It’s Official, Eclipse Knocks Potter off the Top Perch
Posted by pelirroja - 16/08/07 at 08:08 amUSA Today is reporting that Eclipse in it’s 10th day of release has knocked Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows off of its number one spot on the USA Today list.
Once again, we love Harry Potter and don’t wish any ill will to JK Rowling and her fans. Also, once again, no one is trying to compare the literary merit of the two books, especially since they are not in the same genre (HP=hero’s quest vs. Eclispe=romance) other than they are primarily directed to YA fantasy readers.
On the other hand, this is quite a sales accomplishment. It has taken other novels much longer to do this than it has Eclipse.

Wow that is truely amazing. I can’t imagine how Stephenie is feeling right now, knowing that her books really are up there on the Harry Potter Epidemic Scale. Congradulations Stephenie, a fantastic accomplishment!!!

That’s really great. It’s pretty amazing that a YA book was able to top the charts, and that a YA/children’s book is keeping the top spot for, what, a month now?
I don’t know that HP will bounce back and take the top spot again. Most people who love HP have already bought their books, and so while they’ll keep selling, the mad rush is over. For Eclipse, not as many people know the books so they’ll probably stay at about the same level for a little while longer whie a large amount of the world ordered their HP book during the first week, if not the first day.
Although there will be more HP rushes as they start coming out in translations.

i was amzed at this book. i loved it. me and my friends waited for three months for this book to get out!! i have my whole family reading it!! we all had to get our own copies!! it was the best book ever and i have been a loyal Harry Potter fan for years. well ever since the first one came out. it was a wonderful book and i hope that you will continue on because it was amazing. and i loved it.
and you should know that you have soo many peoples support!!
uhhh i LOVE harry potter. id just like to say that the twilight series are my 2nd favorite series of books and that theres a reason why j.k. rowlings books sell more. not to be negative, this is a HUGE accomplishment but i have to stick up for harry. i think that when ppl say that harry potter is stupid because it doesnt have romance in it is really dumb because harry potter isnt a romance novel half wit. long live hp. however congrats to stef. : l
Wow! I am,actually was,a die hard hp fan.that was before i found Twilight at the library. now i’m hooked! i was at the release party for hp and it’s no joke. when we came in the lady up front asked if we had a reservation. there were alot of people there! the line went to the back of the store. so this statement has more meaning to me than to others. Twilight has turned many many die hard hp fans to romance sap. now i can’t go 2 minutes without thinking/saying something Twilight/vampire related!
Long live Twilight! (and Stepenie, and Edward and vampires and the Cullens and anything Twilight related)

Personally I agree with Girl. I love twilight and all, it’s just that everyone has already bought Harry Potter. I mean, if you haven’t bought it already, then you’re pretty far behind.
I love harry potter and twilight, i mean, i couldnt possibly choose which one i like better, however, not so many older people are really into the whole, sort of hardcore fantasy, like harry potter. and also they can just go and watch the film, which, unfortuantely is not yet possible for twilight. i mean, it still is a GREAT acheivement and i fell elated for the popularity of eclipse, but also rather furious that any book made it past harry potter. i guess its cause, im from england and eclipse/new moon/twilight are really really not that well known over here, honestly, there is this huge shopping centre wher i live there are like 7 bookshops and only one of them had 1 copy twilight, and none of them had new moon or eclipse. so ive had to order it (still not come yet, grr) so im not used to books beating harry potter, and i have no idea what it is thats actually nominating these books so i dont really have a clue whether this is a huge thing or not.
anyway, its a great step for eclipse, and i hope it encourages british bookshop owners to take an interest and BUY COPIES…
I tried geting into HP but never could then my friend told me about twilight and i saw how big it was and was like that will take me all summer! then i started readin it and it only took me a day! i also read new moon and eclipce they were great now i have 2 wait 4 the next one congrats steph!!!!!!!
dont worry frozen in time me and my friend (Vampirelvr) are like that if one thing reminds us of twilight we get all happy. lol like one time we were taking the husks of corn and my friends like hey husk thats wat steph says about jacobs voice. o ya her little sisters are like 6,4 and we taught them all bout twilight. so somtimes her little sister libby sings around the house “edward bit sammy and now she is a vampire” it is so funny or “Jacob is a dumb were wolf”

It’s not a competion guys. There are going to be HP fans, Twilight fans, & fans that love both books…..
Gosh it doesn’t how many books Harry Potter sells or how many Eclipse sells…..it is the actual book itself that matters….not that it isn’t great to hear Stephenie is kicking butt everywhere.
Just enjoy books, don’t fight about it!! Totally not worth it!!

The Twilight Saga and the HP Series are both absolutely wonderful books (both my favourite books along with CP’s Inheritance!) so refrain from bugging Harry Potter down. *Saying those things wouldn’t help SM’s fanbase at all!* Have you any idea how many fans JKR has?! We need them to appreciate Twilight, not hate it!

i am a DIE HARD Harry Potter fan but im also reading Twilight and i have to say that Potter is a little better when it comes to the style of writing. The Potter stories and really complex and its amazing the way jk rowling managed to weave it, neatly finishing it with Deathly Hallows.
I dont know how I feel about this. I know that harry potter wont forever be on the number one spot in book charts, but i guess this was just too soon to happen.

Let’s just remember that if it werent for Harry Potter, most young adults wont even VISIT a bookstore. Harry Potter is the book that encouraged reading among the youth and it was, after all, the FIRST to make it to the top of the list, notb the twilight books.
