Mike Welch Could Use The Help of Twilight Fans

From day one, Mike Welch has been one of the most supportive and gracious actors associated with the Twilight Saga movies. Please help him out if you can.

Anyone who has ever met Mike at a convention or at the red carpet can attest to his sincerity and generosity with fans.

Hey Friends!

I just launched a new campaign with Thirst Project for the month of July and I would love your help.

For those of you who don’t know, Thirst Project (thirstproject.org) is a non-profit that builds clean water wells in developing countries. I’ve been working with them for about 4 years. They’ve reached nearly half a million high school and college students around the US on their annual school tour, raised millions of dollars, and have gotten clean water to hundreds of thousands of people in 11 different countries in Asia, Africa, and South America. They are the world’s largest youth-oriented clean water charity.

For the month of July, I’m trying to raise the funds to build a well in Swaziland, a small nation just north of South Africa. This well will cost $12,000 and get clean water to 500 people in desperate need. All I’m asking people to give is 10 bucks. That’s it. I would’ve made it 5 but the website I’m working through has a minimum of 10. Feel free to give whatever you like, but I’m trying to prove that small actions, cumulatively, can make the world a better place. 10 bucks is all we need and we got this in the bag!

Michael Welch Reflects on Life After the Twilight Saga

Breaking dawn Part 1 marked the last Twilight film for Michael Welch, who by-the-way coined the term Twi-Hard back in spring 2008. Here is what he had to say to

You’ve finished shooting Twilight. What are you going to miss most about filming the saga?

I really enjoyed playing Mike Newton. It was a fun, uncomplicated role that I connected with pretty easily. I’ll miss Mike, but mostly, I’ll miss hanging out and working with the people who I made good friendships with over the years. Making these movies kind of felt like summer camp. We would all get together once a year, far away from home, usually for about two weeks in my case, and create something together. We worked hard, but mostly, we just had a lot of fun.

Twilight has been a part of your life for many years now. What was the last day on set like for you?

I just tried to just take everything in with gratitude and joy. Experiences like that don’t come around very often, so I really wanted to enjoy the moment, share it with my friends, be proud of what we had all accomplished, and be happy to have been a part of something so incredible.

What’s the funniest fan experience you’ve ever had?

The first time a girl cried when she met me was the funniest experience to me. I certainly wasn’t laughing at her vulnerability, just at the situation. I almost felt like a con man, like I had somehow tricked this poor girl into thinking I was a really important member of society, that my very presence should cause her to shake and bring tears to her eyes. The first few months of the Twilight experience were really wild. It was 0-100 overnight. One minute I was just some dude, the next, crowds of people were screaming at me and some girls were suddenly crying at my feet. It’s hard to describe what that’s like.

You have to love the thoroughly honest answer Mike Welch gave to E!’s Marc Malken about seeing the Edward and Bella honeymoon on the big screen.

“I have not seen [it],” Michael Welch told us of Robsten’s Breaking Dawn bed scene at the Second Annual Thirst Project Gala in Beverly Hills. “And I’ll be honest, I can’t say I’m looking forward to it, because these are good friends of mine and I don’t really want to see that.”

See more of Mike Welch’s comments supporting his co-stars in their other projects here.

Mike Welch: Success on Bones and in Unrequited

Check out Mike on last week’s episode of Bones here.

Mike was also named the Best Actor for his role in Unrequited at the First Glance Film Festival.

What’s Michael Welch Up To?

We just heard from Mike Welch’s team and he’s got a bunch going on:

For starters, Mike just completed a (short film) with veteran actor Erick Avari called Chasing Eagle Rock. He is currently shooting a lead role in a new Indie Film. More to come on that.

Bones episode “The Feet on the Beach” Air Date: April 7 or 14. They have been told 2 different possibilities. Please check local listing. They’re shooting the body farm episode this week, which features Mike (with whom Nathan and Bones creator Hart Hanson worked on CBS’ Joan of Arcadia) guest-starring as a grad student.

The episode description reads: “They find body parts that have been washed up on the shore between Canada and the United States, and they trace them back to a flood that occurred at a body farm. A body farm is a forensics apology lab at a university where they put corpses in various different situations and environments to study how they decompose.”

Mike’s $5.00 Buck Club reached the Goal to drill a well in South Africa and had money left over to repair another well. thirstproject.org

Mike has made a commitment to Co Chair “Walk on the Horizon”, a fund raiser for adults with disabilities in June. The person who raises the most money with have lunch with Mike. http://www.newhorizons-sfv.org .

From their site: “Join us on Sunday, June 5, 2011 at California State University – Northridge as we walk to fulfill the dreams of adults with developmental disabilities.” (Mike has not been put up on their web-site yet, but lunch is confirmed and he will be there if he is working.)

To us Mike embodies the concept of the working actor. He does a ton of projects each year from live theatre to television to movies. Mike is also super involved with many charitable projects as he always has been. Last year Mike toured with the USO teaching acting classes overseas to children with parents in the military. Good luck to Mike on all his projects!
