Interesting take on the movie, though I think most people would disagree with you. I watched Twilight before reading the books and enjoyed it, yes there were a few things that I didn't understand in the beginning, however, I disagree with the comment you made about non-Twifans seeing the movie and being completely confused. I have two friends who have not read the book nor have any interest in reading them, yet they've seen both the movies and have enjoyed them. Yes the books elaborate more on why Edward leaves and comes back, etc., however, the storyline isn't the complex that a person who hasn't read the books couldn't follow.

Just saw the movie again (2nd time), and I have to say that seeing New Moon is like sex - it's even better the second time, and I can't wait to do it again.

Completely disagree with your biased review. New Moon is a very poor attempt at a movie. It is a prime example of what not to do when making a sequel and also when making a book into a movie. No wonder all the reviewers hated it - it can't stand by itself as a movie. One would need to have seen Twilight or have read New Moon to understand it at all.

There were very few highlights. Lots and lots of lowlights:

- Cinematography and the whole look of the film was very fake.
- All vampires looked ridiculous with those contact lenses. The ones used in Twilight were so much more realistic.
- Terrible direction. It chopped and changed so quickly just so that the plotline and content could follow the book. This resulted in a complete lack of atmosphere and feeling.
- Script was abysmal with lots of corny lines which made the movie laughable for all the wrong reasons.
- Brilliant soundtrack but underutilised. Chris Weitz does not appear to know anything about creating mood and atmosphere especially with the use of music.
- Not only was Alice's clothing conservative and inappropriate, so was Edward's. What teenager wears suits all the time - complete lack of congruency with the Twilight wardrobe.
- Mood of the movie was morose from beginning to end. If the actors, scriptwriter and director were trying to stick to the book, they would have realised that the mood is much lighter at the beginning and end of book compared to the middle.
- Talking about the ending, what a ridiculous ending! Instead of creating atmosphere, it competely erased it. Again shows that this movie can not stand alone as a movie. It relies wholly and soully on Twilight before it and Eclipse to come after it.
- I could go on....

Whilst Twilight wasn't the most well made movie and it only generally followed the book, it was a beautiful movie, with a realism and believeability about it. Catherine Hardwicke conveyed all the feeling and atmosphere of the book because she had a great understanding of the book and the Twilight series. Sadly, the same cannot be said of Chris Weitz.

Here's hoping that David Slade can bring Eclipse to life without crucifying it like Chris Weitz has done to New Moon.

Do guys ever post on this? I’m one at least who will, so here’s my take on the movie in two words: loved it. For the record, I do not drink beer. I do not watch sports on tv. For fun I ride motorcycles, sail, and test downhill skis for a magazine. I drink wine. I was probably the oldest male at the midnight premiere at our theater, and I loved the energy of the mostly teenage crowd. My wife says I honor my feminine side which makes me much more attractive to her as a person and a mate. I’ve read all the books twice (some three times) including Midnight Sun, own a special edition dvd of Twilight, and plan to see New Moon at least two more times in the theater and then buy the dvd. We’ve decided we’re Twihards.
I thought the screenwriter and director were very faithful to the book while making the changes necessary to make the screenplay more theatrical for a viewing audience. This and Eclipse are the two darkest books in the series, as the titles imply. To those who complain the movie didn’t follow the book, even the preface made it into the movie, for chrissake. The birthday party, Edward leaving Bella, the scene in the meadow with Laurent, Bella’s first ride on the motorcycle, her cliff jump, and her run across the plaza to stop Edward from stepping out into the sunlight were all right from the book. I was hoping to see the post-Volturi scene where Bella thinks she’s dead and Edward is just a dream until he convinces her otherwise. And of course his proposal comes before the final confrontation with Jake in the book rather than the way it’s done on film, but it was a good way to set things up for Eclipse, and I’ll take the movie even with those small changes and disappointments.
Kristen Stewart broke my heart when she was left alone in the woods, and I’m in love with her myself; Taylor Lautner did a great job portraying a 16 year old who suddenly has a possible romantic interest, weird physical changes and enormous adult responsibilities thrown at him all. The push-pull between Bella and Jake is very believable – as it is in the book. Rob Pattinson owned the part of a lover torn between his desire for the woman he has waited a century for and sacrificing his own happiness for her ultimate good. They were all terrific as far as I was concerned. The best thing about Twilight was the casting – 100% perfect. They all were even more in character in New Moon. Liked Billy Burke a lot, and Michael Sheen and Dakota Fanning.
Other observations: choice of Chris Weitz as director – someone who had managed CGI critters and special effects in a film was a must. Catherine Hardwicke made an edgier film in Twilight, but the story was also massively reworked and compressed, so I appreciated the number of scenes and dialogue that made it into New Moon from the book. The soundtrack songs are great. The score isn’t as compelling as Twilight, but it didn’t detract for me. Alice’s costumes sucked. The wolves are…wolves, and I thought quite well done. They’re not really werewolves; the Quileutes are shapeshifters, as we find out in Breaking Dawn, so critics looking for Underworld-type werewolves need to read the books. In short, the continuation of a great love story, well-adapted to the screen, with a cast of fresh faces that I can’t wait to see again (and again).

yes absolutely they were tooo yellow!! my eyes were watering in some scenes when i looked at Edwards eyes. you can tell that Rob had a hard time putting those in because his eyes looked like slits from being so irritated. I think when i read the books i imagined them more like they were in Twilight, more discreet.

funny, i felt opposite about the Jacob Bella relationship and how it was portrayed in this movie. I thought Taylor did great job but i don't think anyone was swayed over to Team Jacob based on what was shown (and i'm not talking about his abs because i'm sure those got him so new fans.) i think they could have given taylor and kristen more scenes to show how their relationship built up to this huge decision between the two guys. and as a member of team Edward i also would have liked more of the reunion. a friend who hadn't read the books called me after she saw New Moon and asked me if everything was just a dream for Bella. ididn't even realize that was what cutting out the plane ride home would do for "non fans" My friend hadn't realized that they'd all flown home. i agree everything was a little tooo quick.

I have to agree with you. I was sooo excited to see this film. I went with 11 of my girlfriends and we have been counting down the days for like 3 months. I walked out feeling like what did i just see? I don't think it was horrible but there are so many things that could have been included. I'm team Edward ALWAYS but I felt like Team Jacob fans got robbed. I don't think that anyone watching movie (who hadn't read the books) would even wonder why there are such things as Team Jacob fans. There was no build up to the Bella Jacob relationship.I mean yeah they hung out and had conversations that the audience couldn't hear but it didn't feel real like the book. New Moon was my least favorite of all the books but i feel like it deserved more. i read that book with fury and heartache, something the movied didn't provoke in me.That being said i don't think this is Chris' fault.I think he did a great job with what he had to work with i thought the visuals were stunning, great job Chris Weitz. The Edward dialog missing from the Bella Edward reunion was heartbreaking. Some of the best lines come from those two scenes (volterra and back in forks when she wakes up)and what happened to Bella and Alices conversation on the plane? i'm blending my books now- did the scene where Jacob brings the motorcycle to Charlie happen in New Moon. i love that scene when Charlie is yelling from the house. All in all it was good but still missing something. i will go see it again without the long waited excitement blinding me....

I agree, also. The problem in the two movies is that is and always has been a beautiful love story. When you cut a lot of that dialogue you remove the very essense of the novels.
If you base the directing around the the love story,I feel everything would fall into place.Jacob's character is well defined because it is based on reaction to Bella's falling in love with a vampire and the dangers that it brings to her and the community. His phasing along with her heartbreak and his inability to change her mind also adds enough tension to make him a very exciting character.
Edward is left out in the cold cinematography speaking. He's weak when he meets the Voltaire shaken by what he thinKs is Bella's demise. What should have been one of the most electrifying scenes--Bella and Edward together---their holding, touching and communication before and after the Voltaire left me a feeling a little cold and a lot cheated.
   Love story first---special effects second!!!

I agree with everything you say, the only thing that I'd like to point put is that on the scene where Alice shows Aro about Bella being transformed, I agree that the clothes are nothing like what the characters wear, however as soon as I saw that I couldn't help but think in Breaking Dawn when Edward asks Bella to go hunting with him and she's wearing a dress that Alice got her (on her huge closet in the cottage) so I immediately thought that's how it's gonna look on breaking dawn b/c at that moment she was wearing that dress, however yeah I don't picture edward wearing those clothes and not even to talk about Alice's!. Overall I think it was awesome
