MTV has a round up of the upcoming 2009 films featuring the stars of Twilight.
RUMOR MILL: We would like to know the fate of Taylor Lautner in upcoming movies as much as anyone; however, a report citing an E! story that Taylor is "safe in his job and Michael is a rumor" is 100% false. Someone is merely recirculating roughly three week old footage that came out prior to the news that Taylor was fighting for his role. To date Taylor’s fate in future Twilight movies remains unknown. As soon as we know, you’ll know.
I love Taylor and i’m glad he’s keeping his job…..but what i want to know is how will they make him taller…….?

I guess I’m in the minority in thinking that while Taylor was a great Jacob he is neither tall, nor mature looking enough to play Jacob at the time of his change. Remember, he’s supposed to look 25 after the change? Taylor looks 16 max, and I doubt he can bulk up enough. The only viable option I see to maintain authenticity is to get an older, more muscular actor who looks sort of like Taylor to play Jacob in New Moon. I just don’t see Taylor pulling it off, physically. It’s not too much of an imagination stretch to replace the actor, seeing as how Bella hasn’t seen him for a while and even remarks on how much bigger he’s gotten. So, unless they plan on giving Taylor growth hormones, which is quite unethical, I don’t see it being feasible.

i feel bad for taylor, but if they are going to actually get this movie out in november, they are going to need an actor who can work more than 5 hours a day. plain and simple. i’m really surprised it’s taking this long to make a decision!
I think the decision has probably already been made, since Taylor met with the director 3 weeks to a month ago. I just think we haven’t been clued in yet. In my opinion, no news, may be bad news for Taylor fans. If they were keeping him as Jacob then I am sure they would let the fans know right away.
All of this is frustrating.I really want to know who’s portraying Jacob in New Moon.
Taylor was a perfect Jacob in Twilight but I think it would be better if they cast Steven Strait(and I hope not Michael) in New Moon.
The fact of the matter is that they created a fissure earthquake in the fandom that ignited passions and if they do replace him then the person is going to be surrounded by all this controversy, look twilight gets no special treatment when it comes to the criticism of replacing actors in the middle of events, its bad practice. This movie has too much drama surrounded, maybe this is why sequels often fail. A vast majority feel he should keep his role, its a movie which probably should have a little creativity in it, usually good ones do. Who knows where this disaster is headed. The longer the silence the more lethal it could become

Michael Copon is an arrogent jerk. If they replace Taylor than pick someone else beside him. He has not one iota of Native American in him. He’s not a good actor and only wants to buy into the Twilight series to look good. I know Summit can do better than him. Atleast I hope they can.
To all of you who are complaining about taylor not being tall enough/not old enough looking, look at the other actors they cast. Sorry to tell you but rob does not look like a 17 year old at all, and guess what, no one cares.
It’s unfair to taylor that everyone is complaining about his height when there are other actors in the roles that don’t fit their character physically. They all did a great job, and Taylor already proved he can too.

I love how everyone is saying that Taylor won’t be tall enough but last time I checked Jacob is ‘closer to seven’ feet by Breaking Dawn. So, if we’re basing the reason for getting rid of Taylor on his height that means we’ll have to get rid of Michael too.
I think they should keep Taylor because he’s already proven himself as an actor and he is already trying to get physically ready for the role.
Besides, everyone forgets that Jacob is only sixteen. Who better to play a 16 year old then a 16 year old?

Well although the height can be a problem, don’t they already have to use CGI? B/c Sam is supposed to be, like, the biggest one, but he isn’t.
And although Jacob is supposed to become bigger, his face isn’t supposed to change. He’s supposed to have the same adorable face that Bella remembers. His face is still supposed to look like a 16-year-old, and Copon’s face DOES NOT look like a 16-year old’s face.

I love Taylor. His smiles and laughter are the perfect “PERSONAL SUN” that Bella needs in New Moon. And though I’m all for keeping movies like books, I think in a movie having someone who looks older than he actually is (as Jacob is supposed to) would be strange. Copon has already proved himself to be rather arrogant and not familiar to the books… which is so NOT the Jacob I want. KEEP TAYLOR!
Having just reread New Moon, I don’t see how they can keep Taylor as Jacob. Physically, he will not resemble Jacob as the story progresses and no amount of “bulking up” will change that. He is 16 and he looks it. They need an older actor.
LOL! Taylor got all of, what, maybe 15 minutes in the movie? And that is reason enough to prove he can act as Jacob? All the fan girls freak out that Taylor won’t be picked to finish out the role of Jacob, but I think it’s the fact that everyone is biased towards the actor and not the character.
The height factor is indeed annoying enough, but I think they might be able to make it work.
Could they use visual effects to make him look older? Possibly, but that could cost a ton of money that would be better spent in creating realistic wolves for the werewolf scenes.
Can Taylor possibly bulk up enough (being that he is only a teenager) to play the role of the older Jacob? Not likely. He is only a teenager, and no matter how much he works out, he’s not likely to pull of a 25 year old’s buffed up bod.
Don’t get me wrong. Taylor Lautner did a good job for Jacob, but if I were to choose, I would have him play Jacob for the beginning of New Moon and have Steven Strait take over when the transformation begins.
Look up STEVEN STRAIT on IMDB. He looks like Taylor Lautner’s older brother. I like the fact that their noses are more similar than compared to Michael Copon. His work in 10,000 BC is what I compare to Jacob. Granted, we could do without the facial hair and dreadlocks, but I think he would be the best replacement… unless Taylor Lautner has an unknown older brother.
All of this has created an unnecessary distraction and will continue to if Taylor is replaced because the person will have a glowing sign over his head for the twi hards to lash out and some will,this whole size thing is the most ridiculous issue when a majority thinks he can reprise the role, it’s bad practice period, it’s annoying and distracting the whole time during a movie and the exaggeration that Bella couldn’t physically recognize is a stretch when she says it is his facial expression that changes Jacob. People don’t want someone who does not appreciate the character. Taylor gets Jacob, you don’t recast major characters that are VISIBLE in a fan driven franchise.Nothing in New Moon is going to be exactly like the book word for word, the physical descriptions have already be skirted and it will not kill the plot or cause a deviation that will change the outcome,it will be an ADAPTATION especially if they are going to ADD to the middle of the book when Jacob and Bella reunite. This is not Taylor’s movie to carry nor Rob’s it is Kristen’s movie, she is portraying Bella, this is Bella’s story, not Edward’s or Jacob’s. The cast wants him to stay and why take unnecessary risk that can leave a franchise burned.There are more people who won’t mind Taylor reprising his role than the number of people who are gleeful of a replacement with a cliff note it actor who has no regard for the fandom. It is the fandom that drives this franchise, the folks who do the conventions, the stand ins, etc.
I wish they’d hurry up and let us know so I can know whether or not to be excited for the movie. If Taylor’s out, so am I.
In New Moon Bella says that the biggest change it Jacob was not his physical size but the expressions on his face, his bitterness, his not being that happy source of sunshine he had been before. You need someone to be able to act to pull that off and I am confident that Taylor can. Copon? Definitely not. He can’t act to save his life.

Oh, and there’s also the fact that Copon is incredibly unprofessional (from his facebook status proclaiming to be Jacob before it was anywhere near official to his constantly belittling Taylor in interviews). Any studio who would actually hire him after that kind of behavior would be absolutely stupid.
People can argue this whole “he has to look 25″ thing all they want, but regardless Jacob has the mind of an inexperienced and naive 16 yr old who lacks experience with girls, he needs to be able to get his heartbroken…Kristen looks like she can break Taylor’s heart over Rob. I’m not of the mind that you have to fully support 100% of everything Twilight related to be a fan. So I’m ok with saying that I was thrilled to learn that they were thinking of replacing Taylor on the next movie. When I saw Twilight, he really stood out as the one really weak link. I don’t think there’s any way this kid is going to be able to turn into the broody, angst driven Jacob that comes out in New Moon.
But if they do decide to keep Taylor, they really need to do a better job with his hair. I wish there was enough time for him to grow it out long, but since there isn’t, a better wig job is a must. His bad fake hair was a HUGE distraction for me in Twilight!!!

Taylor is definatly the right choice…he might not look 25 to some but he looks a heck of alot older then any highschool kids in my school. Must be the water in Florida but we have some short, baby looking kids in highschool. They get shorter and shorter every year! Taylor looks sooo much older then im used to. And so what, I mean is any gorl really going to look at his face? I mean he suppose to look older when he turns into a wolf.. and he’s gonna be shirtless (I feel bad for him. Its gonna be cold up there). No body is gonna care. He’s nicely built. I mean I was standing like thirty yards away from the guy in Miami and you could see his muscles poppin outta his t-shirt! Okay, I would LOVE Taylor to stay as Jacob. If they change him, I honestly won’t like the character as much as I should, and as much as I grew to like him the second time I read the saga. My reasoning (besides loving Taylor himself) is that if they want this sequel to do as well as the first, they should put a little more money and effort into special effects. They can’t honestly be as stupid as to think they will only need like a 15 million dollar raise on the budget. Use the amount needed to make him seem older. Who’s kidding? Jacob will NOT be 7 foot in the movie, so just as long as he’s tall enough to look down on Edward.
With all that being said, if they MUST replace him, PLEASE get Steven Strait. NOT Michael Copon. Rob doesn’t look 17 and Kellan doesn’t have curly hair like in the book. Taylor fits Jacob like a glove!!!
