Mike Welch to Appear on Criminal Minds

Joe Mantegna let the cat out of the bag yesterday via Twitter that Mike Welch would be appearing on an episode of Criminal Minds where Joe Mantegna is a series regular. Joe and Mike previously worked together on the short-lived but critically acclaimed Joan of Arcadia.

Larry 411 has more details including the air date.

“Welch came to prominence as uber-nerd Luke Girardi on two seasons of Joan of Arcadia, in which he co-starred with the masterful Joe Mantegna in 45 episodes from 2003-2005.

Now he reunites with Mantegna (Special Agent David Rossi) on a new episode of Criminal Minds. The show, titled JJ, will air on September 29th on the CBS network. Joan of Arcadia alum Chris Marquette, who’s worked with Welch several times since then (Choose Connor, Remember the Daze), will also be appearing on the episode.

The series has been in the Nielsen Top 20 for the past two seasons and is on the DVR Top 10. Criminal Minds is produced by The Mark Gordon Company and CBS Television Studios.”

  1. ohmygod. Big CM fan. The episode is called JJ? That must be the one where JJ leaves the show… :’(

  2. I LOVED Joan of Arcadia when it was on CBS. It’s so funny seeing Michael as Mike Newton when all I can think of, is his geeky character Luke. The series was a heartfelt one, and I was sad to see it cancelled those years ago. I wish it would have been on a little longer.

    • Me too!! I love Joan of Arcadia & was so sad when it was canceled. To me Mike will always be Luke. I love him as Mike in the TW movies, but he will alway be geeky Luke.

  3. I am the biggest CM fan! I nearly had a heart attack when Jackson showed up. I gotta say, this news lessens the blow of JJ’s departure (doesn’t make it disappear, though).

  4. I also saw that episode with Jackson Rathbone. It was really good. At first I was like is that Jackson? Then the ending OMG ****do not read anymore if you don’t want to know the ending****

He doesn’t look half bad as woman. I thought he did a really good job on the show.

  5. I loved Joan of Arcadia. Mike’s tv siblings Amber Tamblyn and Jason Ritter were fantastic too. Great cast. One of the worst cancellations ever.
