Breaking Dawn Outselling Eclipse on DVD

Breaking Dawn is the most successful Twilight movie to date when you add up the domestic and foreign box office totals. It is now also the most successful on DVD. According to Reuters:

Part 1″ got off to a stronger start on home entertainment than the last “Twilight” movies, selling 3.2 million DVD and Blu-ray discs over the weekend. That is 18 percent more than the 2010 “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” took in its first weekend of home release in December 2010. “Eclipse” sold 2.7 million units its first weekend of release.

The discs went on sale at midnight on Saturday — timing reserved for big titles. Target and Walmart stores each sold exclusive versions of “Breaking Dawn” DVDs and Blu-rays, and held special events just after midnight Saturday morning.

Summit said that film also had approximately 50,000 digital sales, a 47 percent increase over “Eclipse,” and approximately 80,000 Video-on-demand transactions, a 142 percent increase over the 2010 movie.

The Breaking Dawn DVD Review

Thankfully this isn’t like New Moon where we had to buy three versions just to get all the extras! The DVD’s are basically the same content no matter who you order it from it’s the packaging perks that are different. Though the Walmart version also has Bruno Mars and Chritina Perri videos on it ( hit youtube and you can see those as they have been out for months)

So, help out your fellow Twilight fans who haven’t run to the store or online yet.

Which DVD/blu-ray did you buy?

Which retailer did you get it from?

One thing we realized this morning was that the Blu-ray special edition (the one with the packaging that matches the special editions from the other films)was only available from Target online. You could get the basic blu-ray in the store.

Also what is your favorite part in the extras?

Walmart versions
—Perk= fabric poster on the wedding dressing version

Target versions
—-Perk=prop flower used at wedding in collectors tin collectors edition

Twilight Saga DVD Retropective: What Are the Highs and Lows

In her column for Movies.com, Laura explores the history of the Twilight Saga DVD’s. Which are the fan favorites, stand-out moments, and what is missing.

The one item that fans seem to universally want is actor commentary by the three leads: Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner. The original Twilight DVD featured commentary by director Catherine Hardwicke, Pattinson, and Stewart. All of them were relative rookies in the commentary process at that time. There was a refreshing honesty in the playful banter and downright quirkiness that went on. It wasn’t canned, and it embraced the cheesier moments of the film. Pattinson’s self-deprecating comments such as, “Looking scary with a baseball outfit on and a little bouffant, you know, it just does not work. Especially with sculpted eyebrows … I’m really scary in reality…” endeared fans to him all the more. People felt as if they were watching the film with their friends commenting.

Video: Julia Jones in Boston for Breaking Dawn DVD release

Julia is the Boston are morning shows to talk about being Leah and sticking with her Jamaica Plains roots .

She also talked to Boston.com

The Boston Latin grad, who has been in the “Twilight” world ever since she was cast as the only female werewolf in the franchise, told us during an interview at the Liberty Hotel that the vampire movies are a still a huge part of her life, even though she finished filming both parts of “Breaking Dawn” last April. After this DVD release, she and the rest of the cast (including Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson) will begin to hype “Breaking Dawn — Part 2,” which comes out this fall. And after all these years, the fans are no less interested in her sad character, the brooding Leah Clearwater.

“Leah fans are kind of emotional,” Jones said, wistfully. “I’ve definitely been hugged by crying girls.”

This week for Laura’s Movies.com column, she is going to be talking about the DVDs in the Twilight Saga: which have the best extras, which commentaries were the best, and what is missing that we really want (first thing that comes to mind is a decent gag reel). The Borders New Moon edition has a special place in her heart because of the podcast material. In any case, please chime in with your opinion, and you may find yourself quoted in the Movies.com article!

Collider Looking For a Breaking Dawn DVD Reviewer

One of our favorite websites is Collider. The have excellent interviews that don’t just rehash the same old questions all of the time, and they’ve always given Twilight fans a really fair deal by not running a parade of snide comments and cheap shots with their movie news. The owner of the site, Steve, last year reached out to us looking for a reviewer for the Eclipse DVD because he wanted a fan to state if it had what fans wanted. Not being a fan himself, he wanted some “expert” advice. He found a fan reviewer, Gretchen, and she was terrific. This year he is reaching out again. Check out the details on Collider.
