New Face Friday: Meet Rami Malek as Benjamin in Breaking Dawn

As part of our ongoing New Face Friday series the Twilight fansites had a chance to interview Rami Malek who plays Benjamin of the Egyptian coven. If you need a refresher on that character, check him out in our character bios.

Have you gotten to see any of your scenes on film yet- and if so what you thought  of the special effects?

“Great question I had an ADR* session, I’m sure you guys are familiar with that right?? (ADR stands for Automated Dialog Replacement, it’s where they clean up poor quality sound in the editing room)  So I got to see some of the temporary effects they weren’t quite done but as far as I was concerned they were good enough for me- they really looked brilliant-vibrant and felt very real- I was happy to see that because there were points that I was concerned about- I’m always concerned watching a movie- when something looks as if it was developed from a computer and you can see when it looks generated by a computer it really takes one out of the film so I was happy to see that it really just looks as if I was doing these in reality”

Stephenine has recently released the “The Twilight Saga: The Official Illustrated Guide” which had a huge backstory between the Egyptian coven and I know we’ve already sampled a little bit of what we are going to see from you-did we get any of that feud with the Volturi history from you guys?

“Well after reading the novel I came to the conclusion that there was going to be a lot of work I had to do because there wasn’t that much said in her novel- so I came up with a lot of ideas and Angela who plays Tia came up with a lot of ideas and we shared them over the course of filming- and when we met Stephenie she was able to give us a real concrete backstory which wasn’t far off from the things that we had created on our own. It was a very special feeling to have that acknowledgement from her that we were on the right track with her story from things that we were coming up with from our own crazy imagination”

Rami Malek: USA Today and Instyle Face to Watch

USA Today has come up with a list of actors on teh rise and Rami Malek, who plays Benjamin, was lists:

“Rami Malek, 30

Starring in:Larry Crowne, the dramedy written and directed by Tom Hanks. Malek plays Steve, an obnoxious college classmate of Hanks, whom he knew from their 2010 HBO series The Pacific. Steve “gets by on doing the least amount of work he can possibly do. He’s a fun-loving guy who partakes in a little pot-smoking now and then,” Malek says.

Next up:The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 2, which features Malek as bloodsucker Benjamin. “The idea of playing a vampire always seemed very cool to me,” Malek says. “I want to fly under the radar and do character parts, and this is one of them, but it also comes with the massive appeal of the Twilight movie.” He’s also shooting Paul Thomas Anderson’s top-secret drama, about which he reveals nothing. “They made me refrain from saying anything other than I am in the movie. I’m not getting in trouble on this one!”

And off-screen: The California native loves the great outdoors and has a green thumb. “I live surrounded by nature and I like to be out and do all that stuff. I go for road trips. I just like getting out and enjoying the beautiful weather.”

Instyle also has a similar story with an additional feature on new cast members.

USA Today: Rami Malek On Working With Julia Roberts, Tom Hanks, and Bill Condon

Rami Malek who plays Benjamin in Breaking Dawn is in the upcoming Toms Hanks and Julia Roberts film Larry Crowne. Rami talked about working with these two modern movie giants and the Twilight Saga with USA Today:

“It [working on Larry Crowne] was an experience where you just kind of watch what’s happening. You can’t take your eyes off her[Julia Roberts] and he [Tom Hanks]has you in stitches the entire time. Some call it work, but I wouldn’t call it that.”

In November, Malek bites into The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1, playing a vampire. So is he team Edward or team Jacob? “Wow. No comment on that one. I’m team Bill Condon, how about that,” says Malek, giving the director a shoutout.”
