Updates at stepheniemeyer.com

There are more specific updates today at Stephenie’s website to go along with the recent sprucing up of the site.

First Stephenie elaborated on her meeting regarding the Twilight movie and has specifically named the director and writer.

Catherine Hardwicke (the director) has worked on a number of critically acclaimed projects such as Thirteen, Vanilla Sky, and Three Kings. She was also a member of the jury (a judge) at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival.

Melissa Rosenberg
has also worked on a number of impressive projects with some really varied backgrounds including The OC, Boston Public, and Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman,

It look like we have struck gold with these two women at the creative helm, according to Stephenie, "It was a fantastic conversation and they asked all the right questions—I even had a chance to mention a few of my favorite actors."

Stephenie also elaborated on a ton of questions that she has been asked lately on tour such as imprinting, the nature of the changes in the Eclispe relationships, future writing, etc.

(On a side note I want to point out that the absence of having a tragic flaw is not being flawless. I’m just trying to save myself and the mods time playing referee.)

  2. megan says:

Woah! I was at the Woodbury signing – I’m in the picture! That is beyond cool!!

  3. Rylie says:

Stephenie’s website is looking good– I really like the updates.

  4. DAF says:

hmm i think they should get all new actors, fans even, to play the parts. they know it better than anyone else. mm thanks for the update.

  5. Jordan says:

thats great, i am so excited :] i cant contain my joy! haha

im so pumped for this movie !!

  6. ashley says:

i personally think that well known actors and actresses would be a much better idea then fans to play the roles-although that would be totally awesome, the more experinced actors would do a much better job….

  7. Kimberly Wilding says:

I don’t know if Ms. Meyer actually reads these but I don’t know any other way to reach her. I was reading the Midnight Sun chapter one on http://www.stepheniemeyer.com and I saw a typo that I just wanted to mention. It is on the fourth page from the bottom, just as Mrs. Cope asks “Drop biology?”. The word after is he but shouldn’t it be she? He isn’t grammatical anyway, it does not make sense. Especially since she is talking about Mrs. Cope. I just thought I would mention it. Sorry if Ms. Meyer does not read this site and this post is just an annoyance.

  8. Violeta AKA Violet Twilight says:

Man, who asked that question about Bella loving two people and Stephenie not believing in true love….the last part “Why blacken your soul woman?” was the most hilarious thing I have ever heard. And yes, this is SO on topic….

Anyways, as much I I would love to be the player of Bella, I cannot. I have brown hair, but I’m asian. Yuss, it’s my curse.

  9. johanna says:

I have to say I’m a little disappointed… The director and writer really aren’t that good… The lords of dogtown was horrible and Thirteen wasn,t that good either…. The OC’s dialogues were REALLY bad….

  10. Neave says:

The movie is slowly but surely progressing, YaY! Let’s be positive, happy thoughts, people. Fantastic news! Still lovin the facelift! Stephenie’s FAQ is so reassuring. I love her bit on Bella’s lack of self-knowledge…

  11. linda says:

I love the new updates =]
So there IS going to be a movie…yay.
I’m really excited, I just hope they do it justice.

By the way, Stephenie is looking good in her cheesehead. I hope she liked it! =D

  12. Hellish Red Devil says:

Aha, I love the cheesehead! Very fashionable. I need to get me one of those.

It’s always a pleasure to see new updates on Steph’s site, especially things like FAQ; her answers are always insightful.

And the movie is looking more and more like a real possibility…and how exciting is that?!?! :D

  13. Tennyo says:

I’ve been debating on posting this most of the night, because I saw the FAQ before I went to bed. Then I slept on it. This is not meant to be a criticism of Stephenie’s writing or the books OR Jacob. But.

The part with Jacob’s “lack of tragic flaws”. I understand that he is single-mindedly trying to save Bella, and I’m not saying that’s bad or that he does have a “tragic flaw”. However, the part about how we should “consider his age and that he’s in love with Bella” really seems unfair to me. In my mind, it doesn’t matter what age you are, you never

    a. Force yourself on someone unwilling

    or

    b. Threaten to commit suicide to make the person you like stay with you

Still, I can see where the explanation is coming from, despite the fact that I personally believe that both these acts are horribly damaging and not something you can just cut someone slack for. But this next part, and Stephenie if you’re reading this, I know you didn’t intend for it to sound like this, but I think it just does: “Bella _is_ in love with him.” It sounds like…it sounds like “it was ‘okay’ because she _wanted_ it”. So please, maybe reword that part of the answer?

Please delete my comment if it’s in the wrong place. I didn’t mean to offend in anyway. I think it’s wonderful that we can get these answers straight from the author herself, especially when she’s so busy with both work and her family.

I guess I just couldn’t let it rest.

  14. paige says:

OMG!!! She updated the site with new photos!!!! my brother is in it!!!! my little claim to fame, hahahaha…he’s the one wearing the “hello my name is Edward” shirt…only they didn’t get a picture of the back…it say’s “will you be my Bella?” anyways, I was just excited to see someone i know on her website.

  15. Kimberly says:

wow that is great news thanks

  16. McKay says:

Wow, the more news I read about the movie, the more nervous I get. I am still debating whether or not to be excited about it… what if it forever changes my image of the perfect Edward, EEEEEK!!!!

  17. Georgia says:

I am EXCITED for the movie to be moving along!!! I think the writer and director sound like good picks, I am very impressed that the director worked on Three Kings and Vanilla Skies… I LOVE Vanilla Skies!

I enjoy looking at all the book tour pictures, I am hoping to catch a glimpse someday of Stephenie wearing the pendant I made her… :) That would make my whole year!

  18. cullencraver says:

OMG im so excited for the movie…but no eclipse outakes?

  19. ashley says:

    i agree completely

  20. firefly says:

“I really enjoyed Dragonhaven by Robin McKinley, a fantasy so realistic you start to believe it’s nonfiction (and plan your trip to Smokehill National Park).”

    SEPTEMBER 20th!!! EEEEEEEEEE!

  21. McKay says:

Oh My Gosh, I just re-read the Eclipse FAQ on Ms. Meyer’s site… Loved the Thumb Wars quote!! When I was 11 I could literally recite that whole movie!! I Know, I Know, I just offically stamped “DORK” on my forehead.

  22. Becki Olivieri says:

MY AUNT IS CATHERINE HARDWICK!!! SHE IS DIRECTING THE TWILIGHT MOVIE!!! HOPEFULLY SHE CAN GET ME A PART!!! OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG!!

  23. Kim says:

oh my gosh, it seems so real now! I’ve been a fan of Steph’s since the begining!! I was one of the only people at the signing with a hardcover of Twilight that I didn’t get off ebay!!! I can’t believe it’s going to be a movie, just as long as I’m allowed to play bella, that’s fine! That’s the only way I’d be happy…. :)

  24. Becki says:

I AM SOOO EXCITED THAT MY AUNT IS PRODUCING THE MOVIE!!! * yells*

  25. Gabi says:

I can’t belive that Melissa Rosenbreg (the writer for the movie) is from North Carolina! Thats where I live! This rocks! And I love The OC. It’s just North Carolina is not a well known state and the fact that the writer for a movie that is one of the most populair books around is so cool! Anyway I can’t wait for the movie to come out. I hope Melissa Rosenbreg does a good job on writing the movie too. Ya N.C.

  26. Gabi says:

Oh and I love Catherine Hardwicke. Vanilla Skies was one of the best movies ever. With her and Melissa Rosenbreg (yay) this movie is to be a hit.

  27. Amber says:

OMG! the Updates were Awesome! the FAQs… OMG!

  28. edwardluvr says:

im so glad me and my friends question is on FAQ i mean stephenie acutally read wow that is cool. well i think.
i hope they do a good job on the movie.
that would be so cool if they shot it in forks

  29. Nicole says:

Wow. The movie is actually coming together.

I am still undecided about the movie. In one way it sounds way cool and everything.

And in other way, ‘Twilight’, could be ruined on the ‘big screen’.

Either way, I’ll still see the movie and support Stephenie all the way!! :D

    GO STEPHENIE!!!

  30. ashley says:

    Becki-

that is totally awesome!!! (that sounded really corny though, lol)

that would be cool if you got a part (perhaps you can convince her with putting some fans in there) JUST KIDDING :)

  31. Nicole says:

Also it was great reading the ‘Q & A’ on her website! :D

  32. ashley says:

sorry for leaveing so many comments =)

but i forgot to thank stephenie for the updates and stuff within her hectic schedule, thanks so much stephenie!!!! most authors don’t care to do what you do!!!!

  33. hannah says:

this is the first time on and im really liken the site its AWESOME. i sent the address to all my friends. every one at my school and high school have read the books we’re hooked!
    bella rules!

  34. Megster says:

Wow, this is awesome!!! And ya know I saw the perfect actor for Emmett. In X-men 2…I think it’s 2…w/e well in X-men 2 and 3 the guy that is rly rly big and can turn in iron, he is perfect! He had short brown hair (in the movie). When I saw him Emmett immediately came to my mind. Srsly!

…sometimes I wonder if I rly want a movie, I don’t want to sound like a party pooper but I’m so worried that the movie won’t serve justice to this book, it’s just TOO amazingly wonderfully uber awesome. I am happy for SM, and don’t get me wrong, I AM excited but I don’t want ppl to get the wrong view of the book. W/e I’m sure Stephenie will make sure the movie is great.

  35. Barbara says:

I’m really glad to see the writer… She wrote a few episodes of Dexter on Showtime and I love that show. The show is genious. If she can write that well, this movie should turn out great :)

  36. lil_voice1 says:

YES!!!! finally the movie is going to happen!!!! at least mtv didnt get it…thats all i can say!!!! the FAQs are good on stephenie’s site too!!!!!

  37. Jesseh says:

This is absolutely amazing. :] But I’m curious as to when Eclipse’s backstory will be released. Sigh. Patience is hard. xD

  38. FAQ update rocks! :D
That’s awesome that Summit studios wants to do it right… apparently MTV didn’t. Lol.

  39. Mimi says:

One a side-side note: Pel’s side note made me chuckle endlessly. Thanks a ton for gathering all the need to know’s in one spot ladies.

  40. Brianna says:

personally i think that they should get good unknown actors cause then everyone won’t already have an opinion on them. some people i just say no it cant be them cause of this and so forth.

  41. jill and abby perkins says:

okay… well when i first saw your website and saw who might be playing the cast for twilight. I thought that you picked the most perfect person for Edward. HENRY CAVIL!! when i first read the book i thought Edward looked exactly like Henry. Me and my sister in law Abby thought you were doing the best thing to have him as Edward. and i know that you don’t have a say who you want to be in the movie, but they really need to think about considering Edward. In twilight you describe Edward like he is around 23, when he is really 17. well… HENRY CAVIL HAPPENS TO BE 24!! he is perfect. please don’t have them lose henry for Edward. you really don’t know how angry some people will be. please…….?
♥- Jill Perkins, and my sister in law Abby Perkins.

  42. ashley says:

i TOTALLY agree with Jill and Abby Perkins!

henry is ,like, a edward clone, its almost freaky how much they look alike. don’t get rid of henry just cause he is 24, a lot of actors and actresses play parts younger then they really are (for instance Julie Gonzalo, who plays parts that are like 17 and 18, when she is almost the same age as henry-she would also be perfect for Rosalie btw-)
please please have Henry play the part of Edward, most of us have already decided on him in our minds, it would be weird to see someone else play edward cause then the whole entire movie all i will be thinking about is how much better henry could play edward.
    please think about it!

  43. Claire says:

I think for further movies and this one, I think Liv Tyler would be for the role of great Victoria! and I don’t like Emily browning for Bella though. Henry Cavill would be fine for Edward but nobody would be perfect. I can’t wait 4 Breaking Dawn!! After reading eclipse my life felt so… Suckish! and Lame!

  44. Chima Cullen says:

Oh Ma Gosh!!! I can’t wait for the movie!!!! But I’m just afraid it will take a long time, but when I see the previews, I will SCREAM!!! *sighs* I don’t know if my patience will last long though…

The updates on the site, are what I have been waiting for like since Eclipse came out! Thanks SOOO much Stephanie and the webmaster!

I don’t know if I can say this here, but if I can’t then just delete this post. I think the guy on Big Brother 8, Nick, would be the PERFECT Emmet! When I fist saw him I was like, even though he is just some random person, he is what my Emmet would look like!

    Waiting for more updates. Bye!!

  45. palefires says:

Catherine Hardwicke? *groan* This does not bode well for the film at all. Hardwicke? Really? This is such a bad idea I am seriously speechless.

And, just so people know, she was a production designer on films like Vanilla Sky and Three Kings. Not director. She’s only directed Thirteen, Lords of Dogtown, and The Nativity Story.

  46. Becki says:

CATHERINE HARDWICKE ROCKS!! BETTER NEWS? SHE’S MY AUNT AND SHE’S DIRECTING THE KOVIE!!! YEEAAHH.

  47. Claire says:

I think the movie is going to be disappointing compared to the books there so good! It’s not going to look the way I imagined….

  48. Ria says:

I have seen Mrs. Meyer’s update. But now I wonder, will the Lexicon be updated soon? I noticed that the timeline has been updated, but what about the characters’ bios? My friend and I had a fight about Emily’s maiden name, and we came here to see who was right. But she isn’t even included on the list! That was a smack in the face. We had to dig through Eclipse to find out [for the record, I was right; her name was Emily Young] but it would have been easier to find if you could please update that page. Or add one in Emily’s case. Jasper’s and Rosalie’s pages could use a bit of TLC too. Thank you!

  49. Becki says:

    Ashley-

Lol. I know it was corny. *crosses fingers* I’ve never actually met ehr, which kinda sucks, but her sister loves me…:)

  50. Becki says:

    palefires:

Every one is entitled to their own opinion, but I would appreciate it if you wouldn’t insult my aunt in public. She is very talented and has done much more than what you said. Thanks.
