan site!
I AGREE with Dusk.
“Virginal Goth Girl”…is she serious??
Does anyone know how to read the comments on the New York Times column?
I was seriously offened by the article in the new york times. She didn’t get the book at all..
Im so writing an angry letter!
On a different topic, (though I am angry with the article as well)
WEST VIRGINIA IS ONLY A 2 HOUR DRIVE FROM HERE.
Too bad gas is so expensive.
I’d be interested in seeing what the masquerade ball would be like, though.
Virginal Goth Girl…? That’s probably one of the worst titles for an article, especially one about Twilight! That was down right insulting…
Do you know what, though it makes me angry that this lady wrote about Twilight like this, we should not let it bother us. At least WE know that this book is amazing. Plus, all of us have different reasons for loving the book. Some can be attracted to Edward and like the book for that, some can read just to escape to Edward and Bella’s world to get away from the dramas happening in everyday life, some are attracted to the love Bella and Edward share…and it goes on and on. This lady is obviously very ignorant to the series and is not a very good journalist b/c it was VERY obvious she did not get her backround information correct. Hopefully, not many people will be affected by this article but if they are, its their loss.
oh. my. freakin. Edward.
did she really just call Bella a ‘virginal goth girl’?????
and say that all Bella wanted to do was do it with a hunk??
That lady is a HUGE dissapointment to the Twilight Series.
HUGE!!!
She needs to re-read the books and re-do the article because she is making the Twilight Series sound like you never would want to read it in my opinion.
xxlovelytopazxx
(I may be a stupid lamb, but I get Edward!! :])
but, despite all i said, i agree with Dusk
Oh I forgot to mention earlier in my comment that Bella is NO WHERE NEAR BEING GOTH.
xxlovelytopazxx
(I may be a stupid lamb, but I get Edward!! :])
I would soooooo totaly play ALICE!!!!!!!!!
