Breaking Dawn Baton Rouge Filming: Refreshing, Frustrating, or Infuriating

The running joke among the Lexicon staffers is that they are filming Breaking Dawn in the Stalag 17 set. If you have ever seen the movie you’ll understand why. The complex where they are shooting at the Celtic Media Center in Baton Rouge is surrounded by a big fence and has lots of cinder-block type buildings with no windows.  The grounds are patrolled by a top notch security team. Seriously, all they are missing is the roaming searchlights and a couple of snarling German shepherds. You need ID and authorized clearance just to get on the property.

So the long and short of it is, other than for one brief instance when they prepped the Volturi outside and another brief instance when they shot at a local public park(which only yielded photos of shrubs and a giant green screen), no one has been able to see anything in Louisiana, because nothing has been in public view. The only shots we’ve seen are those out of Brazil that were taken by the flotilla off shore in public waters or by those residents in Rio who observed filming from their apartments or on public land by the marina district.

The ladies over at Letters to Twilight even recently commented on it. “BREAKING NEWS: Still no new set pictures or actual evidence that they’re doing anything in Baton Rouge. SHOCKING”

Cast sightings are occasionally posted on Twitter, like Robert Pattinson seen jogging in the university area and other cast members out on the town dancing, but overall there doesn’t seem to be the wild frenzy in Baton Rogue that there was in Vancouver with a bevvy of photographers camped outside their lodgings and then chasing them all over town from Starbucks to dinner events. One of our other running jokes is, “Oh look, Kellan goes to Starbucks day 92.” We actually found the turn for the hotel where we were supposed to meet for our New Moon set visit because we had seen just that many photos of the distinctive Starbucks on the corner and knew we were close.

In fact Ted Casablanca’s team over at E! Seems to have been thwarted when they attempted to get some dirt on a cast members’ night out. “No, sorry but we have bigger things to worry about than them…like the economy.”—Spokesperson for Tsunami restaurant in Baton Rouge, La., when we called to see if Hollywood Life’s item about Robert Pattinson‘s “wild, boys’ night out” had any truth to it.”

It’s pretty different from the response in Vancouver where the restaurant dished on …well…frankly what the cast dished on.

On the other hand, Bill Condon seems to do better than David Slade in the communication and photo department. We’ve gotten 3 official stills instead of crew members throwing fish in lakes.

So how do you feel about the lack of coverage: Refreshing, Frustrating, or Infuriating?

Elizabeth Reaser Talks to Marc Malken About the Ups and Downs of Acting

Liz-Peter-NikkiMarc Malken of E! caught up with Liz Reaser at Sundance and got her to talk about the ups and downs of the acting business and Breaking Dawn.

“I feel like there’s never going to be a time in my life [again] where I’m going to sit with Peter Facinelli or Nikki Reed at four in the morning with [colored contacts] in and pale makeup and laughing our butts off…giggling all day.”

But it’s way too soon to say goodbye. “We have so far to go that it doesn’t feel like we’re anywhere near the end,” she said. “Plus we’re going to promote these for a few more years, you know. So we’re nowhere near the end.”

See more at E!

Liz’s movie Homework co-starring Emma Roberts has gotten quite the buzz at Sundance.

Cover Reveal for Myra McEntire’s HOURGLASS

Myra McEntire has been a friend to the Lexicon for years.  If you are from the Nashville area you may have seen her helping run our movie events there.  In fact, when we were being asked to run an event in Nashville in November 2009, Myra volunteered to run it knowing we couldn’t be there. Today is a big day for Myra and we are helping her celebrate by revealing her book cover and hosting a giveaway!  Hourglass, Myra’s debut novel from Egmont USA, will be released on May 24th.

Synopsis:

Since the age of fourteen, Emerson Cole has seen strange things – dead things – swooning Southern Belles, soldiers, and other eerie apparitions of the past. She’s tried everything to get rid of the visions: medication, counseling, asylums. Nothing’s worked.

So when Emerson’s well-meaning brother calls in yet another consultant from a mysterious organization called the Hourglass, Emerson’s willing to give it one last try.

Michael Weaver is no ordinary consultant. He’s barely older than she is; he listens like no one she’s ever met before; and he doesn’t make her feel the least bit crazy. As Emerson ventures deeper into the world of the Hourglass, she begins to learn the truth about her past, her future–and her very life.

A seductive time-slip novel that merges the very best of the paranormal and science fiction genres, Myra McEntire’s Hourglass is a stunning debut from an author to watch

I’ve had the chance to read Hourglass and trust me you want this book.  The writing is witty and snarky.  Emerson is one of the sassiest main characters I’ve ever met and she isn’t going to let anyone push her around.  Enter Michael, the boy who has the answers, well some of them, and a wicked smile.  The story is fast paced and filled with memorable characters. (just wait until you meet Kaleb)  Add in the timeslip factor and you have a truly unique story.

One lucky winner will be receiving a signed arc and an hourglass. All you have to do is a leave a comment below and a winner will be chosen at random.  The contest is open to anyone INTERNATIONALLY (sorry for the confusion) The contest will close on January 30th at 8PM est.

Now for the big moment……………………..

Judi Shekoni Entrepreneur Extraordinaire

Judi Shekoni who plays Zafrina (vampire photo by Adonis) is quite the busy woman. She’s in Breaking Dawn, she’s going to host her own reality TV show, and now we can add hair extensions and actor advice book to that tally. Contact music has the story on both:

Hair Extensions:

“The stunning star explains, “I’ve always been wearing hair extensions since the age of 16 and I’ve definitely made a few weave mistakes in my time. It’s just always been important to me to find better techniques and to make my hair look good.

“My friend already had a company in England where she had done it before and she was interested in doing it again and so we decided to go into partnership.

“We researched it for about a year-and-a-half; all the manufacturing, and figuring everything out before we launched in 2010 and it was instantly successful. We now have stockists in Nigeria, Australia, England, America and Switzerland.”

Actor help book for actors from the UK transitioning to the USA

“I didn’t realise you needed a work permit to work. I didn’t know nothing (sic) and so basically I just spent my money trying to figure out what to do… There are so many mistakes that you make and there are so many things people don’t tell you.

“I thought it would be of great service to put this information down in a book so that someone could spend three hours reading it and get all that information, rather than it taking them three years and costing them their savings.”

“There’s also so much choice in Los Angeles – you want an acting teacher, there are 10,000 acting teachers, there are 20,000 photographers. There are so many of everything and there’s everything from hustlers who are just taking your money to people who are at the top of their craft.

“By writing the book out and publishing the book it made me feel better about some of the experiences I’ve had here.”

The Girlfriend Movie Reaches Out For Help

The movie, The Girlfriend, co-starring Jackson Rathbone is reaching out for help. The other day we mentioned how most indie films struggle for funding and hope for a distributor to pick them up. Recently, Peter Facinelli made a pitch for a friend’s film. Here is what the creative team behind The Girlfriend is doing according to their indiegogo site:

“Our Story:

Girlfriend recently premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and garnered audience and critical acclaim.  This groundbreaking film was directed by talented first timer Justin Lerner and stars Amanda Plummer (Pulp Fiction), Shannon Woodward (“Raising Hope”), Jackson Rathbone (The Twilight Saga, Last Airbender), and newcomer Evan Sneider, who delivers an unforgettable  powerful performance.

We want to deliver Girlfriend to you as soon as possible.  Our goal is to get it out in as many theatres as we can.

What we need:

We are looking to raise funds to pay for the marketing and promotion of the film. If we are able to raise enough, we will  be able to bring the film to more cities than in our initial release.

*Once Girlfriend is released a percentage of the profits will be donated to the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS).”

After this initial pitch there are a variety of ways you can donate and different levels of donation can get you everything from autographs to costumes the actors wore.

Stephenie Meyer’s Jane Austen Love Helps to Inspire Another Book

We told you about two weeks ago about Elizabeth Eulberg’s novel, Prom and Prejudice. Elizabeth is Stephenie Meyer’s publicist. Entertainment Weekly just did an interview with Elizabeth and she talks about how her book was partially inspired by Stephenie Meyer.

“In your acknowledgments you thank Stephenie Meyer for a conversation that sparked your idea for the book. What was said?

We were on tour and talking about Pride & Prejudice and the different ways it’s influenced current pop culture—from Bridget Jones’s Diary to the Bollywood movie Bride & Prejudice. And I started thinking to myself, Could it be retold from a teen point of view? Pride & Prejudice is all about the Bennett sisters trying to find a husband but I didn’t want it to be about girls in high school trying to find a boyfriend. So I was like “What do girls and boys do in high school?” And then all of the sudden the title Prom & Prejudice came to mind and I said it aloud and Stephenie was like ‘Ooh, that’s really good!”
