Mike Welch updates his blog and responds to the Twi-Hard controversy.
From our site’s POV people can call themselves whatever they want. We tend to says "fans", "Twilighters", or "Lexiconers" depending on the situation because that’s what we’ve been doing since we started in March 2006. Usually though, we tend not even to use the word because it’s obvious we are talking about us (meaning people who love Twilight).
We directed people over to the MTV vote stating, "Go and vote before you get called something you hate." because if you are going to have a moniker stuck on you by a news source that asks "What should the fans be called?", you should at least be aware that 1) they were asking and 2) you should have a voice in what that is.
Oh, that’s great. I loved his message! I will volunteer that I voted for “Twilighters”, because “Twi-hards” sounds a little weird, but I really like the name and the enthusiasm that he has brought to our community. So, I will call myself a
Twi-hard with pride!

I honestly didn’t see the problem with “Twi-Hard” to begin with… I didn’t find it crass or rude or any of that. And I didn’t get why Twilighters were making such a big deal out of it…
So I’m glad that Michael is sticking to his name and not letting go of Twi-Hards. =)

Personally, I like Twi-hards best anyway. It’s affectionate, witty, and it reflects our commitment to Twilight. ‘Twilighters’ just sounds so bland and obvious.

Aww I loved his speech about all of us uniting under the one twilight flag, whatever we are called! That’s what I love about the twilight sites, they are like one big family who all support each other instead of competing against each other, like in some fanbases!

I don’t see why people got so mad at “Twi-hard” to begin with… it’s like.. ookkkayyyy. whatever. lol personaly I liked it. I understand that people have other opinions but come on. Let’s not be snobby like, “Omg… I can’t believe he called us that! ugh!”
I still am a strong supporter of Twi-hards! I think that all of us “twilighters” should be honored that one of the actors in the movie would be so kind to take the time to respond to all of us crazy fans. I think it was very sweet!

Oh, he is so cute! That was great! I actually like all of the names so I didn’t really mind which one won. And, Sophia, I totally agree with you! Here no one is competing, all we care about is that if someone does something cool, we get to know about it!

I actually love Twi-hard…its more unique and was started by an actual cast member. To me Twilighters is a little bland and predictable.
But I don’t get why people are freaking over a name. Its not a big deal. Just a name. Just a book. Nothing to spazz over.
He’s right, twilighters, twi-hards… it doesn’t matter, we all are in the same direction!
I totally agree wih Mike; people shouldn’t be arguing about this. Whether people want to call themselves twilighters, twi-hards, fanpires or whatever, we are all Twilight fans!
I love the fact that Mike has given us a nickname, and I’m really glad he’s continuing to use it. I usually just think of myself as a Twilight fan, but I don’t mind the nicknames, and I’m proud to be one of Mike’s twi-hards!

They have already chosen our nicknames for twilight and it’s twilighters they have the clip of Robert Kristen nikki and kellan who told us what the top three were (1. Twilighters
2.twi-hards 3. twilight fans) and they announce other nicknames that were suggested for out names i like the one that said fanpires.

Haha. I think there are too many people taking this thing about the name too serious, including Michael Welch.
However, his persistence only makes him more and more perfect to play Mike Newton. lol.
When he calls us “Twi-Hards” it sounds funny and sweet, but when I have to read it in every article in reference to the fanbase, it becomes a little annoying…and not so funny anymore. So sorry, nothing personal against Michael, who is very sweet and “energetic” (in a very good way), but I stick with “Twilight fans” or “Twilighters” . Now “fanpires” isn’t that bad either. Had MTV asked about “fanpires”, I might had voted for it.

Yay! I love that guy! Yeah, I don’t really get why some people don’t like the Twi-hards. At my school, my friends and I (we’re all obsessed with Twilight, of course) call ourselves the Edward is totally hot twi-hard fanpires, so really, I don’t care what they call us! Twi-hard is quite an awesome name and I don’t really understand why people think it’s offensive.

I think that any time anyone says anything there will be people right there jumping all over it. I’m glad he stands by what he says and doesn’t change it. He sounds like a great guy. A perfect Mike on AND off the big screen!!!!
