Chaske Spencer in Five O’Clock Heroes Video

Chaske Spencer is the roommate of Adam Morse the bassist from the band Five O’ Clock Heroes. He’s frequently talked about the Brooklyn-based group on the official Twilight tour. Now he’s in their video for the song Rough Boys. In an interview the band had this to say about the song and their relative anonymity in the USA:

IRR: Is there a song on the new album that will hook us? Why would it do that?

Five O’Clock Heroes: “Rough boys”. new single. good chorus. nice verse. nice build to the pre-chorus. hahaha. i guess we always strive to make melodic songs. songs with chorus’s. i like a strong chorus. i grew up listening to bands who deliver strong and direct chorus’s.

IRR: You guys are an American band, so why haven’t you ever released an album in the States?

Five O’Clock Heroes: We couldn’t get a deal here. but we had friends who took us on tour in the UK. so we put some credit cards together, paid for it and toured with them, luckily we met a few people along the way who were kind enough to release our albums in the UK and Europe….”

Chaske Spencer and Gil Birmingham’s Shouting Secrets Trailer Released

Shouting Secrets starring Gil Birmingham and Chaske Spencer just released its trailer. At TwiTour in Orlando, Chaske said that they will be bringing the film out on the festival circuit so look for it at places like Southwest, Tribecca, and Toronto. They won’t have it at Sundance because it was still being edited at the submission deadline.

Shouting Secrets – Trailer
Uploaded by thevampireclub. – Full seasons and entire episodes online.

Here’s  the description on the official website:

“SHOUTING SECRETS is the universal story about a family coming back together under the chaotic event of a parent’s sudden illness.

Siblings separated by their past along with their misunderstood father are left dealing with each other both in the tight confines of the hospital where their mother June now lays in a coma and back at the old family home on a Native American reservation in the nation’s southwest.

Although growing up within the circumstances unique to their ancestry, the children have each followed distinctly different paths in order to separate themselves from each other and their upbringing on the reservation. Wesley, the middle child, is a young author who found his fortune by writing a “fictional” tell-all of life on the reservation at the expense of his family. Tushka, Wesley’s brother, is a washed up athlete who falls victim to his own mediocrity, finding adultery with a young “Lolita” to fulfill his need to once again matter to himself. Pinti, the youngest, seeks love in the embrace of a musician and is left dealing with how to tell the family that she is pregnant with her Caucasian-pot-smoking-Buddhist-of-a-boyfriend’s child.

June, mother to the three children, is the beacon of this family and the light of her husband Cal’s life…but now that she’s not strong enough to hold the torch anymore, will the family be strong enough to hold it together?

Cutting through the harsh themes of family struggle with the precise balance of honest humor and raw conflict, Shouting Secrets relates to the moment we all will eventually be forced to deal with as a family ages together, regardless of the effort we can try to take to avoid those we are bonded to for a lifetime.”

Chaske Spencer Motley Press Interview

chaske_gilMotley Press has an interview with Chaske Spencer that covers a lot of new turf.  It’s in PDF format. Chaske’s interview starts on page 12.

It is a long journey from the Northern Cheyenne and Nez Perce reservations of Chaske Spencer’s childhood to the red carpet premiers filled with screaming fans in Hollywood and across the globe. A journey through the games of Hollywood, and one that saw Chaske in jail and confronting addiction on a path where he saw death looming in front of him. One constant for Chaske on his journey has been his traditional beliefs which helped him find his center through fame garnered as Sam Uley on the set of Twilight and the harrowing time he spent in jail in New York. Chaske took the time to discuss his journey with us, starting with the whirlwind of
the last year and what his current projects are.
Chaske Spencer: I just finished a movie called Shouting Secrets. I’m pretty proud of that one. We did it in Globe Arizona and I really liked the story. I found out that the script is also written by Steven Judd who is a native American screenplay writer and very talented. It was first written for a Dutch family and they were trying to get it financed and for some reason they switched over to a Native American family and I did not know that when I first read it, so it doesn’t really read as a Native American movie. It is like a family movie and the people just happen to be  Native American. It was a different twist on things. It was totally a movie written for a Dutch family and you know it just interested me. I really like the character I play.

I finished that project and I’m gearing up to do Breaking Dawn in November. I think we’re shooting through March. After that I’m gearing up doing Winter in the Blood, the James Welch Novel, with Andrew and Alex Smith who did the Slaughter Rule.

CNN: Chaske Spencer the Vampires of Washington DC

Chaske Spencer was on CNN’s Parker Spitzer, news commentary show featuring two anchors each with different political perspectives(the show has been taking a beating in the ratings and via the critics). They have different people on each week to to talk about a variety of issues often from the common citizen’s point of view. Chaske was addressing the overall feeling corruption in politics that spans both major parties.

We normally don’t do political stuff around here except for encouraging people to vote no matter what their political leanings. Since Chaske was on the program, and he’s not speaking about a specific political party, we are covering it. For the personal sanity of our mods, can we request that the comments don’t turn into referendum on either party. When it comes to political corruption, there are more than enough morons in every party to go around.

Chaske Spencer Speaks Candidly About Addiction at Kent State

Lexicon reader Alex (Freebird1790 on Twitter) had the chance to hear Chaske Spencer speak at Kent State. She was really excited to hear Chaske speak, and she asked if she could give us the details. Here is her report. Tonight Chaske is speaking at  Colorado State in Fort Collins tonight. The genreal public can attend for $3.00; it’s free for current students.

Chaske Spencer Experience

When I think of Kent State, sports, history and academics come to mind. It is not really a school that outside of sports or love of history, that anything exciting happens. So when I saw the headline “Chaske Spencer to Speak at Kent State” I was elated!

I am obviously a Twilight fan but he wasn’t coming to talk about Twilight. He came to talk about his drug addiction and his alcoholism and how he is trying to make a difference.

When I found out about it I immediately asked my friend to come along with me. She has come to everything with my including Creation Entertainment Convention’s. So we put our names in the drawing to win a Meet and Greet with him and patiently waited to see if we would be lucky enough to win. We didn’t win unfortunately, and I was sad because I thought it would be so cool to have a picture with him to add to this experience posting. So I contacted the head of the organization that was holding this and asked if I could get a picture with him, and she said yes!

Basically the whole entire week leading up to his appearance, I was so excited! Then I got nervous the day of his appearance. I had met some of the people from Twilight before but it was always a couple of seconds, take a picture, thank them and leave. But this time I was able to go into the meet and greet and meet Chaske.

When I got up to the suite and after the meet and greet group left, I along with my friend went in with another girl to meet him. Chaske was the most relaxed, funny, kind and most humbled person! He shook my hand and sat back down asking us to sit down! I told him what I was doing and he said “Of course I know Twilight Lexicon!” He said, “I think they were around the New Moon set, and they are pretty cool.” So that was awesome that he knew who I was going to write to. I asked him for a picture and I got one with just him and I, and also one with my friend and me. He then offered to sign something, and luckily I had thought to bring my Twilight book. He signed it, being very funny, and we talked a little more, hugged him and then went downstairs.

My friend and I walked out of that room on cloud nine!

His presentation was very inspiring. He didn’t hold anything back about his drug and alcohol addictions. He said that he was always into movies and knew in the back of his mind that he wanted to act. He continued to let us into his past, and I think for any great speaker you must tell the truth. He said the scariest part in his entire life was when he arranged to go to rehab. He said nothing was scarier than the process of getting out of bed, walking to the shower, getting dressed, walking to the door, opening the door, and then stepping into the car and going to rehab. He said that when he was in rehab, he just wanted to get his soul back.

When he got the part of Sam in New Moon, he was excited and didn’t realize that on the day that he signed his contract was the anniversary date of his sobriety. When he said this I got chills, because it was almost as if someone was saying “Here is your second chance”. Before New Moon, he had never heard of Twilight, and he joked about how he googled it saying, “Oh shit, this is HUGE!” On the plane ride to Vancouver, he watched the first movie.

Through Twilight, he knew that he could help make a difference. He felt that he owed it to everyone to try and do what he could to help others that were and could be in his situation. He wanted to “pay it forward”. So he got involved in United Global Shift and also ‘Be the Shift’. He wanted to bring a “Sustainable change, not just a band-aid.”

Chaske said that he is thankful for many things. He is thankful for being alive, knowing that statistically he is not supposed to be here. He is thankful that he was outed about his addictions because he is now able to help others, and most of all he is thankful for his teeth! (He has a very nice smile, by the way). He also said that his relationship with his family is great! He even brought his parents to the New Moon premiere.
At only his 3rd time speaking about his past specifically, he really made me want to see what I can do to help. He was so inspiring and I was able to tell him that after his presentation. I am so thankful that he agreed to share his story and that Kent State held it. It is people like Chaske who can help make a difference and inspire us to all be better people; and that is exactly what he did for me.
