Sad day in the Twilight fandom

Regrettably, one of the very first Twilight sites has had to close its doors. The Twilight MySpace Community was an early place, prior to the Lexicon going up, where Stephenie could interact with fans. It was a major part of rallying fans.  In fact there are major chunks of the personal correspondence that the MySpace Group graciously let us archive.

As administrators and mods we are saddened that they are gone. They were like the neighbors down the block. Having had the pleasure of meeting Brit on more than one occasion I can state that she is one cool gal.  We have Brit’s permission to post below the explanation that she gave out as a MySpace Bulletin. We are turning off the comments and would ask that people be respectful of what had to be a painful decision.

Hi Twilight friends

As most of you have probably noticed, I deleted the Twilight page last night. This was a long time coming but after spending quite a bit of time the last week or so to try to sort out the page, clean it up and settle fights, I came to the conclusion that with 35, 000 members, it’s more than any person can deal with.

I did play with the idea of handing the page over to a new mod but came up against roadblocks when trying to decide who it would be, what criteria would I look for and eventually realized that for any one person to effectively manage this page, it would have to be a full-time job. Considering what a mess the page was, I decided that if anyone wants to take on a Twilight group, they should just start from scratch. MySpace groups are very difficult to run and definitely aren’t set up for as many members as I had. Many of you have communicated your frustration about the lack of organization, repeat threads and lack of a search bar for topics. In addition, MySpace only allows for one true moderator. These are a few of the reasons why I believe MySpace is in need of a groups overhaul.

I’m sorry that many of you are disappointed but it just didn’t seem like anyone was having much fun anymore. I’ve really enjoyed the last two years, while some times were better than others. I remember a long time ago, I thought the page had become unmanagable at 6, 000 members – almost 6 times that was unbelievable. I’ve met some really awesome people and I hope to stay in contact with them. Of course I still love Twilight and I admit that I’m going to enjoy being just a fan again. And I’ll be around if anyone wants to chat Twilight. I also hope to spend more time over at the Lexicon. Alphie and Pel offered me a job at the Lexicon but I’ve declined at this time. I feel that I have very little time to offer to be an effective moderator for them and I am also quite ill at the moment (nothing too serious but very draining).

I’m going to miss seeing so many Twilighters in one place ๐Ÿ™ If anyone is planninging a group and wants a little advice on anything (layout, group profile generation, setup etc) just let me know.

I’ve been getting a lot of messages and I will try to get back to all of you with time.

My best;

Brittany (Nimir-Ra)
