Summit has now changed the status of Twilight to coming soon on its main page.

Fans Back Stephenie Meyer

Aside from the Twilight Support Quilt and forthcoming Video that a number of Twilight Sites banded together to form. There have been other sites and individuals speaking up on Stephenie’s behalf.

First out of the box is Kaleb, Mr. Twilight Guy himself, who provides us with an analysis on his blog entitled "In Defense of Stephenie Meyer".  He talks about recent events from an unpublished writer’s view, as well as general reaction to fan opinion of Midnight Sun and Breaking Dawn.

Next Shannon Hale, Newberry Award winning author of the Princess Academy, posts part 2 of her blog response on how to be a reader and answers the question what if anything do authors owe their fans.

Now getting down to what we would call grass roots efforts. The following sites and individuals have also rallied.  It should be noted that there are 100’s of different support efforts and it would be impossible to post about all of them, but taking a look around comments in entries you can probably find anything we may have missed.

Don’t Mess With Steph!  A place for adult fans made by the Lexicon’s SomethingBlue so that adult fans can unite and sound off.

Want to do more than a virtual quilt? Why not submit a patch for a real one?  Love2dream and fans who congregate over on The Host index are ready to start sewing.

Intoxicated Twilight is making a support book.

The common thread that goes through all of this is one of respect. It has nothing to do with liking or disliking a particular book. In fact at least two of the above projects were started by people who didn’t like Breaking Dawn. What much of this has to do with is the utter lack of respect and civility certain people have expressed when something has not gone their way.

Sure you can say anything you want and you have a right to be heard. Regardless, there is a difference between an impassioned, articulate speaker with conviction like some of the women featured at recent political conventions who clearly have opposing views vs. someone who sounds like a conspiracy theorist escapee from from a sensationalist audience of a talk show. The first group has the ability to unite, to persuade and to inspire others to think deeper and to quite possibly change someone’s opinion.  The second only creates 5 minutes of what has been termed "the LULZ", and lives up to the stereotype of highly emotional women who hold grudges and can’t think straight.  Incidentally, the media loves the latter because it makes great press.

MTV Connection

Stephenie’s foray into directing Jack’s Mannequin’s new video was covered by MTV.

The MTV Video Music Awards will have Rob, Kristen, and Taylor among their presenters.  The VMA’s are tomorrow night with some fabulous performers lined up.  The show starts at 9:00, but check your local listings for exact times in your location.

In the News

Little Ashes, the indie film where you will be able to catch Rob Pattinson on screen as famous artist Salvador Dali, has a number of Rob Pattinson and movie fan sites working together. Their joint effort can be seen here.

Teen Read Week’s theme this year is Books With a Bite.  Keeping that in mind, various libraries are starting to incorporate the Twilight Saga into what seems like a natural fit to the theme.

Novel Novice just announced the winners of its August fanfic contest.

LA Times Wants Opinion

The LA Times the other day paraphrased Stephenie’s statement and reported "…author Stephenie Meyer tells her readers she has decided to discontinue "Midnight Sun…" now granted later on in the article they go on to quote Stephenie several times including her statement, "and so it is on hold indefinitely".

Unfortunately any number of readers and news outlets picked up "decided to discontinue" and didn’t pick up on the fact that Stephenie actually said "hold indefinitely" (in our opinion a slight but important variation in terms). They are now asking for follow up opinions now that people have had time to digest the news.

Twilight Teez Announces Contest

Twilight Teez has announced a contest that begins today. According to webmaster, Brian:

In the News

The Wall Street Journal seemingly reads our blog comments (waves hello to the WSJ) they have an article on Midnight Sun. (Sorry about the weird link, it won’t let us direct link for some reason. If you copy and paste the URL into your browser, it should come up.) Found the problem, it’s something to do with newest version of my Firefox browser which for reasons unknown is throwing an attempt at javascript into everything.

According to an MTV broadcast last night, Kristen Stewart will appear on the MTV Music Video Awards on September 7. The program starts at 9:00/8:00 central (but check your local listings to be sure).  Thanks to PrettyOdd14 for the heads up.

I’m sure we’ve all heard phrases like "fans devour Stephenie’s books" well it seems that one fan took that a bit literally. We’ve seen some grizzly bear cakes before, but this is the first book cake we’ve actually seen. Thanks to Christi for sharing.

Twilight Tuesday and Morning News

Larry Carroll is back for this edition of Twilight Tuesday with an interview with Catherine Hardwick and how she was caught up in the love story in "Twilight".  The MTVMovieBlog also talks with her about other films that she has worked on  and how deeply immersed she becomes in her work.

AOL is featuring "Twilight" as one of 28 upcoming movies to see.  The list includes movies such as the much anticipated DeNiro and Pachino film "Righteous Kill," Keira Knightly’s "The Dutchess," and the DiCaprio action thriller "Body of Lies."  It seems that "Twilight" is in some good company there!

And speaking of the film… we have some good news for fans in England!  The release date for "Twilight" has been moved up to Dec. 19.  Check out the Stephenie Meyer UK website for details.

Stephenie’s Breaking Dawn Website Update

Stephenie has updated her website with Breaking Dawn FAQs.

She also has a partial Midnight Sun playlist.
